  1. I love Lego, but the kits are pricey, so we stick with Snap Circuits and K'Nex for now. :)
  2. It hasn't changed my life much. I use it now and then, when it's easier than hauling a book, but that isn't often. I *do* love having nonfiction and reference books on it, because I can search for a term and bookmark it.
  3. We've watched the first one. DD can't wait until her birthday later this month; we've promised the second one.
  4. I cover music theory using some workbooks that I picked up at our local Mardel. They aren't the best books, but they're functional.
  5. I just posted in RoughCollie's thread, too, but I hope that you are able to find some answers and get to feeling well ASAP! Please let us know. :grouphug:
  6. :grouphug: Hope there's an update soon. My thoughts are with her.
  7. I am stronger than the pain of putting a pet to sleep.
  8. OOOOO have fun at Wicked!! I've never seen it, even though it was in town a year or so ago. I hope you have a blast!! When is your birthday (year not needed :D)? April 17. And you said year not needed, but I'm gonna kinda share, anyway. I turn the big 3-0 this year. How scary is that?? Do you have a puppy/dog? Two, but they aren't puppies. Gizmo the Schipperke is probably about 9, and Speed Bump the Corgi is probably 4 or 5. ;) Has your child ever "shadowed" a friend at their school? Nope. :)
  9. I grew up in SE KS, in a very tiny town. I love that I can go back and still feel as welcomed and at home as I did when I lived there 20 years ago. I love the town spirit. I love that the two-fingered wave while driving is alive and well. :)
  10. I'm using it as a supplement. It does a good job of covering the basics, but like others have said, it doesn't go very deep. I picked up a copy when DS got frustrated with his regular writing program, and we're using it to review and reinforce some concepts, but when it comes to actual writing production, we do separate projects. When he hits fifth grade, I will be switching to WWS (again, with side projects).
  11. Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? I forgot to eat breakfast. So I guess coffee. The kids had pancakes. Lunch will be... oh, crap, I'm out of bread. Lunch will be whatever we can find in the pantry. Dinner is in the crockpot - pot roast. I'll make some rolls to go with it. Are you going anywhere today? Yup, it's Tuesday. We'll see if we make it to swim today; if we don't, we'll be running errands to pick up DS' glasses, HWT, flowers and mulch, and possibly new sheer curtains for various rooms in the house. Oh, and Rustoleum so I can paint the storm shelter. Oh, and I need to go to some stores and pick up boxes so I can start putting stuff in storage. And then DD has her violin lesson. Do you have any food allergies in your family? Sort of. I'm intolerant to chicken.
  12. We've been in our house almost 10 years. The folks from whom we bought the house had been here 28 years, so to this day, we still live in the "Fisher house." I'm sure it'll be the Fisher house long after we're gone (which will hopefully be this summer). We know one set of next-door neighbors by name, but I wouldn't know them if I ran into them at the store. The man on the other side rents, and I don't know him. The people across from us we know a little better but only because we've had run-ins with their ill-behaved dog. The single lady who lives diagonally from us, I've never met. The list could go on. It's a peaceful neighborhood, and everyone minds their own business. I have no doubt that if someone saw a burglary in progress that they'd call the cops for me, and I'd do the same for them, but we don't go over to chat and I don't really know much about them. Which is just fine with me.
  13. Oklahoma fits the bill as far as affordable and great homeschooling laws (none... HSing is protected by the state constitution). As for great places to live... well, there are a few decent places. You just have to find your niche.
  14. I've been intense all my life. I don't let things go well, and I really get into things. My son, on the other hand, is quite sensitive and gets easily upset when I get my verbiage on. I have told him that any time that I'm getting too rough, he has permission to raise his hand (interrupting tends annoy me when I'm in the middle of something) and tell me to "think happy." It's a good reminder, and usually I can step back, take a deep breath, and let things go. I don't have any advice if the kid can't give feedback. I'm not good at recognizing my own intensity, but I remember classmates (usually guys) describing me as "scary" when I was younger, just for that reason.
  15. I had a very busy day and I'm unwinding with NASCAR and a glass of vino.
  16. LOL this is what I think every time I head to the opera, too. I dress for the theater and ask the kids to do so as well, but our opera company had a big push a few years ago that included reminding folks that the point was to COME, not to go out and buy fancy clothes for the occasion. I've seen everything from goth with multi-colored fluorescent hair to black tie. I have NOT seen horrible manners, thankfully. I think that would be different. Then again, like AuntieM said, folks in the Globe theater were incredibly ... um... interactive.
  17. Ahh, so glad to see the lodge today. I'm in need of a break already. So, how is it in your part of the world this morning? It's sunny now, but the clouds to the SW looked ominous earlier and apparently there's a good chance of rain later today, which is frustrating because I had hoped to get outside and paint the back porch. Maybe I'll touch up some of the rooms inside instead. Going anywhere today? Nowhere except taking DD to and picking her up from school. My goal is home improvement. I also need to call our realtor and get her scheduled to come take a look at the house so she can tell us what else needs to be done to it (other than painting, decluttering, and cleaning). Are you taking, or planning on taking a spring break? Yes. We'll have two weeks off here in March when DD's school has their spring break.
  18. We really like FLL, but occasionally I do write some sentences on my own and have DS take them apart. He was having a little bit of a retention problem before we started doing this, but we have no problems now. :) We're on FLL3. Next year DD will do 1 and 2 in a single year (she's learning a few parts of speech at her private school now but won't quite be up to level 2 yet).
  19. The 5-year-old in me is dying. I would SO have to open the lid.
  20. I am both. I have actually had others comment on how much it seems like I am almost two people in one body. I adore being at home and will go weeks without going anywhere, and I will be perfectly content. When I get out with my friends, though, I come home completely relaxed and energized and can conquer the world. I can even meet strangers in those situations and enjoy it. That being said, these extroverted and introverted phases come and go. I can't be both at the same time very well.
  21. Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? Breakfast was Special K bars and bananas for the kids. I had biscotti with my coffee. I feel like crap today, so lunch and dinner will be whatever people can figure out on their own. What are you doing today? This weekend? Today I am doing laundry and taking it easy and being grumpy all at the same time. I will probably be working on home improvement stuff all weekend so we can get this house ready to sell. I am all done with that. I hate doing it. I just want to sell the house as-is at this point :p Do you have any pets? And how. Six cats, two dogs, one gerbil, 10 chickens. And a partridge in a pear tree. (Not really, but in the past we've had fish, a lizard, and a turtle. The kids are begging for something new right now, but I'm saying no until we move. As it is, I'm not sure how one shows a house with this quantity of animals.)
