  1. This is a load of information. We have so many great minds here. For my oldest daughter, this should be her last year with Right Start. I would want to transition her to Saxon for next September, but will first consider all this information. She has in the past been very math reluctant. I'm not sure I want to put in that position again. However, I did come across an offer in my local homeschool group to borrow some Saxon books for a couple weeks. The best judgment will most likely come after working through a couple "sample" lessons to see if it is a good fit. I do want a program that "gets the job done", but I also want this to be an enriching path, not just *getting through it*. Thanks to everyone for their posts.
  2. Since we're just chatting here. I'm new to the boards and am curious what these titles are above the profile pix and how to edit them..."Queen Bee", "Hive Mind", etc. :confused1: Thanks!
  3. Wow! I just want to thank everyone for their insight. I really appreciate how much information you are able to offer. I suppose that comes with experience! Just to clarify - when you speak of LOF, are you talking about Life of Fred? As I recall from The Well-Trained Mind, Life of Fred is recommended as a supplement to your primary math curriculum. I was actually planning to begin the Life of Fred series on a weekly basis (or more or less as is reasonable) to go along with the Saxon program. I appreciate that Right Start has helped tremendously with my wiggly worms. However, I have noticed that as the children grow older, and more mature, wiggly worm is not as much an issue. They are building their stamina to sit and focus. According to The Well-Trained Mind (TWTM?), Saxon is a very thorough program and will allow for more advanced math courses later in high school if that is what the student (and mother) decides to do. Whereas, I am not really sure Right Start will be able to offer this path. So this is the thinking behind my plan. I really love that there is this community in which to share ideas and opinions.
  4. Hello, I would appreciate any advice I could get regarding this math program. Currently, my kids are in Right Start. However, I don't feel that the upper levels of Right Start will meet our goals in the middle and high school years. My thought was to transition them into Saxon math as they reach middle school, but I have recently been given advice to the contrary. Our ES (charter school teacher) has said that Saxon will be too difficult for the kids if they didn't begin with it in the K-4 years. Does anyone have any additional advice regarding this issue? Is there anyone who has perhaps made a transition into Saxon after using a different program? Many thanks to those who can help!
  5. I have just started using WWE and had planned to move to WWS. However, I have since found out that WWS only covers the first two years of middle school and requires a separate grammar program. Is this a temporary issue; will there be a completion to these products in the near future? More clearly, will WWS continue through middle and high school, and will there be a matching grammar book? I love the products and hope to see them continue. Thanks!
