  1. Dh and I have a little...well BIG...disagreement. I have been growing increasingly frustrated by the fact that I can be in the middle of a conversation with him, and his phone rings, and he answers it and starts a conversation up with the person on the other end of the line. I could see it if it is business, but it's not...it's friends, it's family. He insists that my feelings should not be hurt, and that I can choose to continue the conversation with him after he hangs up. However, he does not initiate this...when he is finally done on the phone, he doesn't turn to me and say "what were you saying?" I feel like it is another way he shows me that I have no priority in his life. He tells me he is not wrong, and he would make the same decision again to answer his phone. Today, it was his brother, looking for his help. I am very hurt...he has time to help someone else, but not even time to finish a conversation with his wife. What is wrong with finishing the conversation and then calling the other person back? Am I wrong for feeling hurt and of very little importance? Do you have rules about phone etiquette in your relationship?
  2. Hard To Believe, by John Piper I have been in much the same place as you. Everything is so "surfacey" in much the Evangelical world. My dh and I have been disqusted with the "seeker-friendly" churches who seem more concerned about appealing to the "world" rather than telling the truth about God. By nothing but absolute providence, we have found a wonderful church that seems to be meeting our needs. I am growing, for the first time in a looong time. I am asking the difficult questions, and feeling prepared to find answers to them.
  3. Are there any other suggestions for must-reads if one is interested in providing a good conceptual math education for their child? Especially for the younger years? Thanks!
  4. I'm in! I paged through it when I had it on loan from the library...it would help me to have people to discuss it with as I go along. I am not super-mathy, but my dd LOVES math, so I better get smart about it!
  5. Hopefully I can get some advice on this "issue" I have come across : ) I sold some curriculum, and was paid for through Paypal. I shipped through Paypal, so it generated a label with the address that the buyer has associated with their Paypal account. Package was returned to me as undeliverable. Turns out the buyer has the incorrect zip code listed in Paypal. So I am assumming the label I already paid for is now void, and will not be refunded since they attempted delivery and returned to me? Meaning I must now pay again for postage to re-ship? But this should be the buyers responsibility since they had the incorrect info listed in Paypal, right? Thanks!
  6. It is very sad :crying: I just find it unfortunate that much of the last part of her life had to be marked by her selfish husband and the hurt she must have suffered because of that.
  7. I knew this little "issue" would bite me in the butt someday! I am filling out a life insurance application, and it asks if I have been treated for a "mental disorder"....well, I have anxiety and have been on a medication for such for a couple of years. So...do I say I have been treated for a mental "disorder"? I always think of actual mental disorders as being schizophrenia, bipolar...you know the bigger stuff.... Thanks! Dawn
  8. Last week when I was at our local Post Office I saw a box for this purpose...I had never seen this before, so maybe it was just local, or perhaps a new service.
  9. I think you could if you wanted to....but I also think it would be neutral as well. I love it!
  10. Both the literal and figurative SNOT here today! The fact that I have PMS isn't helping things either....
  11. We did get a similiar note, providing other options, of which I will have to choose one. We are new to the area, and with her being homeschooled, she simply doesn't have any friends to bring. Her friends already go to AWANA. She has a cousin who would be happy to go, but she lives too far away. I guess I wasn't aware that they couldn't move on if this wasn't fulfilled...I am all about evangelism, but I certainly wouldn't put that expectation on my 1st grader!!!
  12. Totally asking the same question here!!! We are not that far into AAS 1, and I am just not feeling it...I feel like we are learning "the method" rather than learning spelling, LOL !!!!! I actually just sold it and am planning on going to R&S Spelling by Sound and Structure...and hoping I am not permanently damaging my child!
  13. I know, isn't it crazy? My dd ASKS to do math FIRST, and is upset when we have to stop for the day and move on to another subject.
  14. I just started Miquon with dd, but we have been using Math Mammoth. I pretty much do them seperately, and do not worry about coordination. For us, Miquon is solidifying basics and working on a deeper understanding of concepts, so no reason to not move ahead.
  15. I picked up Writing With Ease and the workbook #1 to go along with it!!!
  16. Panida Press R.E.A.L science...we love it! I'd say it's complete, has lots of expiriments. We add additional reading from the library, but it's not necessary.
  17. Oh, yes I forgot to add this: he seems to promise to dd when he has the afternoons off that he will take her to the park, she can run an errand here or there with him....um, hello! This is real school we are doing here! And the new problem since we moved closer to the IL's is my FIL "stopping in" to see us! That is going to be coming up as something dh needs to put the kabosh on...they don't "stop in" to see the other grandkids at school, LOL!
  18. My dh expresses his thanks for what I do, and has said "I know it is more than just a couple hours a day", but I don't think he GETS it, no. I am just like you...we use curriculums that should be open and go, but everything gets tweaked around here! And a lot of research goes into making sure that what we are using is "the best." Not to mention trying to get all the housework done, and working anywhere from 15-40 hours a week...yeah.
  19. In addition to Awana, we do Girl Scouts, but I know that in some areas there is an opportunity to do a religious version of Scouts...but I cannot remember the name!
  20. I would opt for the epi-pen. Mild reactions do very much so have the potential to be a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction out of the blue.
  21. I hate to say it, but I am becoming less afraid of it. As much as I never believed it would be, it is becoming an option for me in my life. And what scared me about it was ruining my children by being the one making that choice...but I am realizing that my dh has made many "choices" in this marriage that have put me in this place. I can make it financially if I need to, and if I need to figure out how to homeschool and work full-time, I will do that.
  22. I used to belong to an anxiety forum, and there were discussions aplenty about panic attacks in Wal-Mart!!! How crazy! Ok, so I have dealt with anxiety for the last few years. Your experience sounds quite familiar to me! One thing that I have learned in regards to fear that I will pass out while driving is this: supposedly you cannot pass out from a panic attack. Your blood pressure is actually increasing, which is the opposite of what happens when you would pass out. That is reassuring. But...it stinks. Are you particularily stressed out about anything?
