  1. I'll be the oddball here because we school year-round. Last year, we started October 1st so I want to be done by Sept 30 this year. I've introduced 4 new subject/curriculum choices last month and so we are all messed up. My goal is to have all of them all wrap up at the same time but she'll get a week off in May, a week off in June and a week off in July for local classes. We are truck drivers (see profile before) and the hotter weather doesn't mean we can spend it outside like if we were at home. Spring and fall are time consumers for us but we take about 8 weeks off total throughout the year.
  2. We just started using it. Up to Lesson 4. I like it because it ties in a Literature references if classic books, dabbles each lesson in a little Spanish and had no written stuff other than a word search. Wait, there are a few questions but we do them orally. We started along side MP Latina Christiana I and my daughter likes the flow of these together. We replaced Wordly Wise and she is very happy. I bought the Implementation Manual. So far I don't see any reason why I needed it. Maybe someone else that's worked longer with it can give a reason to buy it.
  3. I stopped a spelling program when my daughter was in 3rd grade. I wondered if I should start up again because she misspelled a few words in her writing assignment but I figured that I'll use the lists in the MP Literary guides for weekly years and I'll ask her to spell random words in our read-aloud times. It's working. Saves money on Spelling so I can spend it on something else :D
  4. The History Channel has 2 seasons of "How the States got their Shapes". A totally fabulous series. Highly recommend it :)
  5. Thanks ladies! I'm leaning towards more MP. If I buy 10 of them, they are $10 a piece. Then I can use them over the next 2-3 years.
  6. We are using NOEO Physics I and it comes with a lot of little books but no spine. I bought a few to see what I like. I apologize but I haven't read any but wanted to share in case you can check them out at the library. First is John Hudson Tiner's "Exploring the World of Physics" and then there's Joy Hakim's "Story of Sciience" series. I'm using the pink one called "Newton in the Middle", I think. I hope that helps.
  7. Right, if this is working - stick with it. Are you putting it in a binder? I bought a student planner for my 9.5 yr old daughter for a few reasons. First, she knew how excited I was to get a Teacher Planner and I knew she wound love to design her own as well. Secondly, it gives her ownership of her accomplishments. Thirdly, we are always on the road so I can't print anything to give her. We've only used these news products for a month and I'm remembering mine daily but she isn't. It'll take time but I'm glad I did it for our lifestyle situation.
  8. We received a set of kits when we purchased NOEO Physics I from Logos Press (Canon Press) and I like them. It looks like each "bag" comes with 5-10 experiments. I didn't know that. We got 5 "bags " with the curriculum do in thinking we'll be doing more than 5 experiments. :D
  9. Me too! We are doing Life Science next year and now I can use parts of both of his books :D
  10. Yay!!!! EDITED to say: I couldn't wait, I ordered one. I will also be using it as a run along with history :)
  11. I only have experience with one literary guide and it's Memoria Press. I'm enjoying it but have recently been looking at Veritas Press for future product purchased. What's your experience and what would you recommend? Thanks, Michelle
  12. Adobe has pretty good free tutorials in their website for those programs. If he learns the programs well and can handle faster, more adult level of learning, check out www.creativelive.com for classes. The classes are free when they are first broadcast online but then are relatively cheap for the level of education you recieve. I doubt you'll find much in an elementary level but if he learns it now, he'll be sought after by highschool age.
  13. I just perused the Veritas Press catalogue and oh my, it looks great. We are implementing many new things this last month ie: MP's Latin Christiana, IEW SWI-A and continuing with our Sonlight and NOEO Physics I and TT Math 7. So we are moving into more Classical materials. Has anyone used Veritas instead of Sonlight? What's your opinion on that? The books look great. Have you used the Omnibus program? I'm thinking that's a whole other post.
  14. I also looked at these. I loved the idea and bought 2 books that were listed on her site. I didn't buy the plans though because it was a lot of info that in not ready to implement.
  15. This is we are doing. I haven't used MCT for Grammar but we are trying out Ceasar's English I. I know that isn't Grammsr but I agree that HIS way of instruction is way different than JAG/AG.
  16. Look into "Figuratuvely Speaking". I'm on my phone so I can't link it. I found mine on Rainbow Resource that has samples.
  17. We are team truck drivers so I'm positive that there isn't anyone else doing this. My wacky schedule is drive during the time frame of 4:00 pm until 4:00 am. My daughter is awake (most times) from noon until midnight. I read Read-Alouds and spine work from History and Science on any given day. I work with her writing and spelling and math while I'm driving and she's in the passenger seat. She rides with the in-cab light on most of the time doing her work or reading her readers to me. When I need help, my husband will read the spines after I start driving. He drives the opposite 12 hour time frame. When we are at shippers or consignees, we are almost always up together (my husband and I) and it can be any given hour of any given day. That means in reality that we are available 24/7 to the company and school gets done when it's quietest. I've just started implementing video instruction into our school in the end of 4th grade. It's proving to be extremely beneficial and a mental break for me. She plays the videos while I listen while I'm driving.
  18. I've come to this excitement recently as well! I'm now in love with MP, have gained so much confidence that I can create my OWN curriculum that incorporates the Classical Education method and I have the 1999 and 2009 versions of Susan's book. It just gets me so excited. My husband tries to be, he really does but it's not the same as coming on here and chatting with others that FEEL it too.
  19. We have used the Book of Time from Sonlight for the last 3 grades. I don't remember to do it weekly so my daughter colors and colors and colors the stickers over a few days then we insert them in. So, we probably aren't doing it right but it's witches out that way. Question is, are we going to do another timeline book for the (middle school) logic stage and then another one for (high school) rhetoric stage? I don't know if she'll even want to do it in high school. I know there's value in going the timeline but please give your advice. Also, what is best product out there? I don't want a wall timeline because we are on the truck. That Book of Time is the perfect size for us. I saw that MFW has their own and I'm sure other companies have them. What say you? Thanks, Michelle
