  1. Maybe, this one? "Exploring America in the 1950s: Beneath the Formica". We haven't used it. It has been on my wish list. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1618211080/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I28QDBZ3UAIHD9&colid=1D60O4WXD6WY3&psc=0
  2. For enhancements, I would recommend "Horrible History" books for maybe your oldest or/and the second oldest. Also, Kids Discover magazines for all ages. Maybe Nathan Hale's hazardous tales and Chester comix for the oldest. We tend to let DS(10) read what interests him and gets him reading, so my recommendation might not be suitable for some families. But, these were read over and over by DS. Also, you could play games like Oregon Trail Card Game and Timeline game. Enjoy your trip!
  3. I don't play chess, either. But my son takes chess lessons and he gets assigned to do chess puzzles, fast and slow chess games, and watch videos at Chesskid.com as homework. If you don't mind the Chess"kid" part, I think it's a decent site to learn and improve. Enjoy!
  4. DS (10) likes may of the games mentioned above. He also likes Exploding Kittens and Organ Attack, and strategy games like Chess, Onitama, and Tsuro.
  5. Has anybody tried it? I'm seriously looking into this for DS, who loves chemistry. He wants to do real chemistry experiments. We are planning to enroll him in homeschool middle school science classes in a couple of years, so meanwhile we need something he can enjoy. I heard that the kits themselves don't have enough information, but they have online materials (video, I think) that have good infomation. I think I don't mind the lack of info so much if the video lessons are engaging. Any feedbacks will be appreciated! Thank you!
  6. I think it's your center, too. Ours could not recycle them till last year. We got a notice saying that they now accept waxed cartons and plastic bags.
  7. My son doesn't like eating vegetables. I'm not a good cook so I can't make vegetable dishes that he would happily eat. (He loves fruits, though). Fortunately he would drink green juice. I usually juice apple, parsely, carrots, celery, power greens that come in a bag/package, and sometimes fennel. I juiced beets once and he refused to drink it after one sip. I'm kind of getting tired of drinking the same..
  8. I also have a Zojirushi and really like it. The bonus is it cooks brown rice nicely.
  9. We really like our teacher, too! We usually do either a box of chocolates ($25-$30) or gift card ($25). But, I'm not sure if our price range is adequate enough because I see a few people contribute $50 to teachers appreciation dinner and presnets during teachers appreciation week.
  10. I don't know.... I Do think it is good and so does DS. But DH thinks some of the food I like are weird tasting :) I think Whole Foods and Sprouts sell similar ones (but not in those huge packages), so you might want to try it there. I like salty and crispy snacks like potato chips too much, so for me seaweed snack is healthier alternative.
  11. Our favorite is organic seaweed snack. Also, Organic olive oil Organic spinach
  12. Maybe "Math Olympiad Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools"? https://www.amazon.com/Olympiad-Contest-Problems-Elementary-Schools/dp/0962666211/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503546123&sr=8-1&keywords=math+olympiad+contest+problems+for+elementary+and+middle+schools
  13. I second Prime Climb. Games are part of our math rotation and DS usually picks Prime Climb. He would even ask to play for fun.
