  1. I had decided to use SOTW and the AG along with it for our history, after failing with MFW and SL. However, one of my issues with that is the lack of Bible study/mission study along with it. Then I came across Biblioplan. I love the schedule, that it seems to mesh the Bible and history, and the fact that History of US is scheduled during American History to add a little bit more. But...all I intend to use is the Family Guide. Since we will use Victor Journey Through The Bible and the Usborn Internet Linked Encyclopedia, I don't see the necessity of using the Companion from Biblioplan. I also plan to use the SOTW mapwork, questions, and narration selections. So, I guess I am wondering if anyone else uses it this way, or if perhaps it just doesn't sound like it's even worth it for me? Thanks!
  2. Thanks ladies...I am leaning towards WWW as it looks very simple and as though it may not produce the meltdowns writing has here. If I go with Biblioplan for ancient history, there are also writing prompts there. I just question whether or not to have her do IEW through the co-op...but that still results in 1 1/2 hrs a week of homework, and that sounds like too much on top of WWE.
  3. What are you using? How do they mesh? And if you plan to continue on to WWS, do you have any concerns that the method of what you use now may contradict WWS at that point? I am driving myself nuts trying to figure out what to use!
  4. I LOVE both...but could not get to having BFSU get done here. We use RSO, and I use the principles in BFSU to extend/tie together the units.
  5. Are these sufficient for a study of American History, if I add read-alouds and a book basket concept to them? And how long does one CD take to complete? I am wanting to do a one year American History. Thanks!
  6. I'm kind of interested in these. How long does it take to complete one of the units? Would they be enough for a stand-alone program in American History, if you added in extra library books and readers/read-alouds?
  7. It seems we have failed yet another history curriculum, and will probably be switching over to SOTW. However, I would like to get in another year of American History before starting in on that, mainly because of all the wonderful read-alouds we planned on using if we continued into American History with Sonlight next year. The reasons I am NOT wanting to do Sonlight...it just takes too much time here, and seems too choppy switching from one book to another constantly. And honestly, I wouldn't be utilizing half the program so I can't see justifying the price. I love the looks of America The Beautiful by Notrgrass, but thinking it is not really for her age range. I also absolutely love love love the Time Travelers CD's, but it doesn't look like something you can get done in 1 year : ) Can anyone share what they have used?
  8. I think it would work. My dd is 8, very resistant, and difficult to make independant, and I believe it will work out fine for us. I think it is just the gentle approach she needs.
  9. Love RSO here, after trying a few different things, including Elemental. I love the flexibility...we add library books from the book list that is included, and additional ones I find elsewhere. Some are assigned as required reading by me, and others are kept in our "book basket." The expiriments are easy, they work.
  10. I was able to check this out from the library and it looks wonderful! We were looking at doing IEW through the co-op next year because I don't think WWE is "enough" in the way of developing the creative side. But I thought that would be too much together...but adding this to WWE fulfills that need (better than IEW I think) and looks do-able. I am so happy to have found this!
  11. And I really really hope you will see a counselor and get some help...get meds if needed, even for the time being. I played the "I'm so tough I can figure this out, don't need any of that" game for so long, and if I had it to do over again I would have seen a counselor sooner and taken meds sooner. I dropped to 100 lb and at 5'7" that is HORRIBLE : (
  12. Unfortunately, between anxiety/depression and IBS, I have plenty of experience with this. During those times, I leaned heavily on smoothies, drinkable yogurt, those "Naked" Smoothies that had a lot of protein in them, applesauce...jello. Sometimes rice and chicken noodle soup because they are bland and easy on the stomach.
  13. I know we are super blessed here...but I work part-time, and we get our health and dental for $200 a month...no office co-pays and no deductible. I know you said no one will insure you, but it's worth looking into...your premiums may be cheaper in the private market.
  14. Just shove them in a drawer. That's what I do! :tongue_smilie:
  15. So, I love love love that my dd (age 8) loves to read. It's a dream come true! But...she will be reading up to 9 books (all fiction) at a time (this is recreational - outside of the 2 we usually have going with our SL curriculum.) Her "routine" is to read a chapter of one book, a chapter of the next one...then start all over with the next chapter of each book. I think this is too much...she rarely finishes a book. Not to mention many of these are library books that will need to be returned before she finished looping through them. I was a crazy reader as a kid, but I would sit down with a book and finish it in a day, and move on to the next one the next day : ) I should mention...based on what we do in our curriculum, comprehension-wise, she doesn't retain much. What kind of limits would you set in this area? Any?
  16. Totally thinking this exact thing! We did WWE last year and earlier this year, and dropped it. But now I am dissatisfied with SL LA, and am looking for a writing curriculum again:001_huh: and looked at WWS. And I love it! I think we may stay on the SWB track. It's funny how, after a few years, I am going back to the "simple things"...they work! I feel like I try to find something more impressive in some way and it just complicates everything!
  17. what is your professional licensure? Just curious why you have privy to this information....
  18. Not at that level, but we are doing B+C and I'm glad to be reading the books we have read. They have been things she has learned other important things from.
  19. Happy Scientist - that is a dream come true!!!! That would thoroughly complete my BFSU adventure!
  20. Haven't read all the replies so I am sure it has come up already...but you NEED BFSU! It is exactly what you describe your ideal being...
  21. Too strange, I have been wondering exactly the same thing, and was even going to re-read it to figure out what it was I must have missed! It was one of those I finished reading, and wondered WHAT exactly the point of it was..what was that about?
  22. BFSU is awesome! I was so afraid to jump into it, because of the prep...but it really hasn't been much. I utilize some of the lesson plans in the file on the yahoo group for BFSU, and that has helped. I feel much more equipped to teach science since we've been using it : ) We did use Real Science Odyssey, and while it's a good curriculum, and fun, I did find it lacking some information. But I would still highly reccomend it. For me, if I was going to tweak it and add to it, I may as well have just put the extra effort into BFSU.
