  1. What did you end up having? Had an ultrasound for baby #4. I have 3 boys, so we definitely want to know if we need to go shopping or not. BUT of course due to bad some bad positioning, little hands blocking and closed legs... We couldn't see a thing. The tech said the baby could be a girl, but she wasn't willing to go out on a limb. Which leads me to the poll questions....if they couldn't determine gender at your anatomical scan, what did you end up having? We are thinking about a gender determination at a 3D Clinic... we can't handle the suspense. :)
  2. I second The Man Who Knew Infinity! So good! Made me think about math in a whole new way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. ...Where you can actual taste the cinnamon flavour. I've tried The Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Swirl Bread, but I couldn't taste the cinnamon. Anyone know a good recipe? Or should I just knead some cinnamon into the dough before I roll it to make the swirls?! Any advice appreciated.... This pregnant mama needs cinnamon bread, pronto! 6. No need for foreign language tv. ALL TV can (and does in our house) have closed captioning. I read in the Read Aloud Handbook that they made it a law in Denmark that all television must be captioned. They did it to increase literacy. My 6 year old is advanced too. Getting him to want to read was HARD. I finally gave him the option to stay up and read in his bed. We have a 7pm bed time, and he is usually is still up at 830. I'm telling you, it's magic! Wish I would have thought of it before. We even bought him a cute avenger flashlight. BUT you need books and lots of them. And different kinds. Lots of picture books, magic tree house, comics (he is liking Big Nate right now), etc. My library haul is ridiculous and embarrassing. All in the name of reading! I can barely get him to read a lick all day, but I don't let it bother me now that he reads so much at night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I only read up to post #50, so I am not sure if this has been mentioned in the subsequent posts. You mentioned that dating and getting involved emotionally at this age is not something you do in your family, or rather you'd prefer them to wait until they were older to become involved in relationships. I am wondering what Dss' other parent and how they raised him. How involved was Dh before he came to live with you? I ask this only because a 'value' such as this is not something that can be instituted once he comes to live at your house. This are things you teach and talk about with children from a young age. If he is just coming to live you with and this "value" is pushed on him it only becomes a rule, and legalistic. It may not have been an idea he has grown up with and taught to value and understand its merits. If he has seen others dating as teens (whether siblings, friends, television, movies) it may have become an expectation, too. I don't know if I am making sense. I am coming from a place of inexperience. I have children that I desire to raise to not become involved in the same way. My teenage years was riddled with relationships I would have rather not experienced or and should have been guided and counseled with wisdom from a parent. I feel if he has not grown up around this sort of thing his whole life it might be too late. As others have said controlling will just push them away to act in secret. Best to have unlimited text contact that can be viewed by both parents than controlled contact that pushes them to hide it. I liked the post above that mentioned allowed group dates until a certain age, too. I grew up in the days of MSN messenger and ICQ chatting. I am sure I would easily have made up those 300 messages with my bf's during that time on some days. I agree also with the others to treat school as a different problem altogether. ETA: I really like Bambam's post!
  8. After my last pregnancy, I did my own version of whole 30. Followed most things except used regular butter, not clarified. And had a little dairy. Just ate mostly veggies with proteins. No grains, sauces with sugars, etc. If your only looking for weight loss,it definitely works. But you don't get any other benefits to whole 30. Like I said it's not a real whole 30. I dropped the weight I needed and that was good enough for me. Still expensive though, as carbs are the cheap fillers for most meals. Veggies do add up. While I ate less meat per meal, I ate meat (or protein like eggs) more often. So that is $. Listening in for other responses! Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  9. I wonder if there is a difference between being in a coma and having to use a ventilator versus being in a coma and breathing on one's own. I would think that those who make a full recovery after such a long time in a coma may have been breathing on their own. Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk

  11. Please!!! A PSA to all who read this!!! We had our windows smashed in SA, Texas. They took whatever they could grab... Camera bag with our digital photography camera and video camera (which had a 80Gb hard disc, we had never be scored up our videos since 2009, including our wedding and birth videos ), a suitcase of my clothes, and suitcase of baby clothes. We were traveling for 6 months and really didn't want to lug up the entire contents of our car. Lesson learned. I suffered so you don't have to. [emoji12] Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  12. I haven't read it, but I'm assuming a man who doesn't want to grow up? [emoji12] Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  13. I agree with some others up thread. You probably just don't remember. My mother tells us how we were wonderful children and never gave her problems. My dad gives us the real story. Even from what I remember from childhood... My brother and I fought all the time. I talked back. I ran away (twice), looking for kid to pay with and wasn't found for hours until the neighborhood went looking for me. She has rosy memories to say the least, lol. Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk

  15. Oh, I can't remember the name now.... But there is some subscription/club that you can join where organic farms host people. There are some listed who are welcoming to families. If I remember correctly, they feed you as well. Could be fun, especially if they have a lot of animals to take care of. I tried to Google it, but it seems there are a lot of these sorts of organizations. Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  16. Red raspberry leaf tea! Yes! Went from 8-12 got labors to 3 hours! That stuff works... :) Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  17. I'm not there yet, my oldest DS is only on WWE1. I was contemplating next year going without the work book and choosing our own literature. My only worry is that I may not choose work that is increasing in difficulty. Since you worry that WWE4 would be too difficult, why not spend half a year (or more, or less if he improves) just choosing similar length exercises to WWE3 from his literature, history, science? Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk ETA: also, thanks for sharing! I worry about dictations, as my DS can barely keep his one sentence narrations in his head long enough to repeat them. Baby steps!
  18. $901 per person? How much were they paying before. Yikes! What a smart idea though! Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
  19. +1 to the Juliette Marillier suggestion. Loved her books. I'd start with the seven waters trilogy or wolf skin. I think I might take a re-read through those. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed that author. Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk ETA: Goodreads.com is also quite helpful in finding new books based on past reads. ETA: Typos!
  20. My oldest is 6 and he doesn't do any chores beyond making his bed. I need to start... Great ideas here. Thanks! Sent from my U9200 using Tapatalk
