  1. I hope you're able to find some answers and make the CPAP more comfortable! My DH is a mouth breather and has to use a full face mask as well. He went through several different kinds of masks before he finally found one that he likes and is comfortable. He still swallows some air, though, and has *TMI ALERT* gas every morning when he wakes up. But the difference in his sleep is astonishing. He was a grumpy Gus every morning before, and now he's actually pleasant... AND I can share the bed with him. Good luck!
  2. I love it. I'm sure the teachers/administrators have gotten wind of the plan already; if they were going to nix it, they'd have said something, I'm sure. I hope she has a lot of fun today :)
  3. Your dinner sounds fantastic (I'm also stealing the recipe). And color me shocked that while she expects the world to revolve around HER dinner needs, yours aren't as high on the priority list. I hope she does e-mail you. That would be a riot in and of itself, I'm sure.
  4. Stroganoff works well with fajita meat. That's usually what I use. Or you could make a curry or stir-fry.
  5. I don't remember exactly how many weeks I was, but I was 7 mos. along with DD when DH and I took a weekend getaway trip to San Antonio. The flight crew did not look happy to see me. (To be fair, DD had already dropped and I carry way out in front anyway, so I was GINORMOUS. But I didn't have any problems.)
  6. You can PM me if you want. I'm not in BA specifically, but I live in the Tulsa area. :)
  7. Every other Monday. I have a recurring appointment set on my phone so I don't forget.
  8. We have a shelter buried in our back yard, and I'm considering taking a preemptive trip down there with some of the valuables, just in case. We're technically just outside the 'high' risk area, but still. I hope everyone in KS and NE stay safe tonight; those states are under the gun, too :(
  9. I only tear out worksheets if that is how they are designed to be used. So I tear our our FLL and MUS worksheets but not the pages from HWT or SWO. Once the pages are done, I three-hole punch them if necessary and put them in a binder for that semester. I do this as we need them.
  10. Karma is awesome. After I had DS, I met a woman with a daughter a year younger. She simply COULD NOT understand why I couldn't 'just talk to him' whenever he was in the midst of a meltdown. She just bent down and told her 1-yo what was expected, and it all went swimmingly. We didn't become close until after her son was born. I'll never forget the day she called me in tears out of the blue and said, "My son is doing a crocodile death roll while screaming his lungs out, and I can't make him stop. How do you handle this???" I was very proud of myself that I didn't laugh until I got off the phone. We've been very close friends ever since.
  11. My DS hadn't grown for more than a year, when he was 8/early 9. Within the last month, he's finally had a growth spurt. I hadn't worried too much, though, because he's already humongous. But one of my BILs didn't grow for nearly two years at about this age, and it turned out he had a massive internal Staph infection that was inhibiting growth. He's now the 'short' brother of the four boys in the family. So it might not be a bad thing to get your kiddo checked out.
  12. Happy Wednesday! You're halfway through the week! Is it only Wednesday?? Gosh, this week is moving slowly. Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? Breakfast was blueberry crunch bread for the kids. Lunch will be the tortellini that we didn't eat yesterday because DS discovered the organic frozen burritos in the freezer. Dinner will be toad-in-the-hole, mashed potatoes, and peas. What are you doing today? Today I'm going to steam clean the hall carpet, take the kids to the library, and probably run a couple of errands. I need to take some paperwork to our attorney and call some banks to get quotes on interest rates for homes. Today's burning question: Do you do standardized testing? And if so, when do you do it? And what test do you use? No, our state doesn't require it, so I would have to pay for it. And since DS is in third grade now, I'm not pushing it. We'll see what happens as he gets older - I may decide he needs the experience. He doesn't necessarily test well.
  13. What's on your menu for today? I have no idea what we'll have for dinner tonight. I think we'll have tortellini in marinara sauce for lunch. Or at least DS will... I'm not sure he'll leave me any. I s'pose I should go thaw out some ground turkey so we can have turkey burgers for dinner. Or something. Are you going anywhere today? Yup. Swim and violin. What's the weather like where you live? It was cloudy when I woke up this morning. Right now it's sunny, but we're supposed to get storms off and on all week. I'd rather we didn't, since I really, really need to get the exterior of the house painted. What is your greatest weakness as a home educator? As a parent? I'm stubborn. Too stubborn. And impatient and too quick to anger, despite my efforts to become more patient and to have a longer fuse. What is your greatest strength as a home educator? As a parent? See 'stubborn' above. Sometimes this is a strength, too, because it keeps me going. I'm also extremely good at time management.
  14. This would have been nice to have printed copies of when my kids were little, so I could hand them to strangers who didn't understand my kiddos. Mine were both that way. Though they were higher needs in some areas and lower in others, they both met every single one of those. Crazy. :)
  15. I always have to stop at Windle's Rock Shop when I'm in Bartlesville. I find the neatest stuff there.
  16. My mom was a stay-at-home mom until I turned about 15. She only got a job because she decided she wanted one. My mom's parents were a farming/ranching family; they did pretty well for themselves, so my grandmother did not work other than typical farm wife stuff. They didn't do a lot of canning or gardening and didn't have chickens, so I can't say she really worked. My dad's mom didn't work, either - he did things like owning the local Ford dealership, farming, realty, etc., but she didn't work. She did a lot of volunteer work when the kids got older, but she had 12 kids... raising them WAS work. And my great-grandmothers were farm wives. The end.
  17. My DH works in IT primarily installing VoIP phone systems. He has a GED and a few hours of college credit. (He had to drop out of high school due to health issues when he was a teen.)
  18. Clearly this writer has not been to my house. The coffee table doubles as a craft table, my great-grandmother's wedding china totally fills my china cabinet, and bookshelves lurk in nearly every room in the house. Harrumph.
  19. I was just thinking about this thread today. We're still working in improvements, too. I started painting the kitchen today. We still have to paint the exterior of the house AND make some improvements to the foundation. After that, we have to clean the ever-living daylights out of it and get it properly staged. I really, really, REALLY want to have it on the market by April 20, so we have to get moving. Some days it's really depressing.
  20. You could do an Angry Birds party. Get some boxes or barrels and set them up and paint some balloons with pig faces and let them have at it... you could use the Nerf guns as 'birds.'
