  1. Hello Hive,

I am looking for suggestions for lodging around the Smokey Mountains where we could have a family reunion. We would need separate condos/living spaces for maybe 10 families. Places that have camping availability as well would be a plus. Anyone have any leads where there are condos/cabins under one property?

    Thanks!

You're free to talk to both NCAA and NAIA schools, there's no conflict there. But as Alewife mentioned, neither of those organizations have anything to do with the recruiting process, they just certify that a student is academically eligible after they're recruited. NCAA literally won't even open your file or look at your docs until a D1/D2 coach confirms that the student is being recruited at that school.

Your student should start calling and emailing coaches ASAP. Put together a simple athletic resume, including photos, academic and athletic stats, list of special skills, list of important wins/tournaments/accolades/etc., and include that in the email. Put short highlight videos online and provide links. If you want more detailed info about specific schools, or have questions about recruiting in a specific sport, the Athletic Recruiting board on College Confidential is very helpful.

If recruitment is a priority, and especially if the student's athletic abilities have just recently improved to a recruitable level, when many of the desirable recruiting slots are already taken, then it's also possible to take a gap year. That may be harder to do for, say, a PS football player, but it's quite common in club sports.  Assuming the student continues to improve and can get on coaches' radars earlier in the season, a gap year can be a smart move.

    Thank you so very much!

  3. Hello Everyone,

Thank you so very much for your assistance with this situation!

I did call two universities. They thought I could be the counselor and then have the high school send in their transcript through Parchment.

I did get some emails from Common App. At first they were confused by my question, but then said the high school counselor should upload my transcript as well as the online AP class transcript when they upload theirs. I explained that I wasn't sure they would upload a transcript that they were not associated with  (it didn't seem like they would consider that based off the email communication I have received) to which Common App replied that it was their job.

So...I do not want it to look as if she has not graduated.

Which way would be the best scenario if indeed the high school counselor would allow for uploading all three transcripts (the online AP class would be the 3rd transcript.)

**Also, do I sign and notarize the over-arching transcript  when the final grades are not in yet and then scan/upload? Or do I only sign/notarize once it is final?

    THANK YOU ALL!!!

  4. Hello,

My daughter homeschooled up through 10th grade then went to the local high school full-time. She is graduating this year; however, she will not receive their diploma. Instead she will receive a paper stating that she attended, but is considered a homeschooler. This is because we opted not to have her take 'test out' exams for every homeschooled class. These are typically up to 4 hour long in length. I wasn't feeling that she needed their diploma.

So, when the common app asks for the most recent school we will list this school, BUT do we say that she graduated from this school?? If she does not receive their diploma she wouldn't be considered as graduating from this school, correct?

Then could we indicate she graduates from homeschooling? This would not be the most recent school.

The main issue is two-fold: 1) who will be the counselor and 2) how do we get both official transcripts into the common app.

In addition, she is also taking an online AP class from a different source that we purchased for her. So, I guess that transcript would need to be uploaded as well.

The school guidance counselor was nice and said she would try to find a solution. She suggested I try asking common app. I created a parent account and sent an email with no response. Now, I can not figure out how to get back into my account as it always brings up my daughter's account.

I hope some of you experienced and wise people will know just what to do! ?

    Thank you so very much!!!!

PS don't pay attention to my signature. My kids are older than that now!

  5. Thank you so much Kirag714. I did open a dummy account as well, but now I can't figure out how to get to it as it always pops up my daughter's log in information. I wonder if I put down that my daughter will not graduate from this school then maybe it will not ask for counselor info? Maybe I can put down she will graduate from homeschooling (although not her recent school.)

Thank you for the suggest to cross post. I hadn't thought of that.

So far no response from the Common App!

  6. I was able to talk to the school counselor today and she was very nice. She was not sure how to best handle this situation. She suggested I contact the Common App maybe through their chat box to inquire.

It is true that my daughter will not receive their diploma, but rather something that says she attended for part of the highschool career and it will say something about a homeschool diploma.

So, for the education section where it asks for current or most recent school I will put the public high school. Do I then indicate that she will or will not graduate from this school? If she doesn't have their diploma it is like she will not graduate from the school? I am fine being the counselor I think. I just need to somehow get her official transcript from the school into the common app? Or would it be best to have them be the counselor and bring my official transcript and have them upload it?

    Any further input?

    Thank you all so much!!!

  7. The current transcript that I have made looks so awesome. However, I have the last two years on the transcript that were completed at the local high school. I have it indicated in the notes that these were completed elsewhere and to please refer to their official transcript. She is also taking an online AP class from a different source.

    Will this be a problem?

I planned on combining everything for the cumulative GPA. Of course, I would submit the local school's official transcript as well.

For my eldest daughter, she completed Freshmen year at the same school. We then decided that she wanted to homeschool for 4 more years. So we counted that 9th grade at the school as her 8th grade. I reported it in the notes sections and also submitted their transcript. She was accepted at all 10 schools where she applied (private and Big Ten). She also had an outside online AP class. So, I was thinking this would be a similar situation but maybe not.

    Thank you for any advice.

  8. Thank you everyone for your replies. I think I need to contact the school counselor.(I don't like this thought. LOL)  It was my understanding that because we didn't jump through their hoops and have my daughter test out for all of her classes that she did at home that she would not get their diploma. I was okay with her not having their diploma. I think there might be another diploma given like the "student attended here but didn't do the full requirements" even though we did

I didn't realize there can not be two counselor reports. Could I sneak my own in, for the area that you upload documents?

    Thanks!!

Yogibo. We love it. I bought one for my daughter for Christmas. I spent so many hours researching and in shock of the cost of bean bag chairs and then decided on this after watching several videos. It is used therapeutically for kids with autism. It can sit like a chair or make like a bed. We love to sit it on its side so it looks sort of canoe shaped and then lay in it. I have taken many glorious naps. We have the maxi. It is big but can stand on its end in a 4 x 4 space.
