I need to shake up the workout routine...

I like the Beachbody programs I've tried. They just came out with a new one - The Master's Hammer and Chisel - that looks challenging. -

We use CLE, too, and appreciate the spiral approach. In same cases, it's too much review -- but then we just move on. I'd rather have more review built in than too little. -

Reading program for elementary

I use Christian Light Education 4th grade and up. We just read lots of good books and discuss at earlier levels, and the CLE reading 4th grade and above is only a half year course. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk -

Homeschooling in Minnesota (Minneapolis to be specific)
Insertcreativenamehere replied to Xuzi's topic in The Chat Board
We live in the Twin Cities, northern suburbs. We pick and choose what we want to use out of the public school system and our school district has been very accommodating. Our 3rd and 5th graders go to music and PE only at school and are homeschooled for the rest. We just enrolled our kindergartner in 1/2 day kindergarten (full day is the default option) and they were also very accommodating. We also have a 3 yo who gets homebound preschool instruction and speech at home (all through the school district) due to an immune deficiency. Homeschool kids can play ps sports, but there also hs teams in various sports. Some private schools also allow hs'd kids to play sports. Homeschool regulations are pretty easy to follow; test yearly. We do not participate in a co-op, so I can't speak to that. Ditto recommendations for the Science Museum, the Works Museum, MN History Center, Children's Museum, MN Zoo, etc. Our library system is amazing and I can get library books ILL from almost any library in the state at no charge. A few recommendations for more information: http://www.hsadventures.org http://www.homeschoolers.org http://www.mache.org PM me if you need more specific details. :) -
There are already generous samples of most, if not all of her books on the PHP site. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

My kids definitely read more when screens are limited! We allow some screen usage but I'd like to get it down even more. -
Why do you homeschool?
Insertcreativenamehere replied to 4KookieKids's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We started with one of our children because he had issues with anxiety and depression related to his younger sibling's life-threatening illnesses and frequent hospitalizations. The next year, our oldest son asked to be homeschooled, too, and since I was less than impressed with his 3rd grade experience in public school, I was glad to comply. We added a kindergartner this year as well, although she is extremely social and extroverted and is actually going to start half days at our local public school next week. I'm hoping to get the school bug out of her system now rather than later. Her brothers think she's crazy because they've seen what school is like and much prefer homeschool. I'm hoping she doesn't like it and will be happy to stay home. :) -
Only sending one to PS
Insertcreativenamehere replied to meggie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Our first year, we had one at school and one at home. It was fine, but the next year, the one at school asked to be homeschooled. That's been fine, too. I'm currently considering sending my extremely extroverted kindergartner to half-day kindy at our local public school so then I'd have two home and one at school. ;) -
I use Lessontrek (since I got in on the free lifetime membership) and while you can move things around, it does not bump everything like Homeschool Planet does. You have to move everything manually. I only plan a week at a time using it for this reason. When I used Homeschool Planet, I planned a semester at time.

Homeschool Planet does this very well but it's not cheap. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

I'm interested! This would be great for my 5th grader!

We've basically dropped the MFW Rome to Reformation schedule and several of the books; I just didn't like having all of the subjects tied together and scheduled every day. Too many transitions. We prefer to do history and science 2-3 times a week, not every day. I'd already tweaked it by adding in our own science as well as adding SOTW1 in place of some of the MFW books. It makes me feel so free and our days are going so much more smoothly. I love the idea of MFW but I just can't make it work for us. This is the second year that I've tweaked it beyond recognition, so now I know ...
