  1. I have not posted here in forever and thought this would be a long shot....

My daughter's ballet studio is needing to build the growing Christmas tree for their Nutcracker. This is not painted on canvas but an actual tree shape. Are there any ballet moms out there that know where I can find plans to construct such a thing. I have googled and found nothing.

    Thanks!

  2. Yeah, crap happened in our house, too. I was thinking more along the line of, when crap has not happened, that there is a disconnect in who wants what and why.

Or, when [insert situation] does happen, why one person would be "shouldered" with burden/guilt/ whatever.

I guess I'm having trouble not seeing a married couple as having equal input into something as important as making another human being.

You can both have equal input. Take all the necessary precautions, and still make another human being. That's how I ended up with 11 yr old ds.

Life happens, circumstances change, people change. That will have a rather large influence on the views of each party involved.

  3. Considering breaking up our trip. We've never been to and would like to experience NC a bit more than driving through the state (via 81). Any suggestions? Our destination is in SC, would it be worth taking a day to see Savannah? What are some must sees in SC that elementary age kids would also enjoy?

We'll leave 81 in VA and pick up 77 to go into NC, then 26 in SC. Thankfully we have a GPS - LOL!

There's Ft. Sumter, the USS Yorktown, aquarium, Magnolia Garden, Cypress Swamps, Charlestown Landing, the beach. There's plenty around Charleston for kids.

As for driving through NC, there are a lot NASCAR grarages in Mooresville, if you want to get off 77 take 85 N, there Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Concord Mills (huge outlet mall), and IKEA. On 77, in town there's Discovery Place, also BofA Stadium, and the Bobctas Arena- both offer tours if your into the sports thing. There's historic Bratonsville in SC before you get to Columbia. There isn't a whole lot to see in downtown Charlotte except lots of cars, and a few tall buildings.

  4. There are a lot of homeschoolers here and some good support groups. There are also a lot of private schools and christian schools. In my neighborhood the boys my sons play with all go to different schools and my kids don't feel that different.

There laws are easy but there is no money and no access to school extra curricular activities here.

Covenant Classical in Concord allows/did allow homeschoolers to participate on sports teams while we were there.

  5. A friend recently confided that her daughter has dyscalculia and described some of their struggles with math over the years. I get the impression they've tried all the standard math. Any ideas for a math program either especially for dyscalculia or one that you or someone you know has had good success with?

They are such sweet ppl, I hope someone can help!

    God Bless!

It seems that dyscalculia is like math dyslexia, if that helps.

We switched this year to Math U See. My daughter will be 8 and has struggled with patterns, place value and basic facts. MUS has been a tremendous help with the visual and hands on approach. She now has something concrete to equate numbers and operations with.

We came to the conclusion that she had math related issues due to the fact that she struggles greatly with patterns. Basic repeating patterns, skip counting, time, and money. Anything that had a sequential pattern. And her basic math fact retention is slim to none. She is finally beginning to understand place value. MUS has worked wonders for her.

  6. Has anyone ever put together the Rainbow Science lab kit themselves? I ordered this from the author in May at my homeschool bookfair. I was under the impression that it would take a couple of weeks to get to me. It has been a month, and I don't think I am going to get it anytime soon. This is very frustrating.

Is there somewhere else I can purchase the kit? Where is the best place to buy the supplies online? I'm really not looking forward to putting this kit together myself. :001_unsure:

They aren't shipping until August, reprinting the text.

We are in the process of reprinting several of our books! As a result, we are accepting orders for, but will not be shipping, The Rainbow until August 1. We will be working this summer to prepare for a mass shipment at that time. We will, however, be fulfilling orders for Bridge Math and The Spectrum Chemistry during this time. Thank you!
