  1. Hopefully my experience will be an encouragement. Both my kids grew out of holding onto everything by approx. age 8. At 5, the stuff-keeping was esp. bad. In addition to the good advice you're receiving, continue to foster a clutter-free family culture, continue to encourage tidiness but know that developmentally it might not 'click' for a couple years. hth
  2. Someone sent me a sympathy card care of the funeral home. I think if the obituary lists a funeral home or church you could send a card there.
  3. :iagree: with the bolded with these additions: because this is ultimately a gift for the daughter, I think you should put together a one-time $150 package that you are comfortable providing, perhaps including a print for the daughter and for her mom. Then, moving forward, if this friend (or any friend) wants a session in the future be sure to get everything agreed to up front. It's okay to not give away your services. It might even be worth deciding on a kind but firm way to phrase this ahead of time for any future dealings with friends.
  4. I'm a leftie and I cross 'f' and 't' from left to right. I don't remember learning this, it just feels natural to me. I have been told that I make other letters 'backwards', they don't look reversed but I guess the way I make the letter is backwards to what righties do, kwim? In school, as a leftie, I was just left to my own devices to adjust so I think I just did what felt 'right' to me. My thoughts on handwriting are that we use a standard system so that we can communicate and that the 'proper' method helps with clarity, speed and less fatigue. My backward letters don't slow me down, tire my hand or reduce clarity so I don't see the need to change. If they were a problem I would try to change. If crossing letters right to left is slowing your leftie down or making the letters hard to read it might be worth trying the other way, however if it's not a problem I wouldn't bother, imho. hth
  5. Do you live in an area with county or state forest preserves? There should be a dept. of natural resources or something like that. There should be some sort of wildlife rehab place, esp. for a large bird.
  6. Classical Comics has graphic novels of many plays. They are available with original text, plain text and quick text. If you ever order a copy or look at the library be careful to get the edition you want. We've liked the original text editions we've read. Here's an example that you can click to see inside: http://www.amazon.com/Tempest-Graphic-American-English-Original/dp/190633269X/ref=pd_sim_b_3 This is the link to Classical Comics: http://www.classicalcomics.com/books/macbeth.html hth
  7. I love this book! I was so excited to finally know the answer to a 'help me find the title of this book' post! This was the first book in my life that I couldn't put down. I remember staying up late reading it.
  8. Some places that give tours to school groups will let a family join in with another group. Also, don't be afraid to ask about being a 'field trip' with just your family.
  9. I've been missing the Christmas lights and wish we hadn't hurried to take them down. We thought we were taking advantage of what would be the only mild day this winter...little did we know we'd have plenty of mild weather. Bummer. This year, after we took down our real tree with put it up in the backyard (no decorations). It's still green and looks so cheerful. When we get a bit of snow it looks so pretty. I love Christmas.
  10. We live in an area with a daytime curfew, so my dc don't go out alone during school hours. I had always assumed it was the same everywhere. Guess not! Even with the curfew, our police would not respond to a call about some kids out to lunch with their mom! Why are people so crabby?
  11. If we invite, we pay. If for some reason we can't pay we say that up front.
