  1. As a foster parent, I truly know how much that means to you. It's wonderful!
  2. Yes, I was told by our school board that my son can participate in any extracurricular activities, so he goes to chess club at the school.
  3. Do any of you pay for a subscription to a worksheet site? I have wasted money on a couple of them, but really need some good worksheets.
  4. Where I live, this is simply a way to include a special friend in the obituary, someone who was close but not a relative of the person. I have always thought it was sweet. Gay partners are identified as "partner."
  5. Hokey Pokey if Shakespeare had written it:http://www.phantomranch.net/folkdanc/articles/hokeypokey.htm
  6. Wondering if you have a chimney it could be using. My kind of funny possum story: a huge male possum was in my hen house one night when my husband was gone. The only weapon available was my target bow (these do not have tips that will do much damage to a possum) so I tried that. After shooting arrows all over the place, none of which phased it, I gave up. The next night I set a trap, caught it, and then...I tried to drown it (sorry) by putting the trap in a garbage can and filling it with water, then putting the lid on. Next day, no possum...so I caught it yet again (can of sardines), but this time I took it five miles away and let it go. I still feel guilty over the drowning attempt. They do look scary and could do some damage with those sharp little teeth, but they do play possum. This one obviously wants something really badly, at it's in the bathroom...soap, toothpaste, toilet paper? I can't wait to find out what happens....
  7. I am so happy that this was cancelled. i spoke with a couple of medical professionals who had never heard of doing a stress test on someone that age, and felt that it would have probably killed her.
  8. I think Monday tackled me. But: Did math, French Revolution, science with K. Went to the bank Bought two pair of really good boy's denim shorts at thrift store for $2 and resisted vintage Mexican tablecloth with six napkins Bought chicken feed, fed hungry chickens Talked to 2 out of 4 daughters on the phone Stayed on my diet Read a chapter in Alexander Hamilton biography Did a couple of loads of laundry, loaded and unloaded dishwasher, swept, cleaned one bathroom, wished for a homeschool janitor That's about it
  9. I am an RN. I can't imagine why anyone would order/require a stress test on someone of your mother's age. It is unlikely to change anything in her treatment, and it certainly could cause heart failure or death. I would absolutely get another opinion. Two in one day is unheard of.
  10. Could it be coming in a heating or air vent some way? That is too weird. I rather like possums, but I would be seriously startled by one in the bathroom. Why the bathroom, anyway....too strange. I would be tempted to stay up all night to find out, or put a game camera somewhere...but where? Keep us posted....
  11. Sorry, I'm bumping this up, but I'm feeling SO much better about this. The Obama sticker said nothing other than Obama 2012. which apparently struck her as deeply offensive. I am enjoying all the gas pump information, too.
  12. I really love all kinds of tea, but my favorite loose, black tea is Brook Bond.
  13. I was afraid I would use up my quota of "likes" liking everyone's response to this. I was truly shocked and upset. I am starting to think I might have been famous for happily pumping my gas. I should have offered my autograph and free tickets to my yard sale.
  14. Yesterday, I was happily pumping gas when the following happened: Lady (stepping about a foot from me): I see you are famous. Me: Whaaat? Lady: Your Obama sticker. Me: What? Lady: I want to encourage you to think about your eternal soul etc. on and on... Me: I want to encourage you to mind your own business. Lady: I thought we were supposed to be our brother's keepers. Me: Speechless...I drove off with my gas cap not on... I know I was a little rude, but I had no idea what to say. How would you have handled this? I am still angry.
  15. I have always used regular, ordinary sand, but over the past few years I have decided it is entirely more trouble for the adults than it is enjoyable for the children, so I have eliminated it. I also felt it wasn't very sanitary for various reasons.
  16. I have no advice because I am still upset over a diorama I couldn't get right in fourth grade.
  17. Oh, how so, so familiar. I had to dismantle my expensive incubators to keep myself from hatching any additional ones.
  18. I am wondering what she is doing, exactly, that is upsetting you on a daily basis.
  19. I bought a non-wireless black and white Samsung printer, an Xpress M2625D. I totally love it. It is fast and cheap, just what I wanted, and the print quality is very good. There is also a default eco setting, which reduces the amount of toner and prints on both sides of the paper.
  20. I would consider it money well spent. You won't remember the expenditure in a few years, and you will have made it up some way, but the memories for her will be priceless.
  21. I liked her story. It was imaginative and flowed well. She spelled once and one correctly, which leads me to believe that she just needs some basic spelling help. Many of the words she misspelled lacked only one or two letters, and all but a couple of things were easily recognizable. Her story made me want to bathe one of my "scunk" dogs. I'll bet she will catch up quickly with some one on one help. I make index cards of the words my son misspells, but I don't correct his creative writing directly. I wait a few days and then I present them as spelling words. He almost always gets them right after that.
  22. Well, she IS a homeschooler, after all. And smart is the new sexy, no matter what you're wearing.
  23. I love trying to imitate Charles Faudree with fleamarket style finds. Does anyone else here like that look? How do you achieve it, if you do?
