  1. check out the Goldstein book - easy reading - see link above for samples - older edition 9th is quite reasonable
  2. What is Finite Math? http://www.sscc.edu/home/jdavidso/mathadvising/aboutfinite.html sample text book - college http://esminfo.prenhall.com/math/goldsteinfm9e/closerlook/sample.html there are some free text-books out there or buy an old edition for cheap videos https://www.udemy.com/math-is-everywhere-applications-of-finite-math/

  5. of interest Origin of the Word Root http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/52673.html
  6. Is this "Junior College" public or private? Typically two year public schools are Community Colleges.
  7. your school is still a relative bargain compared to most State U - of course they are ALL over-priced now versus 30 years ago!
  8. if you use LOF keep Foerster for additional word problems, Foerster has good word problems
  9. 1) Use the available rating systems such as US News etc 2) that's not "merit" aid which is competitive (grades, SAT, awards, etc) by my definition - are you looking for is financial aid based on family need? or maybe "diversity aid" ? 3) ABET is less of a factor for CS
  10. oh what Mathematicians think is simplified  Squareroot( 2+Squareroot[3] ) ~ 1.9318516525781365734994863994578 :drool5:
  11. For Algebra 1 you could search the web for quizzes and tests or EOC exams. Especially for the tests you should have a few word problems that look different from the text book problems and examples.
  12. Is there a site that can calculate an estimated EFC without doing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)? (not applying to college now)
  13. I seriously doubt someone not attending a school could play sports for that school in AZ
  14. this also may be of interest: https://www.hvcc.edu/highschool/faq.html https://www.hvcc.edu/catalog/admissions/24hrprogram.html https://www.hvcc.edu/dl/courses/index.html https://www.hvcc.edu/highschool/online.html not sure what this program costs if any discount for high schoolers (I'm originally from upstate NY and still have family there)
  15. actually an EOC exam is just a comprehensive final exam for a particular course - Algebra 1 Common Core in this particular case Common Core at the high school math level moved some topics to middle school level and emphasizes other topics such as understanding and applying functions
  16. related http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/549133-live-online-math-for-pre-algebra-and-algebra-thoughts/?hl=%2Bbovey&do=findComment&comment=6313058
  17. Doesn't that somewhat go against the idea of a "Cognitive Abilities Test" since they are already grade leveled. You want to learn their "natural" abilities versus the general population. My son took this in 7th grade to get into the G&T program at his charter school.
  18. wow that is small and of course cost per pupil would be higher How big are the DO classes?
  19. Does anyone know the typical/average size class for Wilson Hill, Well-Trained Mind, Memoria, Veritas, DO, etc?
  20. yes we pay special county taxes that provide a lot of the so-called subsidized part. I have to give the local large CC chancellor credit when the state cut out payments he lopped off 3 branch presidents that made good salaries as one of his first actions.
  21. make sure the school is ABET accredited in the desired major - check selectivity rating against other ABET schools example RPI is a good Engineering college that generally admits a fair amount of "nerds" on merit (high Math SAT, etc) that may be less "rounded" than other students. I am not using the term nerd derisively.
  22. for semi-vocational subjects like Criminal Justice this makes sense but for more pure academic subjects like English, Math and Sociology this makes less sense CCs are usually both vocational and academic institutions so they should be more flexible in their hiring policies.
  23. So if you are now teaching subject X that is not current work experience to teach subject X?
