  1. I read this on the Fox News website: The jury found Smollett guilty on the first five counts and was found Not Guilty on charge #6 –aggravated battery, wearing a hood or mask to conceal his identity – after a contentious week of witness testimony, counsel arguments and deliberation.
  2. Will he be held in a more isolated area of the jail for his protection? I hope so, but not because I care what happens to him. I'm worried that he'll start some fake Bible study/prison ministry and the other men will be indoctrinated.
  3. I've watched a house tour video on you tube, and it doesn't look like this is possible. There's a small prayer room between the parents' room and the girls' bedroom so it doesn't seem like the rooms are connected. The boys' room is, however, is on the other side of a catwalk from the parents' and girls' bedrooms. It's awful to watch the video now knowing what he did to his sisters.
  4. If this is used as a changing table, isn't it wider than it is tall? When is he trying to climb up...when he needs a change? Could you put a stepstool next to it so he won't try to pull out the drawers and climb up that way, if that's what he's doing? I'm not saying you couldn't secure it to the wall, but I'm also not sure how he would tip over a wide/low dresser as opposed to a tall chest of drawers?
  5. I understand this because this is my life with my daughter...and she's 24! She has high functioning autism, and your description of "talking to the wind" fits her perfectly as well. My dh thought I was crazy when I asked him to put a locking doorknob on the linen closet, but I won. She not only takes clothes with abandon, but towels, too, if given the opportunity. I used to have some wash cloths in a bathroom drawer but had to move them because she would put wet ones back into the drawer. The next locking doorknob is going to be on her bedroom door...to lock her OUT during the day, not to imprison her!!! She doesn't have any interest in being in her room during the day except for throwing clothes/socks around, and sometimes shoes (so there's a quilt covering her window to hopefully protect the glass if she flings a shoe off her foot in that direction. ) I'll be reading the replies, too, because if there's a better way, I'm all ears. I don't expect perfection in tidiness by any stretch of the imagination, but I also do not want to live in chaos and with a higher water bill than I already have because of a gazillion wet towels. Good luck, Dawn. I'm sorry I don't have a better suggestion.
  6. Reminds me of a song: "I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad."
  7. Our school had a huge dumpster so my friend and I had to climb into it to look for her retainer, and we found it! She had put it on her lunch tray and forgot about it being there until later that day. At least it was near the top and we didn't have to dive too deep!
  8. I was stunned reading your description so I looked online for the videos. Where did you see the videos, because the two that I saw don't look at all to me like what you're describing. Not at all. Anna is wearing heels. She didn't look like she was in pain to me, FWIW, just walking not very gracefully. To me, she didn't look like she was struggling at all to walk up the stairs, and was putting her hand lightly on her creepy husband's back. But I didn't see anyone dragging her along the way you describe. I didn't see the door closing in her face either time. When they entered the building, one man (an a$$hat?) held open the door for the entire group. When they were leaving, it looked to me like it was a different doorway, the door was narrow, and as each person walked out they seemed to be carefully holding it open until the person behind could take hold of it. The video I watched showed the car they were walking to, but they went to the other side to get in so I couldn't see anyone opening a door. I'm not nominating JD for father or husband of the year by any means. But let me know where you watched the videos that match your description above.
  9. I'm sorry! I was only trying to say that if the stigma is removed there's no telling what some of these so-called experts will try to get funding for in the name of research and treatment. I didn't mean that you would support anything like that.
  10. I'm afraid of what treatment may look like if there's no more stigma! The professor quotes other academics who are suggesting that child p-graphy could be a substitute for "actual victims". If these aren't live children, but are cartoon characters, is that supposed to be acceptable? And what if real children's photos are being used and these academics don't even consider them to be victims???? I don't want my tax dollars going to research projects to find out what kind of pictures they like best and then paying for their "therapy" materials!!!
  11. Earlier today I was reading an article at the Daily Mail website about a professor at Old Dominion University who believes that we should be calling pedophiles "MAPs" instead so as not to stigmatize them. MAP= minor-attracted person I immediately thought of JD when I was reading the article, and the professor even writes about how child p o r n should be available to MAPs as some kind of harm reduction strategy!!! I'm sickened to know that this garbage has been published in a book! JD (and anyone like this) doesn't deserve dignity or a fancy new name like MAP, and I hope he gets what he deserves in this world and the next.
  12. If they smell like corn chips to you, read this: https://www.rd.com/article/why-dog-smells-like-corn-chips/ Have you tried putting some scented cream under your nose? Would it help you to chew peppermint gum to block the dog smell? Good luck!
  13. Thank you for the warning! I've just spent 14 minutes on the phone, mostly on hold, trying to find out if the yellow onion I bought on Saturday might be part of this recall. I said I wanted to know if their yellow onions are imported from Chihuahua Mexico by ProSource Inc. She said she couldn't connect me with anyone in the produce department because they're busy, and then she told me she walked over to the produce dept. and "Our onions don't have a recall sign on them." Somehow she didn't reassure me. I'm not eating that onion, which is too bad because I haven't bought an onion in a long time since I can't cook with them due to some in the family with digestive issues. It figures that there's a recall right after I buy one. Thanks again. I don't need salmonella.
  14. This probably doesn't help at all, but the instructions that you're describing sound somewhat less disgusting than what I've had to do to collect samples from my child. I had to use a spoon-like thing to dig down in several areas of the sample to remove chunks to put into collection containers that had some kind of fluid in them. And shake well. I'm a squeamish person but managed to do this without losing my stomach contents. The suggestion to use something like Vicks is a good one! I used something perfume-y. It's good that you don't have to take the sample to the lab. I had to drive a fresh sample to a hospital lab one time...it either had to be fresh or refrigerated, and there was NO WAY that I could put it in my refrigerator or even a cooler. Another time, we had a number to call for pick-up by DHL, I think. I was very careful to keep the outer packing material free from any possible "sample" contamination by washing my hands really well after handling the containers, etc. But it was still gross to watch the man take the package from our porch, get into his vehicle and put the package on his lap while he was drinking something before driving away. Good luck! I'm sorry you have to do this, but thank goodness your neighbor has someone to help him. (Hopefully he's fine and his dr. won't order a colonoscopy next as the prep could be a more messy/smelly ordeal than the paint-a-square!)
  15. I'm also a light sleeper, and I find an alarm clock very jarring. I prefer to wake up to music, but because my daughter messes with my alarm clock on a regular basis I'm using a travel alarm clock right now and I hate it! My first thought is that your alarm clock is triggering your fight or flight response, and this is causing the sweating on awaking. I just searched for info on this, and the term they used is hyperhidrosis: https://stanfordhealthcare.org/medical-conditions/skin-hair-and-nails/hyperhidrosis/hyperhidrosis-causes.html
  16. Armadillo Professional Home Inspections Let Matt do the digging around for you.
  17. Fish oil/omega 3 and Vitamin E have a blood thinning effect for me, too. And I've just recently discovered that quercetin does this as well.
  18. Thank goodness your son is safe! I'm so sorry you had to wait for that good news, though! It must have been awful. Our local news covered the story, and they had video from Snapchat that was taken at the gathering before the shooting. The kids looked like they were packed in like sardines for some kind of dance? The university claims: " "It's a common gathering spot for unplanned student events," said Welsh. He also said that the gathering at the time of the shooting was not a university sanctioned or approved event." Do they have campus police to break up large groups on campus in the middle of the night? I don't know what the campus is like and whether this area is near the dorms, but it must have been loud with that many people. (I have no idea what caused the change in font size! I would never have minimized my concern for you and your son!!!)
  19. I might have been listening to the same radio program. I don't know if we define profanity the same way, but the guy I was listening to yesterday was, to put it mildly, really ripping Pres. Biden a new one. Then the show suddenly went off the air for awhile. The local affiliate put on a "best of" show from their local morning host until the technical difficulties were resolved. I wondered at the time if the FCC had pulled the plug , but now I know it was the Big Guy (God, not Hunter's Dad).
  20. The bonding could backfire. It did for me when this happened to me in high school. The other girls "kidnapped" us from our classrooms, so at least it wasn't in the middle of the night! We were driven around to other houses, blindfolded (with a kotex pad in a nylon stocking) the entire time, and made to do things like eat mystery foods that were fed to us on spoons, made to crawl through vacant lots, etc. I was so upset by what was happening that I said I was unwell and needed to go home. Thank goodness my mother picked me up at one of the homes so I never found out what other bonding/fun activities were going to happen later. I quit the group shortly after this lovely initiation because I really hated the girls who did this to us, and I had no desire to spend any more time with them. If humiliating others is considered fun, goodbye! Maybe the girls at your daughter's school really have only fun activities planned, but unfortunately I've lost trust in people doing/meaning what they say. And for sure, I would tell your daughter all about it ahead of time! And I would have no part in letting people "break into" my house in the middle of the night to "kidnap" my kid. NO WAY should this be promoted as a fun/acceptable activity!!!
  21. I thought you were going to say that you gave the cat a bath and lived to tell about it! I'm sorry about the insurance situation. Our "good" eye place no longer accepts what they had called our "good" insurance, so now I'm dreading having to break in a new eye dr. for my daughter who is not always the easiest patient to deal with. It would be so much easier to just keep going there and pay out of pocket, but I think I'd have better luck bathing our cat than breaking the news to my dh!
  22. A local radio host read a letter on his show this morning that was written by two US veterans as if they are the Taliban. (I've never heard of their company before, but the CEO is a combat veteran who was in Afghanistan.) "If the Taliban were to write a letter to America, it would likely look something like this." https://www.combatflipflops.com/blogs/combat-flip-flops/written-in-taliban
  23. I would look at things like a child's china set or maybe a baby's first Christmas ornament from Lenox. Here are some cute Beatrix Potter sets from Wedgwood: https://www.wedgwood.com/en-us/collections/all-collections/peter-rabbit?showAll=true If you want a more practical gift, I think Hanna Andersson pajamas would be nice for the birthday or get a Christmas print. And maybe a bedtime storybook to go with it? For wedding gift ideas...that's harder for me, but money in any form would be very generous and I'm sure appreciated. I might get them "his and hers" aprons. Do they have a wedding registry somewhere? If so, I would do a gift card. It's not as much fun to shop for big people!
  24. I'm not BlsdMama, but I find this rather insulting. Would you also say that the primate center doesn't experiment on monkeys, they experiment with monkeys? I really don't understand how the word choice here makes any difference in the life (or death) of the subject, but I'm not a scientist.
  25. For all we know, the parent might have been led to believe that her child is the subject but the experimenters could be studying her...how much will a parent allow her child to be subjected to in the interest of science.
