  8. Oldest DD used them. She did well with them and did well with Geometry. I found them boring, but I find Geometry boring to be brutally honest.
  9. My mom lived in a 32 foot RV for about 4 years after she retired. She loved it, but it became a lot since she was unable/unwilling to work on motors. When the RV broke down, she had to rent a hotel room and move herself and her 4 cats, and that got to be a lot at the end.

  12. Some things we don't buy that are "normal": most paper/plastic products - we use reusable napkins, plates, silverware. I buy about one 6-pack of paper towels a year. fabric softener cupcake liners - I finally broke down and bought some silicone ones since youngest started baking a lot in 2020, but I just washed the pan well previously. body wash - I buy bar soap greeting cards - I use DD's notecards (bought for school supplies) with a sweet note for birthdays. I don't send Christmas cards. I did buy a sympathy card recently at Dollar Tree though. My mom includes a $5 bill with any gift as an alternative to a card. house plants - my friends who are plant-savvy give me cuttings (that I then kill) spice mixes - I just mix my own baby food/puree pouches smoothies from a restaurant/smoothie packs alcohol - DH decided to stop drinking (although he never drank much) to save money. We haven't bought alcohol in years. Some other ideas that I do buy, but are options for savings: gift wrap - you can do fabric or re-use gift bags, etc kleenex - my friend keeps 1 package of Charmin around for when someone has a cold, but other than that, they use their Scott TP. My family would revolt; it was hard enough to wean them off of Puffs to Amazon's brand for kleenex LOL. cake mixes/bisquick/etc - with Pinterest, you could probably find a way to do this with a little effort from items in your pantry already. liquid detergent various cleaners - homemade or buy one to use everywhere
  13. Pulling up my budget: There's not a lot of "low-hanging" fruit. We could tighten up our energy usage, no dryer (actually it's currently broken, so we're already not using it), less heat/no AC, etc. I could actually get around to putting the plastic over the windows in the winter. We have streaming subscriptions to Hulu and Discovery Plus. One DD and I take a weekly yoga class; DH has a Planet Fitness membership. This can be replaced with free videos from the library and/or walks/hikes outdoors. We could stop paying for phone lines for everyone; we could have a house phone and an "out of house" phone and get along fine mostly. Groceries and toiletries: can cut back on snack/convenience foods. We buy some things like chips & dessert items for lunches (can take an apple and homemade treats instead). One family member loves snapple tea, and another is addicted to caffeinated sodas. We could make family members all use the same brand - no "that doesn't work well for my hair" or "I don't like the smell of that XX" or whatever. Could drop home internet and go to the library for most needs (kiddos take online classes, so they'd have to bike to the library to do the classes, but it could be done). Eating out Cats wouldn't get any treats nor any new toys. Probably would stop using their water fountain, since it requires filters. Maybe be more vigilant on trimming their claws, so we wouldn't have to keep replacing those cardboard plucky things. Other ideas: I already cut everyone's hair (except mine, and sometimes I do that too). Otherwise, I get a trim every 18 months or so, but stretching out beauty things like haircuts, Botox, mani/pedis, facials, waxing, etc might be options. Going down to one car due to retirement might work depending on location. We already have bare minimum wardrobes, but not buying new clothes for X amount of time is probably a feasible money saver for most Americans.
