  1. I always search and buy second handed books at www.alibris.com Their shippings are pretty cheap for me as buyer in Europe.
  2. I think 8fillstheheart knows that. We have an 'all years in one volume' type of grammar and a dito vocabulary. Dd learns french in a unusual way, as she did for English. Unfortunetely I can't rely on a curriculum for her...
  3. I agree, dd didn't make much progress in French for years. This year I made the requirement to read French, every day. She made a huge improvement in her output, and will attend the 8th grade exam in september after she did extremely well at a practice exam at home last month.
  4. We decided to switch. We did some Breaking the Barrier, some oral verb drill, And now we use some French for French speaking people. We finished A Mots Contes last year and started this week Terre des Lettres as summerreading and will use Jardin des lettres next year. And a Dutch syllabus 'how to write in French'. For examprep we use 'Exercise pour le CERF' from Cle International
  5. That would be interesting too! I'm not in need for AP / SAT prep material as we will attend the Belgian exams, but AP level courses can be very helpfull especially for French and German :)
  6. French books, with an exam in september she has to keep her french up-to-date
  7. I'm reading the discovery of France: http://www.amazon.com/Discovery-France-Historical-Geography/dp/0393333647/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435509770&sr=8-1&keywords=Graham+robb (In Dutch) I totally love this book. Did you guys know that 'French' original was the language in and around Paris? And that only since Napoleon such a thing like France is created? So many history facts I learned got a different perspective through this book. I like that :) Meanwhile reading a book for dd's readinglist about slavery.
  8. Weeding and picking yellow leaves in the greenhouses.
  9. Still one more week of lessons.... And still waiting for the exam result: I just can't send in my educational plans for next year, if I don't know she has failed or passed eight grade math...
  10. I did in K-3 Social Studies, in 4-6 two hours of history AND two hours of Geography per week. As far as I can see now I will continue that to the end. It is how I grew up.
  11. I finished: http://www.amazon.com/Shadow-Ark-Anne-Provoost-ebook/dp/B005ES454A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435054210&sr=8-1&keywords=Anne+provoost This week. i will put it on dd's readinglist next year. And I read 'Red snow in december': http://www.amazon.com/sneeuw-december-Dutch-Simone-vlugt-ebook/dp/B00O10Z67M/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1435054334&sr=8-28&keywords=Simone+van+de+vlugt Also for dd's booklist next year. The Dutch list is done, now for French, German and English...
  12. So far we use IEW and I plan to use Bravewriter next year. But we I think we will keep using some of the IEW technics. My big pro for IEW is we can use it in any language she has to learn to write something.
  13. http://www.hmhco.com/shop/education-curriculum/math/math-in-focus-singapore-math/shop-now?i=1;programId=PG0091*;q1=Student+Materials;q2=eBook;segment=Components;x1=componentType;x2=format
  14. Me too, after all, but I just gave a explicit explanation about 'how to write a lab report' and then you get a lab report in a short engaging original story with the conclusion on rhyme... She did mention everything she used, and mentioned what she had noticed so she had fullfilled the assignment in her eyes. Reaction of dd: you didn't say it had to be boring.... I was not able to let her rewrite the report... I plan to enroll dd for Kidswrite Intermediate at Bravewriter in spring 2016. I think she can write better then I get to see. I don't think it will give better lab reports, but I do think they offer the guidance she doesn't accept from me (in writing)
  15. - get a thought / idea on paper. (& just stick to the assignment and don't turn everything in an original creative story espacially not lab reports....)
  16. The book I read was a combination of fiction and non fiction, so one had several pages describing the history and then a glimp of how it would look like voor people in that time in story style. I'm a fan of Scarlet Pimpernel, it is one of my annual rereadings and we just watched a tale of two cities with dd. I'm not sure I want to read a tale of two cities in English or Dutch ( or I should buy it in both languages as usual: in Dutch for me and it's original for DH & DD) The battle of Waterloo is 200 years ago now, so we get a lot of 'napoleon' on the market, but it is hard to find the useful stuff: I don't think dd will want to read a three book biography from the day he is born until his death....
  17. I finished a book about the French Revolution this week: http://jaapterhaar.weebly.com/uploads/2/5/0/7/25079977/5084014.jpg?398 To refresh my knowledge for next year. Try to find some more enjoyable about Napoleon, its follow-up Meanwhile a reread of : Jacoba of Holland ( Zeeland and Henegouwen) http://s.s-bol.com/imgbase0/imagebase/large/FC/4/6/2/1/1001004006831264.jpg A Belgian-Dutch piece of Medieval History.
  18. Would this be useful? http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/3141208255/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF It also has a workbook
  19. Thanks! Not for now I think, but i think it might be useful when dd has to pass 12th grade French oral exam (B2/C1 level)
  20. Dd reads them for fun. It is hard to find some fun math at Alg2/Trig and further level
  21. My SIL used Powerglide for Highschool German, I used it for Early Elementary Spanish. I don't think it is the most efficient way to learn a Language imo. we use a mix of books for French: Breaking the French Barrier ( we have the app only, but one can use also books) Easy readers with Audio CD spoken by native speaker (Lire et s'entrainer is available at Black Cat, A1 is beginners level) Rory's story cubes for Speech Duolingo Good luck!
  22. Yes, Farmers are subsidized in Europe. But farmer subsidies(?) is a web I've never untied(?)... It seems very complex and unclear :(
