  1. You may also want to look into Hoffman Academy. Online and free!
  2. For second grade English we do spelling, writing, grammar, handwriting.
  3. Normally a lesson is not intended to be completed in a day.
  4. I normally start once phonics instruction has ended.
  5. I agree with the above reasons for the standards version. It also has full color text books just in case that appeals to your kids.
  6. No worries. Just wanted to post how they many times a week they are intended to be used.
  7. I don't see why there would be any overlap. WWE is writing, FLL is grammar, and RLTL is spelling. Also, to clarify the above statement about wwe/fll, wwe had a four day schedule and fll is intended to be used about three days a week. Neither are scheduled for five days.
  8. I also recommended OPGTR. Short lessons, some "fun" games or other little things added in to make it interesting, and most important effective. I also own PP and while the words are bigger it doesn't have the fun little games sprinkled in.
  9. I like OPGTR, but from what you have I'd say phonics pathways. I also do not think ETC would be nessesary to do along with it for learning to read.
  10. We are really liking New American Cursive.
  11. Thanks for all the advice! I think I will just stick to what we've been doing since it has been working well and they are easy to tweak into what we need/want.
  12. I think maybe *I'm* just getting bored with the writing and am wanting something more creative? Or not really sure because I do like the methodology behind WWE. Okay, that's true AAS is very easy to speed up and slow down. We've just been going through so fast and hardly spend anytime on the lessons I started worrying about what would happen when it does become more challenging.
  13. For third grade writing I was thinking about moving on from WWE. While I like it and think it's been working great I'd like something else. Should I just stick with it or switch to W&R, TC, IEW theme book, etc? For spelling we use AAS and I like that as well, but I feel like it doesn't give enough practice for the words. For now she finds all the words easy and can spell with with no problems, but I feel like once we hit words that are challenging there won't be enough practice with them. Does it seem like enough practice? I do like the dictation and that it focuses on the rules. Maybe I just want a change but should stick to what we have?
  14. I started my kids with fll and wwe in 1st and so far plan to do the same with my youngest. I think it was a great start and not too over whelming. AAS is not at all independent, but the lessons are pretty quick for us.
  15. If that's what works for her and you then I think you should keep going with it. Sometimes we used the letter tiles just because my kids love them sometimes we just used a white board because I didn't want to get the letter tiles out. I think it's definitely more than okay to adjust things to work best for you and your child that's what great about homeschooling you don't have to stick to exactly how the guide tells you to do things you can't adjust things to fit your child while still having that as a backbone for your lessons.
  16. Bumping, hoping for some suggestions.
  17. Is there a science program that is meaty enough for upper elementary/middle school but has assignments for the younger students as well? I'm thinking kind of similar to the way MOH works.
  18. The reason I finally had her do the assessment is because she is so bored with PM and doesn't like it anymore. She gets excited when it goes over new multiplication/divivison facts, but that's it. She even has flown through CWP.
  19. I actually the 3A set on hand. I think I may add it it in slowly and see if it seems like it would be a good fit before ditching PM. Thanks for the advice!
  20. My daughter is only in second grade (a young second grader at that), but she is naturally very math minded. She just gets math, always has, and loves it. She does it for fun. We've been using Primary Mathmatics and I love it. I think it is a great solid program, but I feel like my daughter needs something more advanced/challenging. I had her take the placement test for BA and she passed it. Only missed one. Now, would it make sense to move her into Beast at this point or wait till third grade? Stay with Singapore all together? I prefer just one full curriculum and supplementing with other things, so I wouldn't want to do both programs, just personal preference.
  21. Yes, I did the same with my oldest and regret it. Now I take my time and not rush through or keep piling on just because they're capable of doing it.
  22. Honestly, I think 5 is quite young to be doing two math programs and two word problem books even if she is capable of it. Just because a child is capable doesn't mean they should necessarily do something. Why not take that time and pursue one of her personal interests even if it's not math related or school related? Or why not take that time to play math games to ensure she understands just how addition and subtraction work and why they work that way then work on fluency/memorization of the math facts. But if you are certain you want another word problem book then I'd suggest CWP.
  23. Thanks! I actually have some of these.
