  1. I'm doing this right now on the recommendation of Xraven (Veronica) over there in Core E. I'm in Week 13 of Core E and we just read chapter 1 and it was in 1851. Working perfect but we just started it. I didn't want to wait to start SOTW Vol 1 with World History.
  2. I was wondering this too. I have a 9.5 yr old daughter (only child) and based on my original choice of curriculum (Alpha Omega's LifePac) she is in 5th grade. Based on my second and current choice of Curriculum (Sonlight Core E) she could be called 4th OR 5th grade. In Math, she is either Horizons 5th grade or TT Math 7. I say all of that because I have no clue what grade she is in and I just found TWTM. I have chosen to call this 4th grade to line her up on the grammar-logic-rhetoric sequence for history and science. We've done World History for 2nd grade (Core B+C) and them Amer History for 3rd & 4th (Core D & Core E). She'll be lining up perfect come fall in History. I'm tweaking science to get in line for the logic phase. We've done 4 grades of LifePac Science (good but wasn't the most challenging choice). We've also done Apologia Astronomy, Botany and now Flying Creatures. I had planned Swimming Creatures next but realized I have at least 8 months before next year and I could get Physics in here to fit us into the end of the grammar stage correctly. I'm actually pretty excited that it'll be easy to tweak this school year. With Math, I won't be changing. I just moved her to TT and it's a good fit for us right now. For LA, I've started Junior Analytical Grammar. Love that product. Her grasp on LA is good but wanting to push it up a notch and do IEW starting in a few months. I still need to watch those TWSS videos. What's left? Oh yeah. I bought The BigBook of LivelyLatin and my husband and I are actually looking forward to learning this ourselves. I will have her do Latin for about 6 months then start her on Spanish, French or Italian. I'll let her choose. Dad will be taking Spanish. He missed a lot in highschool. Long post, so apologize. Just that sometimes I enjoy reading how others are accomplishing thier homeschool journey. I thought I'd throw mine in. Maybe you can pick one of two of the subjects and get them where you want them then do another set next year. Have a great day! Michelle
  3. We are using Math 7 w/o the CD's because we are truck drivers and our daughter tides with us . Having a computer open just isn't good for us. If she does well, I'll stay with the book only BUT I want the CD 'a for the next stuff so they can explain what was done wrong instead of me.
  4. Thank you for saying this. I like the idea of book reports BUT reading and discussing living books has proven to me that my daughter is grasping the plot and the characters at a depth that I'm impressed with.
  5. I also bought the DVD but for our situation, it's the first time my daughter has had another person (in video) teach any of her subjects. She needs a break from me starting here in 5th grade.
  6. Yes. Mechanics is the second part of JAG.
  7. I'm curious about this too. I just checked out Map Trek and it looks great!
  8. We asked my mom to move in with us 6 yrs ago so that she would be a strong presence in our daughter's life. I know that my mom is my daughter's best friend and for right now, I'm completely ok with that.
  9. We Homeschool an only child (9.5 yr old daughter) on a semi truck. We are gone away from home for up to 9 weeks at a time. When we are home I schedule at least 2-3 opportunities for her to be with other kids like at church and play dates. We started doing this when she was 6 so she hasn't been gone all her life. I believe our kids will be fine with a few good friends that are caring and have good character. It's far better than lots of fly by night, emotionally charged friends that stop liking you because another child said to.
  10. Darn! I bought a Vitamix AND Dehydrator last year. Not because of a forum but because I watched gobs of Juicing videos wanting to get healthy.
  11. I've purchased Junior Analytical Grammar but haven't looked at it yet. Just wanted to put that out there. I'm going to use it with our 9.5 yr old. I've heard great reviews of it from my local mom friends.
  12. This happened to me over in the Sonlight forums this past week. I thought I was the only one.
  13. Thank you for your suggestion. Using our Aircard with our iPad isn't really practical while we are moving. We drive about 20 hrs per day and she's awake for half of that. The signsl isn't always good so. As much as these cellular companies promise great coverage it isn't true.
  14. I can't find any information about changes to IEW. When you write "significantly revised", what does that entail? I want to buy the combo package but necessarily need it until after July. Of course, I love curriculum and am ecstatic to start using IEW and would love to get it now. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
  15. I would live to get feedback in this product. I've purchased Junior Analytical Grammar and then the secondary product called Mechanics. I'm wanting it for my own basic knowledge as well. Our 9 yr old daughter is good but I want to help her be awesome. I've purchased the DVD's as well and it will be our first time using someone as an additional teacher. We don't use or computer much becaus we are team truck drivers that homeschool our daughter on the truck with us full time. We have a computer (laptop) and a portable DVD player but it just hasn't been practical so far. We are planning on making it a practical part of our day though. We plannin doing Teaching Textbooks and IEW within the next 9 months. Thank you for any input. We are Sonlight dedicated but I'm excited about inspirational products that keep it fresh for us.
