  1. I live in Guatemala at the base of large dormant volcano and I can see one of the most active volcanoes in the Western Hemisphere from my house (it's only about 3 miles from my house). People do roast marshmallows over the lava flows at Pacaya which is also near my house about 10 miles away on the other side of the dormant one I live on. It's an easy trip to Guatemala from Texas and there's a lot of things to do here!
  2. I came on to see if there's an update. Anything new? Still praying:grouphug:
  3. Just a fun little Monday morning look back on GREAT Super Bowl shows! U2 2002 Prince 2007 My personal favorite! IN THE RAIN none the less! I just wanted to remind the Super Bowl after 2 years of lame shows what they've been capable of in the past! Hope you all enjoy!:001_smile:
  4. I believe they are starting out in Kampala and then possibly moving to the boarder near Kenya (does that sound right?). But--thank you!
  5. Thanks you all! I appreciate it--I'm going to try to connect my friend with these people. :001_smile:
  6. Someone gave me a 2-month diaper service gift certificate when I had my first baby and so I used it. It was a nightmare! We didn't have a washer and drier so I had to go to the laundry mat to do laundry and we spent so much money on all the clothes that got wet or p**py that it was truly inconvenient. Yes we used plastic coverings and things--still had issues. Anyway, that's my experience!
  7. are there any WTMers in Uganda? Does anyone know anyone who lives in Uganda who homeschools? I have a really great friend who homeschools her kids who is moving to Uganda to be missionaries and I would love if there was already someone there for them to connect with. They were missionaries here last year and we became good friends. A wonderful family and they are truly missed here in Guatemala. So, if you know anyone, could you let me know? Thanks!
  8. LOVE Amsterdam and hope to live there someday. Definitely do the museums and Anne Frank house. We also took a really short and beautiful train ride into Haarlem and toured the Corrie Ten Boom house and the cathedral there (St. Bavo's) so cool! I would highly recommend the canal tour. And then there's the chocolate factory! Doesn't officially open until 2013 but I've heard that there are great chocolate tours in connection with it. There's also some great walking tours. LOVED everything!
  9. I had my tubal ligation in 1998 and it actually regulated my cycle. I truly didn't have any issues at all, until recently when I'm thinking I started peri-menopause because now I can go months.
  10. I have friend who is a sahm with one baby and her house is a mess. I think it bothers her husband but it doesn't bother her at all. Kinda weird to me because I've tried to keep my house as clean as I could and tried to make it a relaxing place for dh to come to at the end of a long day.
  11. I love Paula Deen. I LOVE her recipes! But, I do not eat them everyday of my life. I don't know how she eats, but, I would think most people would see that it's probably very smart to eat all things in moderation and to exercise a little bit every day for a healthier lifestyle. I'm not a huge fan of how she's handled it by teaming up with a drug company to spread the news, but, I am not about to judge how she handles this news. I would think that if I received this news it would take me awhile to let it sink in and deal with what I needed to do to make things better. Maybe she had to do the same.
  12. :iagree: When I first started reading it I thought to myself, "Please tell me that the lions ate those men and then waited around for help for the little girl." I also couldn't believe it when they wrote that they have 3 men in custody but 4 are still at large!:001_huh: It took 7 men to "convince" a 12-year-old CHILD to marry one of them??? Sick.
  13. Girl saved by lions. It just made me grateful for this little girl and the outcome. It could have been so bad.
  14. :grouphug:I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart and prayers go out to you and his family.
  15. It wouldn't bother me because I am glad to have my kids back in school and our life back to normal. The holidays are wonderful but I love getting back to routine.
  16. I had 2 girls first and I was thrilled! My dh truly didn't care what we were having and was super excited to have baby girls. We thought we were done after dd #2 and found out before she was a year old that we were being surprised with #3. At that point I kind of thought it would be nice to have a boy since we intended to surgically end any chance of having anymore children (for health reasons--I had horrible pregnancies). #3 was a boy and we were thrilled! We probably would have been thrilled had it been another girl--but a boy was awesome since it was absolutely our last chance and we had 2 amazing, beautiful girls.
  17. You ABSOLUTELY have to read Bruchko. My kids loved it! They kept begging for more when I would finish a chapter. Still one of our favorites!
  18. True! Unbelievable! I've been trying to figure it out for days and in a moment of desperation thought "Why don't I try the hive?" And voila! There it is!
  19. That's it!!!! Thanks so much! I was hoping it was available on Kindle--but it's not yet. Soon I hope! Thanks again!
  20. I'm trying to find the title of a book I read several years ago about an episcopal priest named Hillary and his wife Lexi. I remember that it took place in an east-coast city (maybe Pittsburgh?) Anyway can anyone help me out? It was written in about the '40s or '50s.
  21. We like it. It's one of my kids' favorites. But--they are 17 15 and 13 so that could make a difference.
