  2. Happy Birthday, Enjoy your day with your loved ones and many many more to celebrate in future. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
  3. Dumb question, waht does this topic means?? I am not sure.
  4. So many great books to read, no enough time to read them. I have added this book in my list and hopefully read soon :)
  5. Sorry for this silly question, but why would she need extra money???
  6. Actually I should have been more clearer. He is good with English...but the problem is with home lang1 which he is introduced from day1. He gets confused to use the right grammar and adds an ing for our lang word...Atleast now it is getting better to use complete word without ing...when he was around 3 to 4 yrs old...almost all words had an ing at the end. I have started to read books in home lang and watch movies/listen songs in home lang (satrted recently) Hoping this would help him. And he is going to India for a short vacation during holidays and I hope his langage gets better as he can't talk in Eng with his relatives. Thier school dos have ESL, I would talk to them. Thansk for your reply Beishan and OhElizabeth.
  7. I had emailed my son's Dr and asked to refer for Speech-Language pathologist. But she tells they do have only for English and Spanish. Any idea whom to contact (outside my health insurance) for lang1 issues?? Thanks for all your help.
  8. As I mentioned, it is the problem with me too....I just can't see someone into their eyes, I have been observing myself from few years and I think I dont remember I did it even as a kid. Whereas I see my DD most of the time looking into someone's eyes while talking. I think I also need to take an evalution done...
  9. This is one reason, I am scared as when I was a kid, I excelled instudies in my elementary and by the time I came to middel and high school. It was getting bad. I defintiely dont want my kids to suffer like me. When my kids get thier reports from their teacher, I always pray let it be the same throughout thier student life as I know how each passing year changed me. As suggested maybe I will talk to a NP and start working on thsi better than late. Thank you.
  10. SandyKC : Thank you, I am looking for SLP in our health insurance. OneStepAtATime : Thank you, I have got the book "Mislabeled child" which you had suggested in other thread. But I hope I can read more which his not happening. Thanks for the details about Neuro-psyciatrist.
  11. We are non Catholic (Hindus) and our kids go to Chirstian school (not sure if Catholic and Chirstians are same, sorry about this) We just want them to be better and good humans in life which we think any religion tries to teach, maybe in different terms and logics. We do talk about our culture at home and they are learning about Bible stories from school.
  12. I just loved this topic...though my kids aren't teens (few more years to go) I will ask them and get back. Can't wait to go home and ask them.
  13. Hearty Congrats for your DS. I kno you are a proud mom. May god bless him with good success all his life. Congrats to you too :hurray:
  14. I read the other thread" I got the go ahead from dh to pursue a neuro-psych eval for ds9" I have my own doubts?? I am not sure if I need to go for any learning disabilities check done for my son(7 yrs old, would be 8 in 2/14). After reading all the posts in this thread, I feel few of them similar to how he is.... OR maybe I am just worrying too. Since most of you have told to get a kid evaluated which is best to know the child's issues which we think it might be normal or some strong points too. I had raised this once with my DH and he tells I worry a lot and someone told us that going to psychiatric would be a black spot in his life. To start off, I am not sure who to contact first. To even go to that far, I am not sure if my son falls in that zone. He is good boy(which all mom's feel for their kids)he is good at math. His reading is OK...He has improved in his AR reading level from 2.6 to 3.0 in 2.5 months of school. But refuses to read at home and most of the times skips/swallows any word which is difficult in pronunciation. He can remember names well. He does get confused with the sounds of j and g(juice as mentioned) but eventually get it right after repeated asking him to sound. His writing is good but when he wants to write a story kind..initially his writing is very neat and by the time he reaches the end..its not very neat when compared to start, but still readable(lots of spelling mistakes though) He is pretty active boy, plays most of the time and he goes to soccer. He likes playing soccer but is afraid if the ball comes and hits him in face or chest(he has seen few of this team mates hurt) This is one reason he is always in the group but never tries to kick the ball first. (we don't practice much, its only one practice session and one game session in a week from the team, which last for 3 months the rest 9 months no much soccer at all) Most of the time, I see he doesn't look in the eyes when talking(for that matter even I have the same problem)I just cant look into someone's eyes and talk for a long time, maybe for few seconds. There are few people whom I totally avoid looking into their eyes, I am basically scared. As I mentioned earlier, we don't talk English at home and we talk 2 languages (me and DH lang1, grandparents lang2) Its been 7 years that he is growing with lang1 all of the time(at least at home). He still doesn't get the words properly now. At times he mixes few words from lang2 also. When he has to talk...he tries to use Eng a lot since he is going to school now. Earlier his lang1(when no exposure to ENg) was not great even at age 4. Most of our friends couldn't understand what he spoke even though they knew the lang1. He cant sit in a place for long time. His teacher also told that he is carried off in his own world most the time during the class. It happens to him at home too.But can sit for hrs together if he likes to something like lego, knex etc.. Long drives are also very bad with him, he gets frustrated after 1.5 or 2hrs. his sister who is 5 yrs old doesn't mind. I am just giving most details which I think should be know so that anyone can recommend exactly as what I need to do.So may need more practice like soccer.Does he have any learning disabilities which I might not be aware. Or as my DH said I am worrying too much for him. Please advice and thanks for all your help.

  16. I love to read but I find it hard to get time with work and kids. I try to scroll few pages... Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting Its a great book.
  17. Very sorry for the loss. I pray to god to give your family to give loads of strength to overcome this huge loss. :grouphug:
  18. Sorry for a silly question... when you mention your kids re read-read aloud books, my I know if you have those books at home all time(like books bought, gifted)??? what do you do if you borrow the books like me from library?? Just curious..
  19. Count down started for end date of job :(

  20. Please don't lose your hope. He is a great kid, but just undergoing too many changes for his age. I am really not very experience as others here who have given lots of ideas as how to overcome your issue. But you are doing a great job bringing up your kids on our own. They will be proud of you. Its just that a bad time, which will pass over. My hugs to you and your little family.
  21. MistyMountain : thank you fro your words. Pen: Sure each kid is different. I will try to find the CD in our libraries. Thank you. whitehawk : Thank you...
  22. Pen: Yes, the other thread was also by me. As I mentioned that post too my kids don't have too many activities. My elder one is 7 and goes sleep by sometime b/w 9-9.30 and gets up by 7.30.. My younger one is 5 and she doesnt sleep at 9 or 9.30(since she had a nap at school) My DH is not an early sleeper like me and he would be working. So the problem is she know her dad is awake and pretends to sleep with me but again up and gone to her dad. Her dad puts her to sleep at 10 or 10.30(depending on his work) and we wake her at 7.30...but she would get up by 7.50... SKL, regentrude : thank you, I am sure its in their genes.... SparklyUnicorn: I have got these remarks form my childhood from many people(I never bothered about them), but this was someone from the family..who knows me, my DH and my kids and the way my kids are always running around..
