Public school funds v. homeschoolers?
historically accurate replied to El...'s topic in The Chat Board
My kids are just about graduated and no ps involvement was really ever allowed. Tried to find a district (tried 4 and a couple of privates) that would allow oldest to take the PSAT and APs, no go. She ended up full dual enrollment, which, coincidentally is free for public schoolers and full-pay for homeschoolers. We did get ACT for the kids at the local private; we were "rescheduled" out of the local public twice, so I don't know if that was just a fluke or them keeping us out as homeschoolers. The large school district next to us let one DD do chess club for about 3 months, and then they cut her off due to "administrative issues" of having her on the team. That was an even harder thing than not getting to do it at all honestly. A local private school did allow oldest to do rocketry club there for a couple of years. I just steered clear of the public school for the most part. -

Does anyone have an electric bicycle?
historically accurate replied to Laura Corin's topic in The Chat Board
My co-worker has a lectric bike. She uses it to commute (about 5ish miles?) as well as bike rides on the weekend with her husband. She's got foot problems (has had a couple of ankle surgeries), and the bike allows her to keep up with her husband. She loves it. -
Ugh, at least it came easier to me than yesterday, but there were just too many options! Covid update: I'm still negative, DD feeling better as of last night (will test this morning), DH in the thick of it. Other DD in the house was the first, and she has already recovered. Ok. I’ll start the post about the big angry outburst
historically accurate replied to Indigo Blue's topic in The Chat Board
Ran to the health dept this morning for more covid tests, and my DD was in the car with me. She put on a country music station, and Rodney Atkins' song, These are my People, came on. Never really paid attention to it too much before. This verse struck me after having caught up on this thread this morning (bolding mine).
Well, we take it all week on the chin with a grin till we make it to Friday night And it's church league softball, holler 'bout a bad call, preacher breaking up the fight Then later on at the Green Light tavern, well, everybody's gatherin' as friends And the beer's a pourin' till Monday mornin', and we start it all over again
And then looking it up when we came home, and reading Wiki, Rodney Atkins' has been accused of DV in the past (nothing since that one incident though). Oh, ugh, he's also the "Cleaning my Gun" daddy-daughter song guy. I hate that song. -
I stared at this one WAY too long. Ugh. Wow, this one was tough for me. DH and DD have covid - I hope this isn't a sign of covid-brain-fog (I'm still testing negative, but I wouldn't be surprised since they've both coughed all over me and I'm doing their laundry/washing up their plates/etc). Vent: primary care appointments
historically accurate replied to TexasProud's topic in The Chat Board
We live close to one like this as well; however, this year, insurance doubled our urgent care copay from $25 to $50. So, we're back to waiting for appointments in the hospital system. -

The Class of 2024 College Acceptance Thread
historically accurate replied to JennyD's topic in The College Board
My sig is accurate, but fortunately, Jr. child has already decided she's attending the local cc first. She wants to go into library science, so she will need grad school and wants to do it all as cheaply as possible since librarians don't make a lot. Now, fingers crossed she doesn't change her mind around about next September...
