  1. Our colleges also consider the Art History to be a fine art. Social sciences you might not think of- Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Media Studies, Mass Communication, Geography, Philosophy, Ethics....
  2. If your kid is smart and has been doing extra coding stuff, the first few classes are probably going to be review. Mine is finishing a MIS masters degree, with lots of cyber security classes. It's from the business school because she liked it better than the Engineering college. We looked at both programs, class requirements, co-ops and internships, and she picked MIS over CS. She has a really great advisor and at one point, when she was feeling much the same as your son, he explained that professors have to structure classes so that most of the class can do well. Mine learns so quickly and gets bored, but most students need more to master a topic or come in without that same base knowledge. Unfortunately they don't test out, so she has to take the classes anyway. You might explain this to your son- these classes are to give everyone an opportunity to have a solid foundation to build on. He has already been working on his, but others need more time. DD has went to the job fair every year and this year is different. Not as many companies even showed up, and not as many kids getting offers. Mine is probably #2 in her class, but hasn't even gotten an interview with the companies she wants. Thankfully she did an internship last summer and they have kept her on PT from home, so she does have a job lined up- it's just not the one she wants. All that to say that right now probably isn't the best time to be looking for a job in IT, especially without a degree at all. I would encourage him to branch out and explore some other types of classes to give him a challenge right now. It's okay if these beginning classes are easy!
  3. Ugh! I'm upset. I got an IUD about 3 weeks ago and justcfeel bloated. I've gained 2-3lbs- all in my tummy. It's just bloat. I've noticed my ankles swelling a but, too. As for my exercise- I do need to walk more. I've been getting 5-6K just doing regular stuff. I got 2 or 3 longer walks this week, but I'm just busy! Goals For This Week 1. Watch sodium intake, try to eat more fresh foods 2. Try to get in a daily walk 3. 10K steps at least 5 days this week. My week is crazy. I only have one day this week at home. I'm trying to teach in the mornings, then appointments in the afternoons.
  4. Does she enjoy the classes? Is it possible to take her out of only some of the classes and do those at home?
  5. My local CC offers CAD classes and I have looked into them for my boys who are interested in Engineering. I would consider them electives that show an interest if design and function. They don't really count for credits at the closest Engineering school.
  6. I promise you that waiting until.high school will not hurt them at all! I think its much better for them to physically write than to type in the early years. I start instruction in middle school- once hands are full-size.
  7. I'm a very bad 1st Grade mom. I have been so busy with Dr appts and big kids, my little just gets to read stories and play games. We are almost half-way through AAR2. I want to just pause here and bit and work on fluency.
  8. Hugs! My DD is in IT and hasn't gotten an interview with her top choice. The whole sector is down and several companies didn't even come to the Career Fair. I'm just here as a sounding board and moral support. It's hard! Her internship last summer has lead to PT work with a promise of an offer at graduation, but she says it's not the type of job she wants, so she's trying to get on at other places. No dice- not even an interview- crickets. I have my fingers crossed she gets on with her top choice, but it's hard to explain business cycles to a young adult. Lots of times you don't get the job you want. You get a boring job and keep looking. I thought Accounting was supposed to be in high demand. Advice I've heard is to consider smaller towns, smaller firms, and be flexible.
  9. I'm joining this month! I really need some accountability, and hoping life has slowed enough that I can get time in for myself.
  10. I'm sorry, elder care is so hard! Will waiting a few weeks until DH has things ironed out hurt her? If not, I would let her know that DH was the priority patient right now, and you just cannot do Dr's for both of them. Mils can be postponed a month or two. Where I live there are companies that take patients to their appointments- look into that for MIL. I know that through history elder care has often been a burden on families, but with our current medical abilities, people are living much longer and needing a LOT more support for much longer. ❤️ Its okay to outsource this when you need to. Do not feel guilty for taking care of your DH and son.
  11. I am right there with you! DD is doing job interviews and her boyfriend co-op interviews. They hope they end up close to each other. Praying your son and future DiL get a great placement!
  12. You know my bedbug horror story ;) I'd be *really* mad and she would be grounded for not listening to me. A teenager just doesn't comprehend that this could literally be thousands of dollars to get rid of them abd replace infested items. I had a friend who got them last year and called for advice. I told her to burn her fabric headboard. Took her about a month of treatments and bites, but she did burn the headboard! She tried all the sprays, steaming, but they were in the upholstery!
  13. I've had 2 that needed expanders right before braces, so not 2-phase. Their mouths are still pretty crowded and I've never questioned whether they were unnecessary. They've been in braces for 3 years! Still working on getting them straight- their teeth were so crowded, we had to put spacers in to make room for teeth to come down, teeth coming out the roof of the mouth (and we were glad, because we had oral surgery booked to get them exposed). My DH did not get an expander and ended up having to pull several adult teeth and his are all very crowded. I really trust my orthodontist, though. I've been going to him for 12+ years. My oldest had an issue that required consultation with an Ortho as soon as her adult teeth came in. He was always prescribing minimal treatment.
  14. For the math struggles, try ASU-Universal Learner College Algebra. It's only $25 to Start. If she gets s good grade, pay $400 to put on her college transcript! If it's not so good, it just goes away.
  15. Exactly what I said to my DH earlier. This wasn't something to be proud of- it's an embarrassment that we have so many elderly people in our government.
  16. I have 2 in college right now. Kid 1- full tuition and room scholarship Kid 2- most of tuition is covered. Room and required meal plan is over 5K a semester and it's crappy food! I figured up the cost per day- around $25 for food. It's fast food/ cafeteria quality and my kid hates it
  17. So happy for you and your family. Thos is an experience that is life-chsnging for all of you.
  18. Do you have a suggestion for a mouth guard? I have known I had issues the last few years. Chipped a molar in the spring, and now I'm having issues with my gums being sore. My dentist suggests a mouth guard to help with the mouth issues. Do you have any that you recommend? Or any other treatment options? From what I can tell, the real root of my problem is back pain. When it's flaring, my teeth grind more. My back has been worse the last few weeks. I never realized the two were related, but it makes sense. I do anti-inflammatories and stretches for that, but it's a chronic problem that will never go completely away.
  19. If you turn the carport into a master with bath and a huge walk-in closet you can put both babies in the closet for several years. It will also be good for resale value because a lot of people want a huge master closet 😉 The old master can be separated with room dividers, not a wall, but still private space for each kid. There are lots of ways to do this- bookcases, partial wall, pretty hinged pannels.
  20. I'd box in the garage/ carport and make a space for the older 2 girls bedroom and all kids lounging space. I keep my babies in bedroom for at least a year, so no hurry.
  21. I would ask that they not smoke, as I am allergic. I have such a strong sense of smell it makes me sick.
  22. I have no idea, but mine are signed up for a school we don't even live on then district for.
  23. Hugs! I've got 6 kids, too, and have felt this way often over the last 5 years or so. I've thought it was having so many kids in every stage of childhood and constantly switching my parenting methods between those ages. I feel like a Yo-yo. My mind constantly switches from teen parenting to toddler parenting, then to grade school parenting. It's exhausting. I've currently got college, high school, middle school, and elementary- and I am still a yo-yo. I don't have any good advice, but know that I'm right there with you!
  24. I had some issues a year or so ago. I ended up going to the DE coordinator with a list of the issues, dates DD contacted them, their responses, etc.
  25. It depends on your goals. It is communication, but I have had mine still take 4 English credits as well as speech at the college.
