  1. I think it could be analogous to an alcoholic vs someone who drinks a lot. Even though the behavior is similar, it's different. The one who drinks a lot can realize that his behavior isn't healthy, set a few goals, and cut back. An alcoholic needs extensive help and support often times giving up control of his life for awhile (rehab) before he gets the situation under control.
  2. I do it in the shower, since I usually shower for 20 min. it works out nicely. I brush after I oil pull. I have found that my teeth are whiter and much cleaner since I started oil pulling.
  3. Yes! It sounds like you did the right thing by having her eat the sandwich. Anorexia starts out with the girl (or boy) in control but quickly spirals to where the disease is the one controlling how much she eats. Even if she wants to eat more she won't because she's not calling the shots anymore. It's a compulsion, and she might need to rely on you or others to help her control that compulsion so her body can get the nourishment it needs and the disease's grip can be loosened. I'm so glad that you are getting help sooner than later. Hugs
  4. That just means that you are pronouncing it the right way!
  5. I think it's darling. How about Cleo Roseanne Lastname?
  6. The Water Babies and Swiss Family Robinson. These are old classics but I found them excruciating because they were written during the time when children's books were only considered worthwhile if they had pages and pages of sermonizing inbetween tiny bits of story. Torturous.
  7. When I first heard the concept that people don't like February I was shocked! It's my favorite. I always deck the house in tons of hearts, leave love messages all around, make sure there are always fresh flowers and chocolates to be found, deliver valentines to the neighbors and dress in pink and red the whole month. I love the fact that its short and sweet. And the gloomy weather makes it all the cosier inside to snuggle up and read, or decorate cookies, or just be together with the people I love. Am I the only one who feels this way?
  8. I love this. 6 year olds can be adorably enthusiastic. I wonder if the teacher was just worried about the backlash she would get from parents who weren't thrilled with their child coming home from school with a scripture verse. Poor thing can't win.
  9. Baby signing time. It's fantastic. She does one called Potty Time that's so helpful in getting the kiddies used to the idea of going in the potty.
  10. I also use myfitnesspal. It's pretty good, and you can't beat the price :D
  11. Well it's hard for me to say because I'm just starting out with my LO. I just try to take it easy and do at least one spanish thing a day whether its reading a book, watching a salsa episode or singing songs. Sometimes we do all three but I'm happy if we just fit one of those in. My favorite books are a series of flap books for toddlers Donde Esta El Gatito? Donde Esta el Perrito? Y ahorra que passara? I also subscribe to Babybug magazine in spanish. I know a lot of Crickets magazines are available in spanish so they'll have magazines for older kids too. When my LO gets a bit older I'm planning on doing this curriculum which focuses on oral skills http://sonrisasspanishschool.com/ And then after that this program http://homeschoolspanishacademy.com/ So I don't know if that's helpful or not. It seems as if we are the only two on this board right now. Best of luck! Let me know how it goes :)
  12. Thanks! We'll see how LO likes it after tax return :)
  13. Hmm am I the first to contemplate purchasing this?
  14. What can you tell me about this program? How does it compare to Whistlefritz or Little Pim?
  15. What about Esperanza Renace by Pam Munoz Ryan or La Casa En Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros? The protagonists are younger but I remember really liking them especially Esperanza Renace.
  16. Tears...in tears! So funny!
  17. I double the cricket magazines. We love them at our house!
  18. Organic Argan oil. Wash face with mild cleanser and apply a drop to moist skin. This also works as a moisturizer. I get mine from amazon
  19. You're right, calling it a placebo is a label. Saying that it doesn't deserve to be called holistic medicine, is a slam.
  20. Does it really need to be slammed? I've had it work for me when traditional meds left me wanting. Why not just let bygones be bygones?
  21. By. "Westernized Medicine" I don't mean "came from the west" but the standard way we treat illness. Generally homeopathy falls under the holistic umbrella, definitely under the Alternative Medicine umbrella.
  22. I've experienced a lot of health benefits from both homeopathy and essential oils. I'm not sure that I could tell you the science behind them though. There is a huge gap between westernized medicine and wholistic medicine so unless you get a biochemist who is open to wholistic medicine you will probably get arguments on why its not real. ETA Calling Homeopathy a placebo is more of a dismissal than a statement of fact. Because one person conducts experiments on one person (himself) does not prove any point. A comprehensive double blind experiment with only half of the participants receiving any benefits would point to placebo. This (to my knowledge) has never happened, which is what I mean when I say there is a huge gap between the two systems of thought. It's easy to dismiss the other side but unless there are some actual studies done its just conjecture.
  23. That sounds a lot like me, I lived with those symptoms for years, before I got diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia ( too much of the hormone prolactin in my blood) and prolactinoma (a pituitary tumor). This is easily treated with meds. ETA the medication for this is a class c drug which I refused to take while I was pregnant or nursing. So I found natural ways to manage this condition. If this is the issue I would be happy to share what has worked for me.
