  1. I will have to implement this, great idea! We just started BFSU this week, and we are LOVING it!
  2. Where is the "cheat sheet" for the timeline entries? I am unsure if I have this...I did buy a used curriculum. I am extremely confused that there seem to be some timeline figures on the grid schedule, some mentioned in the notes for the reading, and some that there are not actual timeline figures for. That's confusing for me : O
  3. I love Sonlight...and am so glad we went with it this year. We are doing Core 1/2 Condensed World History, and also using the Advanced LA for this level. But...I am confused. I feel like I am flipping all over the book, missing when we are supposed to do timeline figures...confused about what exactly we are to do with the maps...help...please! I want this to work... Thanks! Dawn
  4. THis unfortunately is one of the reasons I am unable to commit to RSO...I want to know we don't have to transition to something else.
  5. I really like them. They seemed so purposeful to me. A lot of it covers material that I suppose you could do sans worksheets, but for me it solidified what we were doing.
  6. I work every Thursday 12:30-9:30, every other Friday 4:30-9:30, and every other weekend evenings. We do school 4 days a week, with Thursday being off. This still leaves us 20-some days off to get to our 180 days. We do school year round, and that works out just fine.
  7. It means safety. My dd was born with a serious birth defect, and had she not been in the hospital, without medical intervention being prompt, she would not be here. Too many people assume that things always go right, and while they do the majority of time, what if?
  8. Read up on the patients Bill of Rights. You have your rights to refuse medical treatment. Including your baby going to the nursery. I personally never advocate for homebirths. I had a daughter who was born with a serious birth defect, and had she been born at home, without medical intervention being right there and immediate, she would not be here.
  9. I was trying to figure this out myself! We need it for part of our SL curriculum next year, and there seem to be many different versions with varying numbers of pages...hmmmm:glare:
  10. I guess I should add that my 2 1/2 yr old will be starting Sonlight P3/4 at a slow pace, along with BFIAR ; )
  11. History - Sonlight B/C Intro to World History Language Arts - Sonlight LA 3, supplemented with Rod and Staff English. Math - who knows? Math Mammoth or CLE...maybe both? Spelling - Rod and Staff Sequential Spelling Science - Pandia Press Real Science (Earth Science) SO excited!!!!!
  12. I am pretty sure I got ripped off...this was off ebay, so I believe I can file for item not as described since she did not mention it was a copy or had messed up hole punches all over the place...thanks!
  13. Also just noticed that the hole punches do not line up, and actually are not hole punched on both sides of the page consistently...hmmmm....
  14. So, I bought my first SL IG off of e-bay, which was described as being second-hand. After recieving it today, I am fairly certain it is a copied version, rather than an original version. Any way I can tell? It is on regular lightweight copy grade paper...it is 3-hole punched on both sides of the page to allow for the pages to be flipped either way for the 4 or 5 day schedule. But...some of the holes were punched wrong (halfway off the page...) The "cover" page that states the name/level of the IG (with the blue background - this is 2009 version) is on regular copy paper as well, not thick. The print looks lighter gray at times.... I am wanting to find out from people who have used the IG whether or not I am correct, as I have never held an IG before! Thanks! Dawn
  15. LOL, yep...my dd frequently wants to play "Habitat" with her younger brother. After our slavery unit, she went up to ds and whispered in his ear "Come with me. You want to escape from slavery, don't you?"
  16. We are going through an overview of American History this year with my 1st grader, kind of pulling together our own thing between curriculum booklists and Guesthollow. We are reading a lot of read-alouds, but I'm running into a problem. A lot of the books that look really good are books we will be reading as part of our Sonlight American History in 2-3 years. Should I skip them, since we will do them down the road, or is it typically ok at this age to re-read those books in a few years? Thanks!
  17. Hi there, my father-in-law Ron had triple bypass surgery on his heart this morning and as of this afternoon has developed some serious complications. He is currently back in surgery and back on the heart bypass machine and desperately needs to be surrounded in prayer. Thank you.
  18. I cannot say enough good about RSO! We tried ES, but it just wasn't for us...while I wanted to love it, and see the good in it...it was not as easy to implement for me as RSO. I have also learned I am simply not a fan of using encyclopedias/usborne books for spines. I add library books to RSO, but even that is not necessary...it is heavy on the hands-on, and it's not always a full-blown expiriment. I love the variety!
  19. I am interested in checking this out, and the link to the site works....but it doesn't appear that the text is in English? And I can't see anywhere to change that? Thanks!
  20. Thank you, Susan! You were the one to truly challenge me to provide a top-notch education for my children...I can trace most of my growth to your inspiration. I started out wanting to hs for strictly religious reasons...and I have grown for beyond simply that. I now understand that my highest aspiration is to not just teach my children, but to teach them to think.
  21. I have already done this with CLE math this year, and am now doing it with AAS!
  22. My current obsession is SL. I am thinking we will go with that next year. I love the looks of the LA....I am a writer, and I love creative writing. So I really appreciate their focus on that. However, it sems all I see is complaints on LA. I think I am learning that what "fits" for us may not be what fits for others; but I would appreciate some feedback as to what exactly issues have been. Or better yet, to hear stories that are good!
  23. I'm not having much luck finding a used level 1, so I may have to suck it up and purchase it new : ( Any suggestions on the best price, and possibly free shipping? Thanks! Dawn
  24. So this is how our year has gone. Started out with CLE Math. Used it 1 day. I hated the scripting, so I ditched it and bought Math Mammoth. After about a month, it became obvious dd wasn't getting her math facts down, so I pulled out CLE again. We have stuck with it and love it! Dd is doing great with Math, and begs to do it first everyday. We also started with AAS...after about a week of that, I ditched it and bought R&S Spelling. Now I want AAS back : ( But I sold it, so now I am off top re-buy that. Ugh. Please tell me I am not the only flip-flopper out there! WHY am I doing this????
