  1. Is there such a big difference between the 5th grade book and the sixth grade book? In the new WTM, Susan suggests starting in the 5th grade book, Progressing with Courage (which is actually the 6th grade title). So it confused me a little. There seems to be a lot of repetition of material when I look at the table of contents. I can't get an idea of the actual difficulty level of the materials. Would starting in 6th or 7th be too ridiculous? Thanks ladies for all your help!
  2. What starting level would people recommend for a typical seventh grader new to Rod and Staff English? We've previously used JAG and Latin for grammar.
  3. How and to whom do we report the spammer? I've had this happen twice. The first time I forwarded the PM to you, the Admin. If there is a procedure we should do, please let us know. Thank-you so much! Annette
  4. Paige, I'd love to hear what others have to say also. I am doing CW Homer A and have the Harvey's Grammar but I really don't like it. I think Siloam has talked about using Analytical Grammar(AG) and Junior Analytical Grammar (JAG) with her children. (Look under the thread called "CM and Progymnasmata" in this forum.) The only problem with AG is it's high cost $99 new. JAG is cheaper ($40 new and you can find used copies (~$20) easier but it really only covers through 4-5 Grade. (Of course, in my son's PS 5th Grade, they did NO Grammar last year LOL.) Annette
  5. I just wanted to mention that SOTW are available for loan in some library systems. You may want to borrow before you buy. Annette
  6. I suspected that but wanted to ask to be sure. :001_smile:Thanks Jane!
  7. Since it's the end of the first quarter and most of the major curriculum purchases have been made and the money mostly spent for the year, I'm wondering how much I could get out of just buying the Seminar Workbook or if The DVDs are the real meat of the program. I have a sixth grader. Any input? Annette
  8. I would also recommend seeing a pediatric neurologist. It could be something more involved and I would say the sooner it is resolved the better. Try to stay busy and not worry while you are waiting to see the doctor. Annette
  9. That is so cool that you could split your account into 2 queues. Ditto about Net Flix keeping business hours and M-F work schedule. Often we wouldn't get a notice until the following business day. Annette
  10. I think you should go with what your heart tells you to do. If this were the oportunity of a lifetime, I'd do it. Is there any way you could all go and arrange for childcare for the outings they can't go to? Otherwise I tink the fact you are even asking saying you aren't 100% sure you are comfortable going and leaving (probably the toddler.) More than anything else you have to be comfortable with it. Annette
  11. I would be very careful with giving psychiatric medication to a child. If you are not extremely confident with the expert you are dealing with, I would ask for referrals and find someone you have confidence in and has had success with treating others with a similar conditions to your dd. HTH, Annette
  12. How do you get this diagnosed and can things get better with therapy? I have a 30 year old daughter of average intelligence but still stuggles with getting words out and communicating effectively with others and thus does not have meaningful relationships with people her age. Annette
  13. :iagree:I definitely think it would be much appreciated. Having something like that happen is very difficult. Others letting you know they care enough to help is what makes the world a better place. Annette
  14. :iagree:Have him show the work even if it is different than how Saxon teaches it. There are usually multiple to get to the right answers. Those students that can use different methods will have it over those that almost "memorize" how to solve a problem. I feel that they really understand "conceptually" what is going on. My 2 cents worth, Annette
  15. Sweet intoxicating drink --- "my sweet libation" quote from a movie. Annette
  16. Angel Food Ministries - what an interesting concept! That for the info. Annette
  17. Sandy, Thanks for your extra effort to clarify things for those who are utilizing this award for their HS groups. Annette
  18. We can only make the best judgement we can using the "expert" advice that is available at this time. Annette
  19. What a wonderful, caring, and unselfish daughter you have! When we open our hearts unto others we risk getting hurt. But if we never open our hearts because we might get hurt, we miss out on the blessing of giving and the reward of our Heavenly Father. Annette
  20. I bought my Nalgene bottle for boy scouts at the REI store. I would guess other outdoor type stores would have them. Annette
  21. Lucinda, You probably have a really amazing child. Most likely you could write a book on child raising since you have been fortunate enough to have successfully raised 5 sons. Before you know it, you'll be getting ready to dress up as Mother of the Bride. I'm sure you are already aware of how fast the years past. You are the best mom God could have given your daughter.
