  1. What are you using for LA? I am very interested in pros and cons of any curriculum you have used.. We are using Abeka in 9th grade this year and are not really thrilled with it and want something strong for next year. DS is college bound so we want a very good foundation in LA. Thank you and Happy New Year!
  2. We are planning to use RS - Latin American Level 1 this year with my 9th grader. The homeschool edition says it will take 2 years to complete. I find that difficult to believe and have never heard that before. I would appreciate all input - anyone used this - how long did it take you? Also any other pros / cons would be welcomed. I posted this in the high school forum, but thought many of you may have already completed this as well. Thank you,

  4. Robin We are using IEW for the 1st time this year - SWI C & think it is great. They are very helpful and responsive on their Yahoo group if you would like to speak to a rep directly http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEWFamilies/ I hope this helps. Rhonda
  5. I have heard wonderful success stories from parents that have used this writing curriculum and would like to try it. My ds is going into 9th grade and we already have a very full schedule and it seems to be quite time consuming. Can the IEW C take the place of a high school english class? How would it be listed on their transcript? I understand some use the program for 2 years; how would credit be issued for that scenario & how would it be listed on a transcript? I would love to hear any suggestions how to incorporate this program without it taking too much time. Thank you so much.
  6. I see that some are past; according to the website you have archive access. If these are available on PBS, what are we getting for the $49?
  7. I see this is on Homeschool Buyers Co-op for $49 and is usually $500. I am not familiar with the program and would appreciate all input. Thank you.
  8. Thank you. I understand Dave Ramsey is offering his products on Homeschool Buyers Co-op this month. I better check it out.
  9. What is your opinion of the content of his books for teens concerning investing / business? What other products have you used for this subject and liked? Thanks for your input.
  10. We are planning to use Konos - you can utilize only the parts that are of interest to you. Their history program offers many options / activities.
  11. I am using Hakim as the base and want to supplement with the TC videos. I have not been able to coordinate them to flow together & was just wondering if anyone else has had success with this. Maybe someone out there will share how they accomplished this!!
  12. Has anyone used these together? What is you opinion? How did your dc like them? Does anyone have a schedule to coordinate the two? Thank you.
  13. I enjoy the magazine - just find it difficult to find time to read all of it!!!
  14. Wow - thanks to all of you for your suggestions. Has anyone used anything by Larry Burkett?
  15. I want to do a finance class with my teen and would like to hear suggestions / comments. What curriculum / books did you use? How long did it take? Was it worth the time and effort? All other comments are welcomed. Thank you in advance for your input.
  16. If it isn't too late, I would love a copy. Thank you so much. rhfavano at yahoo dot com
  17. Anna, It is actually quite simple. Click on the link to the book, when it opens go to File - Save As - enter a name for the file (ie: 501 Writing Prompt.pdf) The file extension pdf is very important, so be sure you use it. (You can choose a file if you have one set up for school books or something similar to save it in, but it is not necessary.) Now click the Save button & it is now saved on your computer. You can also print it when it opens or after you have saved it on your computer. Good luck!
  18. We used ACE Paces and didn't care for them and switched to Algebra 1 in Saxon. We use the DIVE CD's and my ds really enjoys it and is doing very well. I don't know how this would work in a co-op setting.
  19. Funny, my dh & I just had this conversation about our boys. From day 1 they were as opposite (and still are) as they could possibly be. Isn't it amazing they can be raised in the same household with the same parents and be sooooo different.
  20. I would like to see what is available as well, so hope this bump gets some more responses.
  21. This is our first year & my son is 13. They have a variety of projects the children can participate in & you can do some (with their literature/guides) on your own if you choose. It seems to depend on your local leaders as to how well organized and active your chapter is. They encourage parental involvement; the more parents to help, the projects they can offer. I think it is a very good program & am glad we have gotten involved. Good luck & enjoy.
  22. We use the Usborne Children's World Cookbook (Internet Linked) to read about the food preferences and then cook a cultural meal for each area we study. It is actually a lot of fun and a great way to remember the region.
  23. My ds is also interested in these areas and would like to become a lawyer. We live in a rural area and would appreciate suggestions for debate. I am also not familiar (this is our 1st year to homeschool) with logic curriculum. I will check out Classical Legacy Press; are there any other options / suggestions for this?
  24. Hi - I'm from Northwest AR, I live near Fayetteville.
