Nachos were a hit here with one child - tortilla chips, cheese, lettuce, diced tomatoes and guacamole. Sometimes, I even melted some velveeta and put it in a thermos, but not usually. One of my kids would eat things if they weren't "normal" bread - so anything you would normally put in a sandwich, but on a bagel or an English muffin or wrapped in a tortilla or on a cucumber boat. Cheese quesadillas with either salsa or guacamole to dip it in. Or tomato soup in a thermos. Muffins? Does he eat cold hot dogs? My kids did, so occasionally I packed leftover "Pigs in a Blanket" that they ate cold at co-op.

We got a secluded farmhouse VRBO in Paducah, KY. It's about 6ish hours south of us and in the path of totality. At this point all 5 of us will be going. ETA: we were just going to go down for the weekend, and driving back on Monday to go back to work on Tuesday. Now, with Illinois' new paid leave for all act, I'm taking the week off. Although we'll still drive back, I get a week of vacation!

S/O: How old were you when you purchased your first house?
historically accurate replied to DawnM's topic in The Chat Board
I made more (actually probably much more but I can't really recall details) than DH when we bought our first house together. He was a perpetual no-idea-of-the-future student, living at home, taking 8 or 9 years to complete an AAS before he met me. I dragged him through his last semester of comm college and then kicking and screaming through a night school "Complete your Bachelors" program after we got married. -

I bought a singlewide mobile home at 22 (single), sold it and purchased a "stick built" house at 26 (married about 6 mos, no kids). -
This was a lucky guess - I had a different word in mind, and in the middle of typing, I said, "Oh, what about XXXXX?" Lo and behold: Wordle 948 3/6 🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜ 🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I am due both an Illinois' pension and Social Security. Our Illinois pension actually has a page saying I am due both in their entirety. https://www.imrf.org/en/retirees/retirees-must-know/imrf-and-social-security#:~:text=With the exception of a,full retirement benefits from each. I would definitely talk to your pension provider since the page I linked here says that SS tries to lower the benefits for Illinois pensioners commonly. It really depends on how the pension is set up.

January 2024: What are you reading?
historically accurate replied to Vintage81's topic in The Chat Board
I finished Legends & Lattes, the orc becoming a barista storyline. Very much a cozy read, in fact, it reminded me quite a bit of TJ Klune's stories. I enjoyed it enough that I ordered the prequel from the library. I started Mrs. Grant and Madame Jule by Chiaverini. Not very far in, but I'm enjoying it. I also finally finished Sisters Under the Rising Sun. I did get a little confused by the host of characters, but the story was very well done. I started Hellbent, the third in the Orphan X series. -
