  1. Look into the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area. You have Bishop Snyder and Bishop Kenny high schools, both are excellent. Free dual enrollment for public/private and homeschoolers, with books included. We are a mixed Southern Baptist and Catholic family who attend each others services, with no one ever being told they were going to hell for being Catholic. Large homeschooling community, look on Facebook for groups.

My morning response got lost, but I’ve found a few places and will start looking to see how close it is to hospitals. Are small farms mainly far from hospitals?

Is it very common for there to be mobile homes in Florida? Or am I coming up with only mobile homes on 3-5 acres because the price is under $250k?

Mobile homes are incredibly common in Florida, especially at a lower price point.

The property I listed above has 5 different hospitals within a 45 minute drive, including a VA and a major teaching hospital at UF. There are very few areas in the state that you are very far from at least a smaller community hospital.

I've been looking on Redfin for cheap but large lot size and removed the a1 zone. There are many more choices but more spread out rather than what I thought was more centralized when I searched for a1 under $250k. It looks like some of these 4-5 acre properties allow some small farm animals, should the owner choose to keep one. He doesn't plan to but wants to keep that option open just in case he stays put there.

He's a conservative Christian and wants to be with others who have similar beliefs and that apparently is in Florida. He's also fluent in Spanish. It doesn’t matter if I tell him there are places in California that he may like; it has to be in Florida, hopefully also near to a church where he can be part of a community. He had a brother there so at some point in his youth he visited there often.

Counties that come to mind with this criteria are Bradford, Baker, Putnam, and Union. Look up 8016 Valhalla Rd., Melrose, FL as an example (can't get the zillow link to paste correctly).

DH actually read the Hibiclens bottle and it says to keep away from eyes and ears because prolonged exposure can cause blindness and deafness. Sooooo, now he's scared of it. Dang it!

And how should I treat his shoes? Antifungal foot spray? Power?

Selson Blue (or any dandruff shampoo) is what is most popular in the wrestling community to keep fungal infections away. My wrestler uses it as a shampoo and bodywash daily and hasn't had ringworm in years.

And yes, spray the shoes with the antifungal foot sprays (generic is just as good as name brand) every time he takes off his shoes.

  5. Honestly, I would go through one of the grocery chains that are eligible to give it. In my area, that is Winn Dixie or Publix. They each have information on their websites for booking appointments.

County health departments can be very hit or miss in regards to how organized they are.

  7. There are hundreds of online CS degrees being offered. The key is to look at places that have offered the degree before the emergency pandemic online learning hit. UF (linked above) has been offering theirs for many years and is a fabulous institution. (It's my alma mater, so I may be a bit biased) A few others that my son looked at (online IT degree, but most have CS, too) are Georgia Southern, Oregon State, and FSU.

He looked at most of the places in this article https://www.computersciencezone.org/the-best-online-bachelors-in-computer-science-degrees/ - (staying away from the for profit schools).

Ok, so John's Hopkins, Covid Action, etc are doing a straight "number of positive tests done that day, divided by number of total tests done that day". Straightforward, can be used the same for all areas.

The below is copied from Johns Hopkins (bolding mine) - they are definitely not doing the calculation you describe. They only use negative tests in their calculation.

    https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/florida

Positivity Rates: Our calculation, which is applied consistently across the site and predates most states’ test positivity tracking efforts, looks at number of cases divided by number of negative tests plus number of cases.  ... Because states do not all publish number of positive and number of negative tests per day, we have no choice but to calculate positivity via our approach.

My oldest wrestled and my youngest did martial arts, so we have dealt with ringworm before, but only ever used anti-fungal to treat it, and it always worked quickly.  The fact that she has to put bandaids on them makes me think they aren't getting a chance to dry out properly (if that's even a thing!).

I did find an unopened bar of anti-fungal soap in the bathroom closet.  My younger son never had any issues with ringworm after he started using it - could have been coincidence, but maybe not.  Dd is going to wash her arms with it in the morning and then try the bleach when she gets home from work - just in case she has an adverse reaction to it.  With her luck in the the 'weird things that happen to me' category, it's a strong possibility!

The Selsun Blue 3 in 1 shampoo/bodywash is what my son uses after wrestling, although Defense soaps are popular, too. They use tea tree oil, but the smell is really strong.

I agree that having to keep them covered with bandaids is prolonging the healing.

This is the idea I wanted to add to my post, but thought I would be blasted on here, as I have been before with this topic. I, also, would not want my girls wrestling a high school boy. The only saving grace could be if your daughter was in the 106/113 Lb weight class, because then she would probably be wrestling prepubescent boys.

Not necessarily. Best 106 on my son's team last year (and in the state) was a Senior. 113 and 118 were both Juniors. Heavyweight this year is a Freshman.

I really don't understand how co-ed wrestling would work given the huge strength disparity between boys and girls even if they are the same weight class. Did not know this existed!

Wrestling isn't all about strength, there is a lot of technique and skill involved. My son's wrestling club has some high school girls in it and they can hold their own quite nicely.

  12. My son is a wrestler, and his club has been up and running, first at coach's houses and now in a rented gym space, since they closed schools here in March. It was limited at first to just the team members, but has grown at this point to have 60+ wrestlers, youth and high school. We are one of the top teams in the state in our division, and there is and always has been a single week break between the season and "off season". In this sport, it's keep going or get left behind, and my son doesn't want to give it up and I won't ask it of him.
