  1. Hi, I have an average 8th grader who is starting Physical Science next week. I just noticed the notebooks that Apologia sells and looked at the online samples. We have the 1st edition of Apologia's Physical Science and the notebooks look like they are for the 2nd edition. Has anyone use a notebook with the 1st edition and was it easy, confusing, etc? Thanks, Wendy
  2. Hi, I'd love some suggestions for audibooks from free places like Librivox. It seems I'm in my kitchen lots this time of year and, while I love Christmas music as much as anyone, a change would be nice. Fiction or non-fiction suggestions are welcome. I'm a big Austen and Gene Stratton Porter fan, with a love for some good old American history also. Thanks! Wendy
  3. It was a good read and I liked his reasoning. His thoughts on getting a great education at a public (and cheaper) school made good sense, even though I'm a private college graduate and former admissions counselor at said private school. :)
  4. My son has been invited to apply and we are currently in the midst of the application process. Whew! It is lots of work! Just thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has done this and, if so, do you have any hints, etc? Did your student get a College Match scholarship or regular decision scholarship? It seems almost too good to be true, but we're giving it a shot. Thanks, Wendy
  5. Hi All, I am looking for options for making high school transcripts... I'd prefer something I can buy once and use for many kids. A program I can buy and download would be great. It doesn't have to keep all my records for 12 years of schooling or anything complicated like that - just a simple transcript program. I've done some looking around online and found http://www.teascript.com. I like it, but want something I can buy and use for multiple kids. Any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks! Wendy
  6. My son is at the end of his Junior year of HS. He has taken a college Calculus class offered through the local high school this year and done well. He even earned the Calculus student of the year for the school - which made us laugh. Anyway, I know we need to start collecting references and that many colleges want references from teachers other than parents for homeschoolers. He is planning to ask this teacher, but we have questions regarding etiquette... Does he ask for just one copy of the letter or is it "unrude" to ask for more than one? Should they be in sealed envelopes? Is it OK with colleges if we get one letter and then make photo copies of the letter to submit to them? Thanks for any and all suggestions! Wendy
  7. Hi, My son will be taking the AP Macroeconomics test this spring. I want to get him a test prep book but there are so many! :) Thought I'd ask the advice of those who have been there before us. Thanks, Wendy
  8. I'm leading a group of middle school students in a coop this year. One of the things we're going to do is read a play aloud. (We're using it as a sneaky way to improve their dramatic read alound skills and also expose them to some more good literature.) Any suggestions? My mind went first to "Our Town" and been pretty much stuck there ever since. :) Thanks for your input! Wendy
  9. Hello, I'm looking for a few websites which provide online math drills. It would be great if they were free. Trying to find some different ways for my 5th and 2nd graders to get some extra practice that wouldn't count as "school." We've used the online drills from Math-U-See, but just wanted to know if anyone else had some suggestions. Happy Homeschooling, Wendy
  10. Thanks everyone! You answered my question completely. And, yes, the budget is tight...that's why I am trying to combine the two. :) Blessings, Wendy
  11. I appreciate your response! I think that I actually bought one of my student workbooks for level C from you. :) Blessings, Wendy
  12. Hi, I have a 10th grader and 7th grader. I was planning on starting them with IEW. Both are good writers. I currently own SWI C. Can I start on C without having done B or will we be missing something big? Thanks! Wendy in WI
  13. Thanks so much for your respose! I went to their site and looked for the answer key for the history reader of LFC B and couldn't see it. Can you tell me where to look on the website? I don't see it anywhere under the free resources. Feeling rather dense, Wendy
  14. Hello, We've been using the History Readers that go along with the LFC. I could handle A, but not that we're are getting farther into B, I am hitting some snags. :) Does anyone know of an answer key to the translations in the readers? It would certainly help me explain the "whys" of the translations. Thanks so much, Wendy in WI
