  1. Could he have been pulling his pants up because they were falling down as he ran?
  2. In the cases of both Gil Collar and Dillon Taylor the cases were presented to a grand jury and both times they failed to indict. Both were of similar age of Brown and both were unarmed when they were shot dead by a law enforcement officer. I am sure there are more. Dillon Taylor's case had been spotlighted lately and Gil Collar's was local to me. This case in Ferguson is not the anomaly many try to pretend it is. It is unique in that the transcripts were released. It seems prosecutors bring these cases to a grand jury despite their belief there is no crime to prosecute in the interest of transparency and to avoid any accusation of bias.
  3. I read your bolded quote to say the accused does not have the right to insist on sharing testimony with a grand jury. Do you read it differently?
  4. My dream would be for a young sibling set of 3 girls to fall into our laps in around 5 years when my youngest of 3 boys will be 5. I hope you update us on the situation!
  5. I have noticed you mention this video and situation many times. What similarities do you see between this situation and the one in Ferguson? Do you think the tactics used would have been different if Houseman had physically attacked the officer(s)?
  6. I am an Alabama mutt- I just identify with my family. No particular heritage at all.
  7. I love being a nurse. The flexibility, pay, varying opportunities- I don't know another career that offers all nursing offers. There are so many more jobs other than bedside nursing. I can work 2 days a week and make much more than my sisters who are puic school teachers with Master's in their field. I can easily further my education and greatly increase my salary. I would encourage anyone, especially a male, to pursue nursing as a career.
  8. We just claim a chair and hope for the best. I don't carry in money at all. We can load money onto our wrist bands and sporadically add $10 over the season to cover drink refills. We live 30 minutes from one and my parents get us season passes so we go regularly and have never had anything taken.
  9. Thanks ladies. I posted this in the K-8 section too and one of those posters suggested Miquon so I looked at it and it seems like a perfect "supplement" for MFW. Anyone have experience with it?
  10. Yes, what is the difference between the 3?
  11. How do you decide which one and why? We are probably doing MFW for K this upcoming fall and because it incorporates math lessons in the curriculum I don't want to spend a ton of $ on another math. How do I know which parts I need when I choose the program? I looked at Right Start but it seemed like it would be so pricey. Thank you all in advance!!!
  12. How do you decide between Essential Math, Math in Focus and Earlybirds? Then, after you pick your program, how do you know what parts you actually need? I don't really want to spend a ton of $ on math because we will likely be using it with MFW and they incorporate math into the core. We will be doing our K year starting this fall and I still don't know which of these programs to use. I just want to have something to use if DS shows a strong interest in learning more math than MFW provides.
  13. We go tomorrow to observe so I will update after that - thanks for all of the info!
  14. We sent back P4/5 also. It wasn't for us at all. I was very thankful for their generous return policy. The catalog came in a week or so ago and I found myself wanting to order again. I want it to work for us but it doesn't at all. I have a friend who uses it and loves it, though.
  15. I am having troubling navigating the multiquote but wanted to tell all of you thank you for responding. It is helpful to hear differing views. I have a dear friend who really wants me to love it so I am going to go observe and then make a decision. As of now I am strongly leaning toward just joining the more "fun" co-op for this year. It is only $60 per year and until my youngest child is 5 I don't have to teach and can just sit in the nursery with the youngers. The poster who mentioned that I would need childcare for my baby - thank you! I had never considered this and I did ask and this group does not seem to have a nursery. That will make it almost impossible. Although I am sure my mother in law would be happy to watch the baby, that isn't how I want to "spend" my free childcare.
  16. I want to start by thanking all of you for coming here to share your opinions and experience. I read here almost daily and have learned so much from all of you. We are considering joining CC this next school year for my almost 5 year old. We will go observe next week so I will have a clearer picture then. However, I am so curious I am wondering if I can skip ahead and get some answers from some of you. I am going to be in my last year of nursing school next year in addition to having him and my 10 month old at home. My program is very flexible with testing done online and only clinical experiences being required out of the house. However, I am worried we won't get much done other than math and phonics. This is where CC comes in. Will the work we do for it be enough to cover the other subjects this year? I know he is only going to be 5 so I am honestly not stressing academics much but he loves to learn and does it fairly easily so I don't want to let this time pass us by. How much time at home can I expect to spend on the memory work for him? Anyone have any insights they think will be of use to me? I know CC isn't a cheap route to take but if it makes me feel like we are making some progress this year it will be money well spent. Thanks again!
  17. Thanks for this! My dh is printing the books for me Monday!
  18. Gah, you have sucked me back in and I am drooling over their stuff right now.
  19. If they had a strong Bible curriculum we would have bought it last year. Right now for K I think I am doing MFW along with several of the items Timberdoodle includes in their core. Their stuff looks exactly like the picture I have in my mind of how our school should work but it just doesn't seem cohesive enough for this first time hs mom. Well, and it is crazy expensive.
