  1. Actually we do! Our life is such that it pays to be super flexible and it worked out better to do it early for our family so we can actually enjoy the process and not rush through it. Also my dh's dad is seriously ill and he may have to fly back to the US at any time and stay for a few weeks and we wanted to enjoy our oldest dd's last "Family Christmas Decorating Extravaganza" (she leaves for college next summer) while he is here.
  2. :lol:Well that's what I get!!! I never look at the dates--now I will have to knowing that people are resurrecting 2 year old threads!
  3. We NEVER have! Sometimes it's difficult but it's always better in the long run. We travel a lot too and have never needed one for any reason. I love every month not worrying about the credit card bill.
  4. My black lab is between 50 and 60 lbs. I gave him 50 mg of benadryl yesterday and I was wondering about how often I can give it to him? He's been really super itchy and I know it's going to take a while for it to build up in his system but I would like to give him more during the day. Anyone have any help for me???
  5. I would tread lightly when it comes to family. I would definitely talk to dh about it "Did you see the new things that your brother bought for his collection?" And then maybe show him. I wouldn't just go right into "Your brother says he can't afford to help and yet he buys this unnecessary stuff!" You don't want to be seen as a trouble maker in the family. Dh should probably make a budget of what his mom needs every month so that they can see what the situation is and then put in what he's able to help with so they can see the shortfall and know exactly what they need to contribute.
  6. He needs to be in prison. What a sick individual. Disgusting--I couldn't even get to 2 minutes before I started to cry for her. Poor baby. Where's the mother???? SHE should be charged as well.
  7. I have received books from them and they were amazing. They responded to me immediately and worked hard to get the books they had for me to a team that was coming--they even had to pay a little extra for the shipping to get them there on time. I know they homeschool as well. Maybe they have been just swamped busy with life and school. Their only request of me is that when I'm done with the books I pass them on--not sell them. I absolutely did and another family is now blessed by them. I was grateful they helped me out the way they did.
  8. I listen throughout the year. It's because it's just so peaceful and joyful. Sometimes I just need that! I don't listen to it every day--just occasionally. But definitely all year long!
  9. A tad scary! I don't even want to know what some of my neighbors are up to and where they get their money.
  10. Whoever is having the dinner at their house buys the turkey and whatever else they decide to do and parcels out the rest of the meal to the rest of the family who then purchases what they need and brings it to the dinner. We also have each family bring pop (soda!) to share with everyone so the hostess isn't stuck with that expense as well. It turns out pretty even and most people bring extra things they like so we have a LOT of food! I've never heard of dividing it all out with receipts and everything. Seems a little business-like for me I guess.
  11. Start inviting people over to your house (I know it isn't always visitor friendly--but figure out a way to make it happen) and let them see that you are fun and able to enjoy a girls night or a couples' dinner party. I've been a pastor's daughter and then a pastor's wife for years before becoming a missionary and I can tell you that sometimes people think that their pastor and his wife need a break. Sometimes they feel that they wouldn't want to come to something outside of a church activity because they are so busy (this is compounded by homeschooling as well). Take the first steps by planning some nights at your house as well as maybe some nights out and give people the impression that you are wanting to socialize and see what happens. If after you make a good effort at it you still aren't being invited places--I would approach some good friends to find out why.
  12. THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE NOW!!!! So do we treat with tea tree oil? I'm so thankful I saw this. My poor dog will finally get some relief!
  13. You can give a dog benadryl????? THAT answers my prayers! Our black lab has had skin irritation now for quite some time and it's just hard to watch him be so miserable. I know it's an allergy because he had the same thing before and the vet said it was an allergy. How many mg can you give a dog of about 60 lbs? Anyone know?
  14. Just something to think about that we found out--my friends who live down here bought nooks and I have a kindle. Come to find out the ONLY e-reader that we have that can be used overseas (outside the US) for downloading books and all is kindle. Their nooks are useless unless they go back to the US to download books. Also--they can't get books from Amazon (at least that was true a few months ago) on their nooks and barnes and noble doesn't have a lot of freebies and things (again--that was true a few months ago). Anyway--I love my kindle and my oldest just had one given to her. My 2 youngest are getting the $79 ones for Christmas from their grandparents. They've been a good thing.
  15. Well my first reaction was "move";) but other than that I got nothing. Sorry!
  16. On a good year I buy all year long. This year I'm having to wait because of finances (we only spend what we can readily afford in cash). It's a little bit difficult for me as well because I have to order stuff and have it brought down as well so that gets tricky.

  19. I don't have a problem with other drinking alcohol (not getting drunk just a glass or 2 of wine now and then) but because of the massive history of alcoholism in my family I don't participate. I just don't think it's a good idea.
  20. I couldn't find the information about online classes via Skype but here's their website if you want to contact them. Maximo Nivel
  21. I may be a tad prejudiced but I think Spanish is useful right now especially in the US. There is another option for learning it--you can do it via Skype with a teacher here in an accredited program. It's pretty cheap and all the books for the class are on google docs so you can download them as needed for the class. I know Strider did this--I don't know if she's still doing it. But it was a positive experience for her. Here's the link: I'll send it later! Sorry gotta go and I'll do it when I get back!
  22. I will forever and always be a Minnesotan. I love my state and I've lived in more than a few! AND more than that I will always be a CENTRAL Minnesotan! Not the cities or the southern part--but the beautiful lake country of Minnesota. I love the trees and lakes. I love the people. I actually love winter!:)
  23. I also liked what he had to say about our mentality as westerners going into another culture. So well written.
