  1. at my son's (10th grade) B&M charter all 10th and 11th graders take the PSAT My son did the practice test Math sections - one without Calculator - one with There were a couple of tricky questions in the Calculator section but mostly straightforward for reasonably strong math students.

  4. EdX recently started a high school component: https://www.edx.org/high-school-initiative Primarily AP now but they have other courses as well. I believe you would have to create a grading system to supplement and possibly add material to create a HS course. This is mostly HS Junior-Senior level coursework. The price is right - free. PS I have done some of this MOOC since my DS is currently taking PreCalc at his B&M charter. UT.PreC.10.01x Discovery Precalculus: A Creative and Connected Approach Certainly more challenging than a typical HS Precalc class.
  5. from the HS math pinned thread - reminder to all to also look there

  8. 9th - English Language - not usually recommended for first AP - this is somewhat of the standard bearer for comparing students since it has the highest number of test takers. You want a 4 or 5. of course YMMV ============================ "Okay, Seriously, Which AP Classes Are the Hardest? United States History, Biology, English Literature, Calculus BC, Physics C, and Chemistry are often named as the hardest AP classes and tests. These classes have large curriculums, tough tests, and conceptually difficult material." from http://blog.prepscholar.com/hardest-ap-classes-and-tests

  12. When tutoring math make sure you see the "light-bulb" turn on in the student. Don't be afraid to step back to earlier principles and usually walk-through hand drawn graphics helps. Is this one-on-one or group tutoring? good luck
  13. You may want google for AP syllabi as well. Some may have extra fluff.
  14. Not sure what that really means? Any state standards for HS that you could show being fulfilled? I believe in your case forcing the GED is an insult. I assume your DS has good SAT scores etc. I think you are running into one downside of a pure home-schooling experience. It may limit your college choices. You may want to look at this similar thread: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/565404-ny-schools-wanting-proof-of-high-school-diploma/
  15. outside of the northeast ACT only is fairly standard
  16. Any Community Colleges nearby or have online programs? What state are you in so others can help?
  17. Lot's of online college courses available now more in the future. Don't limit yourself to local mediocrity. 12 is too young to worry about college make sure you are on a solid academic path now (honors type classes if possible).
  18. if you don't mind "sweat equity" you can find lots of sheets by searching the web not free about a lot of math teachers use this https://www.kutasoftware.com/free.html I prefer used text books with at least odd anwsers myself

  20. FYI - new SAT has a no calculator Math section along with a calculator-allowed Math section not sure what the proctor procedure is for that.
  21. It seems like the correct choice for this small college probably not for large state U. My local state U just enrolled 8000 freshman!
  22. here is an example MOOC https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-harvardx-cs50x not sure if it would be challenging enough for your student
  23. I suggest Foerster for Precalc after Geometry - look at the pinned HS Math Thread for other suggestions
  24. I guessed that it was old family surname http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=regentrude thanks for the info I certainly didn't think you were a "dude".
