Beware. My daughter had ear pain without infection. Turned out to be cholesteatoma, which is quite serious.

If you must go, arrange to wait outside instead of in the waiting room.

Migraine treatment options - what else can I try?
Pronghorn replied to Greta's topic in The Chat Board
I have never had the headaches, but I used to get migraine aura. That quit when I began using fiber supplements for digestive issues. -
Recommendations For Geometry Curriculum
Pronghorn replied to Reefgazer's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We tried Life of Fred Geometry after successfully completing their two algebra books. For my daughter, the geometry book was a big fail. It jumped into proofs too quickly without enough scaffolding for kids who are not mathematically inclined. We abandoned Fred after just a few chapters. Jacobs Geometry has worked better, although I still find myself providing tons of support. -
Recommendations For Geometry Curriculum

We have Jacobs Geometry. We also bought a test book and an answer book and some videos to go with it. We have used everything but the videos. Jacobs does not emphasize the kid doing a lot of independent proofs. Often they have to provide reasons for each step of proofs. -
I feel bewildered when people say they are "only" middle class. I am SO happy to be middle class! And I have trouble not getting angry when people complain that only poor people can afford college. If they knew what poverty was like, they'd have a very dufferent perspective.

When I was in my twenties, I always felt out of control at potlucks. I would gorge myself with free food, feeling embarrassed but still overeating.

For many years, I felt rich if I had fresh fruit in the house. I did not always eat it, but oh the joy of opening the refrigerator and seeing it!

This makes sense, although I was thinking of asking for a meeting with someone from the music department, not just a general tour. That would be where a portfolio would be most useful. I'm thinking now she can just bring the resume and some compositions.
-
I am not thinking of this as something to submit but more something to carry when meeting with folks from the music department. I thought having the actual programs would be good instead of just a list of performances.
-
Thank you for the suggestion. Not sure if it will work, but I may try it if I don't find something else.

I have a junior in high school who is a musician and composer. She'll probably be applying next year to music composition programs. I am trying to help her put together a portfolio to take with her when she visits colleges. It would contain a resume of her music work, along with printouts of all her compositions. I would also like to include programs of some of her more important choral performances, e.g. the ones in Carnegie Hall. I tried putting the programs in sheet protectors, but they are too flimsy for the weight of the programs. What have other people done to display performance programs? Please give me details!

Who is responsible for damage done by mice when renting? UPDATE: #27

In my experience, sonic pest repellents do nothing. -
Oral medication was very effective for me.

You could add probiotics to her diet. Acidophilus is good for the skin, I think.

Could she be constipated? That can increase body odor. If so, try psyllium fiber, but take it with lots of water. I would also look at diet, maybe reducing carbs and increasing fruits and vegetables. Is she eating any new spices that could be coming out through the pores? Maybe give her a vitamin supplement. Also, anxiety could be changing the smell of her sweat.

Wipe underarms and feet with cotton swabs dipped in alcohol.

High School Biology Suggestions?
Pronghorn replied to TheAttachedMama's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
This is not a total urriculum, but I highly recommend the genetics lectures from The Great Courses. -
There is a good reading list at attach-china.org. Go to the adult reading list there for suggestions. I suggest reading as many books as possible and possibly getting counseling to explore the couple's own personal marriage and individual issues. It sounds like this couple is probably young. I adopted at the age of forty-one and was grateful that I had considerable age and experience and some personal counseling prior to becoming a mom. If you have processed your own history fully, you can more effectively meet the needs of someone who has a different history.

Okay Dr. Hive, mental illness or just too sensitive?

Look into the connection between light exposure and sleep. I recommend lowbluelights.com. -
I believe there are supplemental nursing systems that are sometimes used by adoptive parents. You could try that to provide milk during nursing.

I take a supplement containing glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, MSM from Solgar. I have also used something from CVS that has those ingredients minus the hyaluronic acid. These are both very effective. My feet almost never hurt now and they even look different. The joint is smaller now.

I have one child, adopted when I was 41, now a teenager. I would have liked two, but parenting a little kid with emotional issues was really intense. And a second adopted child might be just as needy. I did not want to ever get in a situation of having to choose between two needy children. Plus this child has turned out to be as musician, and raising musicians is costly. So, having just one is probably the best thing for my child..
