  1. I knew it was coning, but am so incredibly sad. She was a true force of nature. Her contributions to Bipoc visibility and her amazing work with Nasa were so important. I saw her at a couple of different conventions many years ago. She was an inspirational speaker and so funny. Her autobiography, Beyond Uhura, is also a fascinating read. Hers was a life well-lived, but her loss is hard to bear. I’m thinking a lot about her family, especially her son tonight.
  2. Yup. I do okay once I fall asleep. 2:30 here. Have to at least lay in bed now because my daughter will keep waking up to find me. At least she is cozy. Her deep sleep is calming and then Last night she sleep-chuckled in my ear.
  3. My kids love these suction spinners https://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/fat_brain_toy_co/whirly_squigz.cfm
  4. Thanks @Xahmthat does make me feel more confident
  5. @Farrar I haven’t heard anything about age of immune system before. Do you have any links handy that would teach me more about this please? Thanks
  6. My son turns 5 in September. He is in the 95 percentile for height and weight. I talked to our pediatrician's nurse line about having him receive the dose for 5-12 year olds (Moderna). She said they only go by age requirements. I have him and his three year old sister scheduled for their vaccines on July 10th. However, he would only be receiving .25 (two shots Moderna) versus the .5 (two shots Moderna). I would think that it would be better for him to wait until he could receive the larger dose, but I don't know enough about vaccinations, and specifically COVID vaccinations to know if this it correct. Would it be better to wait? Do I do it in two weeks and then try the larger booster in 5 months? What offers him more/the most protection? We have been extremely COVID cautious. No day care, inside restaurants, very rarely have they even been in a store. Outdoor preschool was masked. So far, unless asymptomatic, we have avoided COVID. I'm torn. I was really excited about getting them vaccinated soon.
  7. I can understand yhat, but it isn’t improbable that the child is having trouble at school too. This would be more of an impetus to find help. And again, at least around here, the schools have more resources for the kid than the police.
  8. At least around here the police wouldn't do much, if anything, until the child was 13. You could call CPS but they have a lot on their plate and lately it has to be pretty bad for them to intervene (unless the family is BiPOC). Does your son attend the same school as this child? Do you know the school he attends? If so, I would contact them. They should have a school counselor or vice principal - someone who is involved with discipline or can find resources through the school. The school counselors around here often run friendship or other social skills group. Some schools even have a social worker (around here) if the school has a certain amount of low-income students. Our school offered some various parenting classes (and dinner to tempt them). Hopefully the school might be offer child and/or family with some wrap around services. If not, they have notice that a child at their school has threatened other children with a weapon. They have a vested interest in knowing that...especially now.
  9. Hoping your kids are doing better today. Thinking of you all.
  10. @Faith-manor@Acadieso sorry you both are going through such difficult times.
  11. Thank you. I had a note to come back to this thread to make sure this stuff was mentioned. I won't use any of their stuff. Racist bulls-t covered by pretty colors. And yeah, the stuff about kids not using black crayons is true and the little kids aren't supposed to use plastic toys. Natural wood only.
  12. Ah, thanks. I thought it was a farm bird but couldn’t remember which one.
  13. I haven’t seen it but read a review that said a lot of tension between Maverick and Goose’s son - Robin? - some other bird - due to his being blamed for Goose’s death. I imagine a lot of father-son or father-figure-son tension which might be hard for him.
  14. That’s fantastic news! Congratulations!!
  15. That’s more satisfying. He can round down to a decade but that additional 2.5 yrs., 730+ days will feel especially long
  16. I tutor and have an Occasional request for a free trial lesson. I simply say no. Whether a free trial lesson is common in some areas is irrelevant to me. My time is worthwhile. They can certainly have a trial lesson, but they need to pay for it.
  17. Yuck. Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon
  18. How awful for her and the rest of your family. So sorry for the domino-ing health crises. You too @Kassia. Healing thoughts to both.
  19. What a terrible shock. So very sorry for your loss.
  20. So sorry about your mom Arcadia. Safe and swift travels.
