  1. Thank you everyone for the kind words. I will update when I know anything, but I think it went well.
  2. Yes I did. It is double knitting, the reverse is grey with blue numbers, but the numbers are mirrored, so not really readable. It is the second time I have done double knotting, but the other was a coaster, not a 51/2 foot long scarf. It took me about 8 months and so many restarts,
  3. I hope you don't mind if I share something I finished in August. I made it for my daughter who just got her math degree in May and then moved across the country. I call it the not pi scarf because she said all math majors get items with pi.
  4. My last interview was in 1980. Yes, I am old. It is for a two day a week tutor position at the local high school.
  5. Congratulations! How exciting -- baby and house.
  6. We got angel wind chimes when my son passed away. The sound of the wind chimes is comforting.
  7. Chocolate croissants. In Texas, in July. Never again. The butter would not stay firm enough to work with. But they were amazing!
  8. I don't know anything about the AP exams, but I really think that kids understand the math better without using a graphing calculator. We never used one here. Used Saxon through Calculus. And I have one math major and one EE major. Only the EE major ever used a graphing calculator, in his senior level EE classes. So I would say if Saxon is working for your child, then stick with it.
  9. Do you just mean a scientific calculator or a graphing calculator? And what testing are you talking about?
  10. Ok, so they are saying that the square root must be nonnegative. With that, there are no solutions. But as he goes further in math, square root does not always mean non negative, as shown in my previous answer. With their definition, there are no solutions.
  11. Actually, the square root is both positive and negative. Basically (3)(3)=9 and (-3)(-3) =9. Thus the square root of 9 is +/- 3. Most of the time you are looking for the positive square root. But both exist. Imaginary numbers come in when taking the square root of a negative number. I did what the solution manual said. square root (z+1) = -3 So z+1 =9 Then z=8. Putting that back in the original equation, you have 6 - square root(9) =9, which works when you use the -3 answer. But most would not think of the negative square root in this case. So in actuality, there is no answer for most real life applications, only in the thinking about math way. 😉 Hope this makes sense.
  12. Agree with Ellie. All 4 of mine did Saxon. Take the placement test. And some of mine weren't math-y. The least matth-y ended up doing computer science for a career. And the one that hated math the most as a 7th grader ended up majoring in math. Saxon is a solid program.
  13. So I just got some more details from my daughter. She just qualified to remain in the apartment by herself. She could have put someone else on the lease before the end of the month, but not after. She can have a roommate, but the agreement would be between her and the roommate; the person would not be on the lease. The other girl is paying my daughter for breaking the lease, which will basically come out to about 6 months of her half of the rent. Thank you all for your answers and concern. This has been hard. I shared your answers with my daughter who was feeling guilty that she had done something wrong. She feels much better that it is nothing she had done.
  14. I understand mental health is expensive. But the treatments and tests my daughter needs are too. And she has been in this area for all of 2 months now, most of it getting moved into an apartment, buying a car, and calling doctors for these expensive tests. Her stomach condition causes severe pain about 20 hours a day and limits what and how much she can eat. This stress to her is not helping.
  15. Only if she can find one by the 26th of this month. She is trying, but since this was dumped on her 7 days ago, it is hard.
  16. If the law say it this way and if the other family was not just walking away I would not be angry.
  17. I agree that this is true, but this girl works where my daughter works. And she is on her mom's insurance (who happens to be pretty high up at the same place) She can afford the rent. And my daughter is paying for two specialists and several expensive tests and her own insurance. Her parents are not buying out the lease. They literally live 15 minutes away.
  18. Thank you. This is why I am angry. The roommate is allowed to walk away and my daughter is responsible for the rest. And according to the family she really isn't being understanding. But I now understand that yes it could actually be a real problem, and not just she wants to run home and not adult. Life is not fair but this is awful.
  19. She has asked the girl if she would at least pay a quarter of the rent for the remainder of the lease. The answer was no. She cannot afford it? She is making as much as my daughter and now living at home and cannot afford what she agreed to initially?
  20. Because she cannot sublet this apartment. She either is on the hook for the 11 months or breaks lease and moves. And the other girl is not contributing anything. The roommate is on the lease.
  21. No this is not a college situation. These girls have just graduated from college. I am angry because my daughter has 2 weeks either to find a new place to live or find a new roommate. This is a very expensive area near the capital. It is a government job. And my daughter has a medical condition we are trying to determine what is happening and she has several expensive tests scheduled over the next couple of months. On top of that the stress is making the problems worse and she is now in constant stomach pain from it. And we are a 24 hour drive away. But I do understand some better. But really having to pick up double rent for 11 months is horrible.
  22. I am so angry and confused right now. My daughter's roommate is moving out, after a week? And they claim she is having a mental health crisis. Now she continues to work and go out with friends. But she cannot live in an apartment with a roommate that is literally 15 minutes from her parents? She has to be at her parents house? Does this make sense to anyone?
  23. And look at Lockhart, Texas if you want BBQ. It is fairly close to Austin. Also they have a little known clock museum that is absolutely fascinating! We lucked onto it when spent a weekend in Austin a few years ago and wanted to get away from the crowds so went to Lockhart. Just another idea.
  24. The roommate is on the lease. I am certain this will work out. Right now the offer on the table is for roommate to pay half of her part for the remaining 11 months. It is just that she knows no one in the area yet and with all the medical stuff going on it is hard to do much else. She met this girl when they were interns here last summer. It seemed like a perfect situation. And now it isn't.
