  1. :grouphug: I'm sorry. I'll keep your family in my prayers.
  2. I hope everything is ok, Scrapbook! I have two things on my agenda today. Watch the last two video tapes (yes, VHS tapes--they were cheap) of TWSS and finish the book I'm reading.
  3. Do you have a Marco's where you live? I find it to be reasonably priced and DH and I do half meat lovers and half supreme.
  4. I like "supreme" pizza, deep dish or regular (although now I have to have gf :crying:) and I must have a coke with it!!!
  5. Private Peaceful--I just bought it and haven't read it but it did get good reviews on Amazon.
  6. Basically, in order to save the tooth, they need to remove the nerve because likely it's going to die and can cause an infection. With the nerve out, there is little risk of that happening. Are they planning on a crown in the future? Normally after a root canal, they will place a crown. I would ask about that.
  7. I prefer a vanity for the storage. I see a lot of vanities being done in the decorating blogs and magazines I read.
  8. Happy 4th!!!! I had planned on it being restful but was woken up around 7am to construction workers banging next door! Is it just me or is that inconsiderate to do on a holiday? So much for sleeping in!! We will go see the fireworks later this evening. We found a spot where we usually park that is not in the actual place but we don't have to deal with the crowds. I actually don't even feel like going but we should for the kids. Growing up I guess we did different things, if anything at all. I remember one year my step dad lit off fireworks (just the small ones) in the backyard.
  9. I'm the same with peaches and apricots. It's the one sensory thing I can't stand!
  10. That German curriculum looks interesting, especially since it goes beyond German 2. I haven't seen that anywhere. Thank you for your feedback!
  11. I know! Everyone seems to love Dr. Pepper and I'm not picky at all but it's just too much, too many flavors--not good!
  12. Ok, son is in 8th grade. Should we wait until high school to do official classes so they can go on the transcript and just keep going with our light home studies for a while. He is learning German on his own (I'm no help in this area) through Duolingo and some cd's I checked out at the library but he hasn't gotten very far although he worked on it a little each day last year. Should we just keep doing what we are doing and wait until 9th to start an online class, doing online German 1 in 9th, online German 2 in 10th and then do dual enrollment for German at the college level? Or something else??? Wait until 11th and 12th to outsource German?
  13. I like almost anything except uncooked meats (sushi) and Dr. Pepper. Deer is kind of big here and I don't like that either.
  14. I'm so sorry. You and your son will be in my prayers for sure.
  15. This was me as well, hence the reason I've always been protective of my kids. Even so, they have eased into independence and are functioning just fine. My 18 year old is living at home, will be attending college and really has his own life separate from the family. There isn't this magic age that you have to let them do something by or it will never happen. A friend of mine, who is way more free range, was talking about leaving her kids overnight and she said, "You have to let them do it sometime." Sure, but that doesn't have to be a specific age or it's never going to happen.
  16. I learned about these from my New York friend not too long ago. They are so good!
  17. Ages 13 and 16 but both kids are on the same level with youngest being more advanced.
  18. I am looking for some short term courses to mix in with what we will be doing for writing next year. I haven't yet decided for sure what we will be doing but I'd like some outside input and some variety in the school year. Last year we did Jump In so perhaps we'll doThe Power in Your Hands. I could go in a different direction altogether. Tomorrow I am going to start watching the IEW videos I purchased to see what that's all about. I hear so many good things about Bravewriter classes but they are really pricey for such a short amount of time. It's not out of the question if it was really worth it. Has anyone used Time4Learning? What else is there?
  19. Some of the best teachers my son had in middle and high school were male teachers. There were some good female teachers too but almost all the male teachers he had were stand outs. My son and his friends used to spend their lunch period in the classroom of one of his male teachers--they liked him that much. Two of his math teachers were male and I think they were instrumental in inspiring my son to go as far as he did. I'm really thankful that he could have those role models in his life, and I think it would be great to have more men teaching.
  20. We've been busy with company but I'm just popping in to say hi to everyone!
  21. Do you have a True Value Hardware by you? I was able to get a key made from my existing key fob for only $40. They were able to cut and program it. The only negative is that it will just start the car, not open the doors, but for a spare it is fine.
  22. This week is half days for us, mainly to finish up their math books and I will be cleaning and getting ready for a house full of out of town guests so once I get over that hurdle.....I can start to decompress, get rested up and hopefully come back strong for next school year. I've struggled with sleep issues as well. My kids never did swim team.
  23. Interesting timing but DH just got home and told me that my mom and niece were at Disney today (he talks to my mom's DH all the time so he hears things before me) and my mom passed out from the heat while waiting for two hours in line! She's ok--I just thought it was interesting timing with this thread.
  24. We aren't into Disney. I grew up in Orlando and family lives there so we go to Orlando once or twice a year. The kids never mention it although we've taken them a couple times. I'd take them if they wanted to go but they'd rather fish (which is so much cheaper). I'd rather be in the a/c away from crowds. When I think of Disney, I think of sweltering heat and crowds. Perhaps going a different time of year would have made it more enjoyable but we were on the public school schedule so we'd always go in the summer. My mom and sisters have season passes to Epcot and that seems like fun.
  25. Yes to new beginnings! Summer vacation (we were ready for that months ago)! Oldest is graduating and starting college! We were seriously considering moving but now with DS living at home and his college being so close to us, we just don't think it's the right time, even though we really want to. So we are staying put for a while.
