  1. Are you referring to a college population? My dd was informed by a very big/shiny envelope (acceptance letter) that she was in the top 1.5% of admitted freshmen along with a nice scholarship.
  2. Yep, with four AP classes, CC Econ class, leadership duties, and senior project, time cannot be had! We are in the big fish-med sized fish decision. With a top ten university versus a number 40ish I feel like both are great options. Dd keeps vacillating. I once had a nifty, objective way of finding the best fit college. It had 8-10 factors and each factor was given a numerical value based on your "the students" opinion. Then you would add up the columns and the one with the highest number was the winner (flawed yes as each objective carried the same weight). But it was something and I cannot find it!
  3. Finally over with. Now to concentrate on school and graduation:) Accepted: TULANE-presidential honors 32,000 x 4 but with tulane at 68k per yr this isn't happening UCLA,UCSD,UC DAVIS, and Uc Santa Barbara REGENTS SCHOLAR W honors and scholar housing UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND-presidential scholar 28k/year ASU- presidential scholar w merit (forgot how much) UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO- waitlisted:( STANFORD-rejected. Will now have to work out the finances, but unless university of chicago admits her, UCLA is most likely going to be it. Now I'm settling into the fact that college is a few months away. (Not) can't help but catch myself daydreaming about earlier years gone too fast. Congrats to all!!!
  4. I really hear you struggling and initially I thought this could be your DH. Now I see the pronoun "she". Haven't read all the responses but keep your opinions, character, and essence true to your heart. Maybe not share as much w this person? Not everyone is compatible but again, I only see a real problem if this was to be your DH.
  5. Quick reply here... Defense language school (DoD) in Monterey, ca (post naval academy) My BIL went there. Yep, it's west coast but it's phenomenal.
  6. Tulane. It's a full ride plus monies to study abroad, attend seminars, or other "intellectual" expenses. It is really a long shot (lottery) but she's in the running! I've not met one student who has won. Tulane has other full rides and she has made the first round of cuts. I promise to let you all know how this ends...say a prayer...she's so deservingâ¤ï¸
  7. Dd had a telephone interview last week. To get this would be nothing short of amazing. Anyone else?
  8. We will be completing the CSS this weekend. Not looking forward to Saturday.
  9. Rosie, I'll never forget Marek's day. Hugs my dear
  10. Sounds like you all did thd right thing. And I'm sorry. Horrible, horrible experiences! The next step is the leave the school. Write a letter explaining the situation and your decision and send it to the superintendent. If you want to take it further, speaking g at the next board meeting during open discussion may be worthy
  11. Yummy^^^^^^^ This will be on our Christmas Eve menuðŸ‘
  12. Katilac No to loyola. Not that we didn't consider, but she is still waiting RD for 5, and will apply to 4 others within the next two weeks. I think that is enough! Tulane really looks great. Most likely Biochem but tropical medicine and infectious diseases sound intriguing. She IS NOT the party girl, though.
  13. That's battery and punishable by law. And posting the event will add charges. I'm serious. Don't let them get away with it because you're perpetuating it.
  14. Northern calif. Planning on attending the scholars weekend. How do you like NOLA?
  15. Dd use JHU Center for talented youth for MVC 11th grade. She had a total of nine classes (never again) but got through it successfully. JHU uses MIT online lectures...pretty good but chose not to go that route this yr. the local CC doesn't have linear eq. So she is taking AP STATS. She is missing calc to say the least. She is truly excited to continue w higher math in college and to have a real professor!
  16. He should be able to handle independent study a few hours every morning. You can keep your job and be home for lunch. I work 28 h per week and my 11 and 13 yr old handle those days just fine. I would immediately pull him out.
  17. Dd 4/4!! For all EA Presidential scholarship from Tulane 32,000 per yr. Tulane is one of her top choices. Waiting patiently for further scholarships...which potentially add up to a full ride. So happy here! and I must agree w Maria, these boards, along with first ed. of WTM have influenced me beyond any other aspects of homeschooling. Good luck to all
  18. Creekland I would love my Dd to marry a young man just like your son:)
  19. Wholey **ap! The university president needs to be indicted for failure to report a crime. The attorney general must take this case over. This is sickening.
  20. Add to all the logistics, a well crafted, entertaining, unique essay (or two) to each school. Some may have help I dare say. It takes time to do this well! Dd is applying to 12. Received her first except acceptance last week. Honors invite as well so we are happy!
  21. We bring our own cots! They fold up nicely and are very sturdy. In nicer hotels, we always get adjoining rooms.
  22. Severe pain? Go to the ER for an injection. Get him some relief (temporarily yes) and call the orthopedist in the am.
  23. We have netflix and watch 2 movies per week. If it's soccer or baseball season, yes, we watch tv but we have no clue as to what is on regular TV. And must admit, proud of it!
  24. Dd's EA safeties went out this am yahoo! Next EA is due mid-November and it'll be a mid-reach school. University of Calif app's are now open for this month and are half completed. Good luck to all and I am just so excited I can hardly stand it!
  25. My very good friend is contemplating the same. But, she feels emotionally abandoned. He will mumble a good morning and then off to work. Once home, he is irritable and the home has a black cloud over it when he is there (that's my interpretation when I visit or help her out w the kids). He says "I'm fine" when asked if something is wrong. I feel for you and my friend. Advice above is great...but the issues of loneliness and abandonment are really difficult to live with. Gosh, a timeline for improvement, would that help or hurt?
