  1. Yes, this. But we would love if you would get all of that changed for us :)It is simple to homeschool here but none of it is free.
  2. I can't imagine ISIS prioritizes hacking social media. I would think this has to be some kind of pranksters. I don't know, it just seems so juvenile and lame for a terrorist group to hack someone.
  3. I am so sorry. I wouldn't doubt it contributed. My friend's young daughter had serious issues with delusions and hallucinations after taking it last year. Their ped told her it wasn't uncommon and that it would go away and it did. It was hard though because you had no idea when it would stop. I imagine for a person who already struggled so much it may have been too much.
  4. I think it is far more attainable for a child of drug addicts than for the child who is one of 5 whose parents make just enough money to qualify for no aid but have absolutely nothing left they could contribute to tuition. Same as the mother of 4 who is still married to her husband who makes just enough money to make them in eligible for aid. The community college near me doesn't participate in federal loans, pell grants only. If you don't have cash or a grant, private loans are your only option and they aren't a good option.
  5. I want to know what everyone thinks. I am excited to learn more and think it could be wonderful. I love reading the different viewpoints on the board and want to hear from all of you.
  6. No need to post publicly and call her out. It doesn't surprise me that by doing so you invited confrontation from her friend. I don't agree with either action.
  7. This. My oldest son still has very soft BMs but since he has been potty trained you can see that they are formed.
  8. But these are not problems that can be attributed to LEOs. If a white drug user has parents who can pay for rehab and get the arrest wiped clean that isn't the fault of the officer who arrested the black drug user who doesn't have those resources and has to serve time.
  9. I agree. You don't have to convince me some LEO are jerks, some are racist, some are whatever quality you want to assign. I imagine they are a pretty diverse group of people and can pretty much be assumed to be representative of the general population. My dad would say they are a higher proportion of jerks than the general population but what does he know? I don't believe that any good ever happens by ignoring pieces of data that don't fit with our view and hyperfocusing on those that do align with us.
  10. We agree again. I shared the statistics I shared because it directly aligns with the proportion of LEO involved shootings. If a black male is 3 to 4 times as likely to have interaction with a LEO than a white male then that directly aligns with the fact that black males are 3 times more likely to be shot by LEOs.
  11. We don't disagree. That is a societal problem and not one that law enforcement officers can correct in their day to day job.
  12. And 38% of them were committed by 12% of the population, assuming not one of the 29% unknown offenders are black. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_3_murder_offenders_by_age_sex_and_race_2012.xls
  13. I am thankful for the work of The Innocence Project. I see they have had 321 overturned by DNA evidence and about 2/3 of those have been listed as African American since 1989. How many cases have they tested DNA for? How many times did they find something to affirm the conviction? How can one find a list of all cases they have taken and see it broken down by race? If they take more AA cases then they will naturally overturn more AA convictions. I don't know this to be the case but I can't easily find any information to shed light on the subject. They provide very limited data.
  14. Below is the notation at the bottom: It states the data is based on arrests, not convictions. Here is a link to the table. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_6_murder_race_and_sex_of_vicitm_by_race_and_sex_of_offender_2012.xls The FBI states that 62.5 percent of all murders were cleared by arrest or other exceptional means (no clue what that means) in 2012. The other 37.5 percent could be assumed to be assigned by demographic and it wouldn't significantly alter the proportion of murders committed by whites vs. blacks. This is the link to the FBI clearance data. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/clearances NOTE: This table is based on incidents where some information about the offender is known by law enforcement; therefore, when the offender age, sex, and race are all reported as unknown, these data are excluded from the table. T
  15. I also have to wonder where the FBI puts Hispanic people?????
  16. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_6_murder_race_and_sex_of_vicitm_by_race_and_sex_of_offender_2012.xls I questioned the same thing you did. I did notice when I looked again this is only data for single victim/single offender. I suppose the discrepancy is because of the single/single specification. The link below is a more comprehensive table for 2013. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-43 ETA: Also females committed an additional approximately 1800 murders.
  17. This is one of the most realistic and potentially helpful suggestions I have seen.
  18. According to the FBI crime statistics, black men committed 2257 murders in 2012 compared to 1804 committed by white men. Given those population demographics you gave that makes black men 6 times more likely to be murderers than white men. Given that, it would be expected that black men would be more likely to have negative interactions with LEO and those interactions could potentially lead to deadly force.I am not trying to say black men deserve to die, that police always do the right thing or anything of the sort. I just don't understand why this subject had been talked to death and I haven't seen anyone mention this in these threads.
  19. Are the grand jury transcripts available for other cases? How do you know this is unheard of in cases such as this one? The process is generally regarded as secret.
  20. I am so tempted by this- thanks for sharing!!!
  21. I am quoting her post because I don't know how to mq.Her first paragraph is about identifying individuals responsible for property damage during riots in general. She remarks that Ferguson business owners would love to be able to identify those who committed criminal acts against their businesses. She says anti-police , cop-killing and committing felonies rather than take a legal approach: I find it pretty clear she is indicating people with those perspectives have a culture of lawlessness. You assigned those qualities to black people.
  22. You said black people- no one else did. I believe she is referring to the people who want to kill cops and abolish laws as lawless. I think people who participate in that culture would be just fine being labeled as lawless. Can you not understand everyone isn't a racist.?
  23. Dillon Taylor and Gil Collar where both not black, not armed, of similar age of Brown and shot and killed by law enforcement. I am sure there are others- Taylor has been a recent spot light because of the Brown case and Collar was local to me. Both times a grand jury failed to indict the shooting officer. Both officers were black. I imagine both feared for their lives when they shot.
  24. We do know that now, after the fact. It wouldn't have been possible to know that at the time. Much the same in the case of Taylor.
