  1. So the bus route/stop changed because the bridge is out… but the website didn’t update to reflect that. So that’s why I didn’t get the bus.

This. This is why I don’t rely on public transit lol

  2. So this has been a disaster.
Cross referenced the bus info 4 ways and the bus didn't stop there!! In fact we saw that bus number twice but it didn’t stop anywhere close.

My boss is picking us up.

The auto place called & said it WAS a bad battery afterall. And after all their charges they quoted me over $600! I asked to hold off on the air filter (like $50). So that brought it below $600.

I will get my car back today.

  3. My car acted up again today. Long story short it’s at an autoshop and I’ve determined what bus stop & bus number to use with the kids tomorrow to get to work. What we couldn’t determine is accuracy of travel time.

I’ll pack food tonight for all of us to have at work. This has already been quite the expensive week. I owe $200 for the diagnosis and oil change. Then they’ll come back with quote of labor & parts. 2 places have said the battery is fine but not sure about the starter etc since I had issues again.

  4. We rode the streetcar. There was a bit of a mishap (confusion on my end and a driver that misled me) so it took us 2 to get back to my car 🤦🏻‍♀️😆 an adventure… ha

We got beignets and had awful luck finding somewhere to eat lunch when we were on foot so got food later.

I appreciate the public transit options but would not want to have to rely on them. One stop the streetcar had to sit there like 10 min.

I have to bring the kids to work tomorrow because I’ll have no power in my neighborhood for a while when the power company works on something. I hope dd cooperates.

  5. Ds was talking about possibly getting a job by his dad's home and said he still doesn't have his permit. I asked if he thought he was still supposed to get a car and he said no, they don't have any money (big surprise. Dad's a future faker). Basically, if he wants a car he'll need to save up for his own. I told him if he gets a permit I can take him to parking lots to practice.

I'm gonna see if I can figure out the trolley ride thing tomorrow.

  6. Car was ok today and since we met earlier than usual I suggested we eat at a restaurant near the pickup spot I’d always been curious about. It was very good and we had leftovers.

New DVDs at the library so I brought home Migration & Wish for us to watch this week. Ds wants me to catch up on the Walking Dead (I haven’t watched in a long time) so we’re going to watch some together tonight.

  7. I think I’ve had a taste of all the scary things. A bridge went out but my gps directs me another way. My car wouldn’t start last night and I found myself stranded at the laundromat. A coworker met me there and we did a jump since we didn’t know what was wrong. I did contact roadside assistance but I don’t know if they ever came. I missed a call and the number I used was all automated. I took the car to Autozone (yay city hours… they were still open) and they ran a test. Supposedly no signs of issues with battery, starter or alternator. Said it’s like my car sneezed but wasn’t sick.

I did try to see if anything under the hood looked loose but wasn’t able to see anything. I’ll see if I can find a way to get an oil change today.

I hope everything goes smoothly tonight when I get the kids. I forgot that with spring break I get 2 weekends.

  8. My zoom interview went well. There's a chance I could work with a local school doing this 1:4 tutoring program. You go on site to do it and the number of hours could be 6 hours or it could be less depending on their needs. So hypothetically, maybe I could do it the two days I'm off a month and that would be up to 12 hours of supplemental income a month. But I don't know. I'm not even sure how the pay works (if it's contract work where you file your own taxes or what).

Dd is here this weekend. The St. Patrick's Day parade has been rescheduled so we aren't going to do that.

  9. Finally got my discover cc in the mail.

I see no way to benefit from transferring any of the cc debt to my new card. I did all the math and it would be worse.

Currently owing $180/mo ($147 min payment and $33 interest).

If I transferred a relatively manageable amount (to be paid off during the first year) I’d owe a 3% transfer fee ($1000 + $30). Now the cc debt that was $180/mo would drop to ~$136. But I’d owe ~$85/mo on the new card. Monthly I’d owe ($136 + $85) ~$220

Now if the new card has 0% APR for 15 months (can’t remember if it’s 12 or 15) it still isn’t worth the balance transfer. That would lower the monthly payment to ~68. $136+68 = $204/month.

My husband's dad has helped us over the phone many times (retired IRS).

I feel like it shouldn’t have pulled the LA job into the MS section and I just need to remove it but the program is not letting me so I might have to delete the whole MS section and re-enter manually if that’s an option.

  11. I wish my aunt and uncle were visiting sooner. They were CPAs! I don’t know if he could help me over the phone. They are literally visiting on tax day lol

Seems like when I have done my taxes and my son’s taxes after I complete everything for one state it asks me if I need to file for any other states.

Mine had me enter all W2s. Then it did federal then imported them for the state section. I followed all the prompts.

Try the chat option through turbo tax.   I’ve used turbo tax to file taxes with 2 states before so it’s possible.   I did end up messing it up and got a letter from one of them a few months later, but I had answered a question wrong.

I tried but they said if I wanted to upgrade to the right version I’d have to start over??  I could only access a chat bot. It said I could delete that section but it won’t let me.

I’m on deluxe ($59) doesn’t include live chat

  14. Ok this tax thing should be easy, but there's always a hiccup. It imported my W2 info for state and I can't delete the LA listing while I'm filing the MS thing. So then I was like ok maybe I leave it there, but then it asks me what county I lived in while I worked in LA and the drop down menu is MS counties and "non resident" or "out of state." None of that applies to my situation, as I didn't work in LA while living in MS. But I don't see how to delete the blasted listing. If I go to edit, some of it is grayed out and you cannot remove it.

I don't want to have to pay more money to fix this stupid stuff. If I brought my laptop to a free place I don't know if I could show them my issue and ask how to fix it.

Have you looked at the free versions on the IRS website?  I believe TaxAct is the one I have used for ds and he used it again this year.

I think all free versions have stipulations. I was partway through the process before TurboTax said mine didn’t qualify for the free version. And I definitely don’t want to start over 🤣

I logged out and plan to log back in after I get feedback about the stipends

  16. Met one guy Sat night. I kept feeling like he was mansplaining to me. I can’t stand that.

Met goth dj today. He was very pleasant and respectful and well hang out sometime in the future. We had a lot to talk about and when we parted we’d hung out 4 hours! Part of that was at the bookstore and part of that was at a nearby cafe.

  17. I’ve been going through TurboTax… I didn’t qualify for the free version. So I had to upgrade to deluxe ($59). Then I started asking myself if I need to get a form summarizing my stipends I received from the construction program (I got a couple).

So I don’t think I can complete this now. I will call the program office and inquire to see if there’s some form I need to upload to TurboTax.

ugh I hate taxes so much

I knew that it would be too easy of a solution.

Another possibility for working within changing availability would be something with convention/conference centers. Does indeed have a PT option?

It’s really messy. I’m only available a couple days a month and I can’t do jobs where I’m on my feet for hours. So I don’t really fit most job openings. The weeks I don’t have dd I’m off one weekday and Sunday. The weeks I have her, I work M-F and am off Sat/Sun with her. I figure substitute teaching might be my best bet.

I'm sorry that things are still so stressful and tight.

Not sure when you will have kids, but this festival is hiring a variety of temporary workers. If it is doesn't conflict with visitation, it may be a way to pick up some extra money.

You may have addressed this in a different post, but is your job eligible for over time or just extra hours? If so, make sure the schedule makers know you are open to more work. (I know a salaried worker who supplements his income by being available for weekend projects that his company has to take on from time to time for scheduling reasons. I don't know if your job would have something similar when they have folks leave or host special events.

    I will research it. Thanks.
They have strict hours. No one can work extra hours. And if you fall behind on hours you  make them up or use vacation or in my case I’d lose pay because I can’t redeem vacation yet. A training I attended this week ended early so I made up the time by taking a short lunch the next day.

  20. My date didn’t show up tonight. Part of me was relieved. One less person to deal with. He was not a good communicator. Didn’t respond to my texts til I was home, like 30 min later! He only mentioned traffic… never said what time he got off work or anything. And he said he was fine with the meetup time. These guys are idiots. I’m becoming more and more content single lol.

I'm actually most looking forward to my meet up on Sunday which is a potentially good friend/social networking person. We’ve confirmed the time and place. We’ll be wandering around a bookstore.

I’ve shifted my thinking and I can genuinely say I’m in the mindset “do I like them?” not “do they like me?” anymore. Are you worth my time? Do you add to my life or are you going to be a drain.

  21. Car transmission is acting up again. I’m not sure I should drive the round trip to pick up the kids. Might have to ask my dad to bring them for spring break. I also have one other visit with dd before then.

I’m trying my best to see how I can start saving for a car note.

My discover card hasn’t arrived in the mail which is frustrating. I really need it. I just got paid and paid off the AMEX card. Sent ex (late) Feb & March child support. Got gas. Set aside a little for April rent because my next check alone isn’t enough to cover April. Ugh it’s so tight.

  22. I have a zoom interview coming up for a mentor/substitute role. I told them in the cover letter I’ll have limited availability.

Not sure anything will come of it
