  1. That's terrifying! Did you have trouble sleeping after that happened to you? I was too little to remember this happening, but my mom told me about the time some man came to the door late one night. He said something like "I'm here for the kid", but it was a father who ended up at the wrong address instead of the babysitter's house.
  2. I can't imagine how frightening that must have been!!! We woke up one night to a guy trying to get into our backyard...we keep our gate locked but he kept reaching over to try to open it not realizing there was a lock on it. He was either having mental health problems or he was high on something given the way he was talking. We were upstairs and had called the police, but my husband opened the window and firmly told him that the police were on the way. And then the guy just sat down on our steps and waited. And the officers talked to him and I think they put him in their car without any problem (it happened a long time ago). Maybe they had dealt with him before and knew where he lived?
  3. It was almost 4:30 am and I was startled awake by the banging sound. Then I realized that it wasn't our door, and I ran over to the window to see where the sound was coming from. My first thought/worry was for an elderly neighbor who lives alone, but his porch light was on and no one was there. Then I figured out it was the house next to us, where there had been a very loud party of young people going on when I went to bed. But all the lights were off, even their porch light so I couldn't see anything. But now there was a male voice calling out but I couldn't understand what he was saying, and I couldn't see him. Then he started banging on a window. I thought maybe there had been a guest passed out in the front yard and now he had come to and wanted to get in to claim his booze backpack or something. For a moment I thought about opening the window to tell him to be quiet, but decided that was a bad idea. I would wait, and if I heard any glass breaking then I'd call the police. Someone must have let him in because all the noise stopped over there, but I couldn't get back to sleep because of the adrenaline. My heart had been pounding, so now I'm lying there and all I can think of is the blood pressure PSA on the radio where the people tell you what their blood pressure was right before they had a stroke or cardiac arrest. And my family slept through it all! Then this afternoon I read a horrible story in the local news. In another city, a homeowner woke up to someone banging on his back door around 4am Saturday morning, and he thought he was trying to break in. The homeowner called the police, but then he took his gun and went outside. told the guy he had a gun and to leave. But the guy started to come at him so the homeowner shot him and he died at the scene. According to the article, this was a teen who had attended a graduation party on Friday night. I wonder if he was too drunk to get home and ended up at this other home by mistake?
  4. Oh I realize that. But I couldn't help an initial sick feeling of deja vu...or more specifically, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/02/17/nih-disease-official-anthony-fauci-risk-of-coronavirus-in-u-s-is-minuscule-skip-mask-and-wash-hands/4787209002/
  5. I feel sorry for your daughter. I'm old, but it was never considered a bad thing when a young woman was "working to put her husband through medical school" or something. But in this situation it seems that this is his parents' biggest objection. Maybe they haven't come right out and told him "Why educate a cow when you can get the milk for free", but that's what I hear from your description. However, if he's not currently working as a welder and his parents are supporting him, then I apologize and instead would say he needs to get off his butt and get a job before getting engaged.
  6. You might want to go to you tube and take a look at the TMJ videos by physical therapists Bob and Brad. Let's see if this link will work: https://www.youtube.com/user/physicaltherapyvideo/search?query=tmj I hope you find something that helps!
  7. She seems to be the Rona Barrett of the celebrity world of fundamentalist Christians. I watched a few of her you tube videos after she was mentioned in another thread recently. I don't think I'll be watching her anymore, though. Mostly I have been watching the recent JD crime-related videos, but last night she was talking about one of the Bringing Up Bates sons who got engaged. I suddenly felt really uncomfortable to be sitting there listening to her speculate about whether the couple has already been kissing before marriage. For some people who call these families fertility cults, etc. it seems equally problematic that they're so obsessed with their intimate behavior...to the point of prurient interest one might say.
  8. Hiatal hernia? https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hiatal-hernia/symptoms-causes/syc-20373379 I hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad that you'll be able to see your doctor.
  9. If Wikipedia is correct, some of their funding comes from the NIH. Maybe the Salk Inst. loses funding if they don't include the part about safely. It seems every message during the pandemic must include "SAFE", whether it is or not, so I pretty much ignore it at this point.
  10. I'm really low-tech. Before asking my son if he could take a picture I decided to do a search for "Boys Town cardboard coasters", and that brought me to e bay! People are actually trying to sell these charity coasters on e bay! You could use anything, but I like that I can lean them up against something and they don't get knocked over by a breeze. Anyway, I like the bird designs but these are really not anything fancy at all, but you're welcome to go to e bay and take a look.
  11. Boys Town helps this old girl get things done everyday! My husband sends them money and then gives me the free "thank you" gifts that they send to him. I'm always looking forward to the collection they send him around December: Big Calendar: I keep this by the desk area but you've already got this covered. Purse-sized calendar: I keep this in the kitchen along with a little clipboard and 5x7 lined mini-legal pads for my daily to-do's. (What I'm cooking for dinner goes on this list, too.) Planner Calendar: This is used to record "what I cooked for dinner". I don't do future planning in it, just what we ate so I can keep track of the leftovers in the refrigerator and not give anyone food poisoning. Cardboard coasters: (These have pretty designs like birds!) They are my visual reminders to help me keep track of chores in-process, etc. I use Sharpie pens to write recurring chores that I have to remember to finish (my house is pretty chaotic most of the time). I have a place on the counter (near my mug) so I'll be sure to see the current card(s)! Some of my card collection: "Put laundry in dryer", "Unplug trickle charger", "Pill Pocket" (cat's pill), etc. Sometimes I have more than one card on the counter at a time but it's not usually more than 1 or 2 at a time since I have to shuffle the deck throughout the day and deal out new cards. My oven has two timers so I always use timer 2 for chores...for example I'll set it as soon as I put in a load of laundry so I don't forget to put it into the dryer. Between the timer and my pretty bird cards I can still get things done in a timely manner amid the chaos!
  12. Not to mention cows looking for greener pastures! (I couldn't resist.) You're so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
  13. I just read this Daily Mail headline: "Times Square gunman who shot three innocent tourists is arrested eating fries in his SUV at a Florida McDonald's 'after the car RAN OUT OF GAS due to Colonial Pipeline fuel shortage"
  14. For now, let's call her Dolly, and let's hope she didn't go through Rachel Lynde's cabbage patch on her way to your place!
  15. Thank you for letting me know. I'm not putting it full-strength into my eyes...I'm adding water/lathering a small amount in my hands and then washing my face, but I will discontinue.
  16. I would do a search for "SIRVA" This is an article I've read about SIRVA, but not related to the Moderna/covid shots. The injury happens when a shot isn't done properly. https://www.pharmacytoday.org/article/S1042-0991(17)31503-7/pdf I hope you can see your doctor soon.
  17. I had been using creepy in a more generic way, too. However, after hearing Sean Hannity refer to Pres. Biden as "creepy Uncle Joe" for months on end that's the more specific meaning/type of behavior I associate the word with now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSSMG0MaEnQ
  18. The motion I saw was Jack LaLanne knee bends, not Elvis moving his pelvis. But we can agree to disagree.
  19. I can't believe I just watched this scene on you tube (the tater tot casserole person's video). To be precise, JB says this to M after she had complimented him "You're really good at this game" after he hit the ball. That's when he said the part about does it turn you on (as in, are you attracted to a jock like me) He wasn't touching her or anything when this exchange happened. When he starts helping her with her swing...I didn't see what others are seeing . More contact than a "side hug" and not something he wants the boyfriends trying with his daughters. But I did find it juvenile, and I think M is right that he likes to show off to the young couples. I
  20. The Daily Mail has an article about the couple who are taking JD into their home. Their 22yo daughter teaches piano lessons at the home. It sounds like she is unmarried since the article noted that their son is married...wouldn't this mean that the daughter is living with them, not just coming over when she's teaching? I thought that single adult daughters remained with their parents? I don't understand how a man can knowingly bring someone like JD into the home where his wife and probably his daughter are living! And it sounds like the judge was only concerned about what kind of internet connection they have and removing guns from the home. I'm scared for these women. JD is a big guy, and I saw their photos...they're petite. And now apparently unarmed.
  21. You're probably right. And I wouldn't want the other inmates who are there for other types of crimes to be forced to have these people around them.
  22. I don't think they are held in high esteem by other prison inmates either.
  23. I agree with you! I saw something disturbing last night. After reading what Faith Manor wrote, I did a search for Mike Huckabee and ATI. The very first thing that showed up was the IBLP website's prison ministry! I guess that organization is everywhere, so even if JD gets more of the same training or whatever it's called in prison at least he won't have access to children.
