  1. My Dad was adopted, and his parents had given him a book called "The Chosen Child", or something along those lines, and told him how special he was because they got to pick him. He got into trouble at school for telling the other children how special he was because his parents got to pick him and how their parents were stuck with them, LOL : 0
  2. I have always struggled with a prayer life. Now, I find myself at a point where I know I am stuffing my feelings and not dealing with them, and as a Christian, I know I should be communicating with God about these things. However, when I pray, I become extremely distracted and wind up completely off-track. I was thinking today, that for some reason I would find it easier to pray in a written form...like writing a letter to God. Does that count? Is it un-biblical in some way? I was thinking that a lot of the Psalms are like written prayers.... Interested in different thoughts on this.... Dawn
  3. Love this take on it! I remember hearing a woman speaking about how one could contribute financially to the family in an offensive way (working, bringing in income) or defensively (coupons, budge, buying used.)
  4. Just listening in as well...I need some books for my dd's Christmas list!
  5. Good to hear! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of WWE in our mailbox.
  6. Unfortunately, I have some experience in this area. My insurance denied to continue covering my daughter's tube feedings a few years ago. First thing...they deny stuff to find out who is willing to roll right over and take it. They save a lot of $$ that way, simply because people won't fight them. Don't be that person. I wrote a lengthy letter, making it obvious that I wasn't some dingy idiot...I explained my child's history and diagnosis and the connection to the treatment. I obtained and attached related medical records. I got letters from specialists that backed up our side. It didn't take long for them to back down after that. I think making it obvious that you mean business will change their approach many times. Good luck!
  7. I think it's great your daughters still play with their dolls! I would much rather have them spending their time doing that than chasing boys are trying to be like Britney Spears!
  8. I'm not sure if you're *supposed to* or not, but it makes me nervous to see it. My husband shoes horses, so he has been around them quite a bit and is very comfortable, and it even scares me to see him do it. Especially the big draft horses, LOL.
  9. My dd, now 7, has always enjoyed playing games on the computer. However, a lot of the sites she has always played on are now beneath her age/maturity level (Nick Jr., PBS kids, Barney.) I need some suggestion for some new (free) sites. I prefer educational, but they don't have to be. Thanks!
  10. We are not doing RS, but have been playing addition war here as well. I have seen a couple of light-bulb moments, and best of all...it is the only math we've done that hasn't resulted in a meltdown!!!!
  11. I can't compare, but tons of love here for RSO Life. I am using it with my 7 yr old dd, and she loves the hands-on experiments. We do add extra library books on the topic as we have time to, but I would consider it to be complete without adding those in.
  12. haha, I posted on the orignal thread, but had been thinking about this lately too. Hopefully the OP updates : )
  13. Sorry you are feeling that way, but I am having one of those nights too. No one really "gets" me or really knows me....and tonight, that stinks : ( Hope things are looking up soon (for both of us!) Dawn
  14. Check out www.letsplaymath.net and www.livingmath.net for some great ideas!
  15. It's a relatively low dose, and the adrenal suppresion is really only a risk if you are taking it for a prolonged amount of time at high dosages. I would continue to take the medication, and just follow-up with your primary dr who is aware of the adrenal issues on Monday to see what their thoughts are. Unfortunately, if inhalers or nebulizers will not correct your breathing, the only other option to reduce inflamation is the Prednisone. It's a crappy drug, but it does do many great things too!
  16. It is probably varies from region to region, but in the healthcare system I work for, your primary physician can enter a referral for you. Part of the referral is a statement of what timeframe you need to be seen in. So if your primary physician determines that this is serious and you need to be seen in 1-2 days, then that is what happens. Specialists typically hold spots in their schedules for these scenarios. So, it would be good to ask your physican to enter a referral. Also, sometimes if someone from the clinic calls to schedule your appointment for you, it helps.
  17. Not sure if this meets your definition, but we will be supplementing MM with Miquon. After reading Liping Ma's book, and pouring through tons of math discussions here, I feel they will greatly complement eachother.
  18. I did not learn it in school, but did start thinking that way in college. I had an instructor who, looking back, did teach "conceptual math." It was a class for medical dosages, for my nursing degree...but I consider myself to be much stronger in math all around due to the experience in that class.
  19. Guest Hollow has a great, free science curriculum that focuses on the human body. We purchased a few of the spine books, but I found these cheaply on ebay or Amazon.
  20. I wish LOF would do some books for the younger ones!!! Like addition...Math is like pulling teeth around here!
