  1. Thanks for sharing with us. It sounds so lovely. And you'll have to post pix of that scarf when you finish it. What a neat souvenir!
  2. Hooray, Nance! I'm down 11 of the 50 I plan to lose. It's a start! :D (Looks like I've lost the equivalent of an average housecat!) Thanks for the inspiration this morning!
  3. Internet searches say to call the dr if the period lasts more than a week. I keep thinking it will go away. Right? So, 3 weeks later, I call the dr. Nurse calls back and offers meds, which I refuse. My mother passed away 4 years ago from breast cancer. I have a diagnostic mammo recheck in May. I do not want to complicate my life with hormones. According to family history, I'm at menopausal age. The period is light, but constant. I don't feel weak or tired (nurse said I could take extra Fe to prevent anemia if I want. I might.) They could squeeze me in this week, but I don't want to see the dr and have him convince me to take meds or have another hysteroscopy (had one of those previously). I'm not afraid there's something wrong. My cycles have been irregular my whole life. I had breakthrough bleeding whenever I tried BCPs. I think my system just does wacky things. Really, I'm just irritated and wondering just how long this can go on. So . . . is there anything else the dr might do if I go see him? Many thanks.
  4. Collin Annelise And as soon as I click "submit," I'll think of a hundred more. :D I love names!
  5. Dd's surgery was nearly 4 years ago. Last year she frequently complained of back pain. We went back to the surgeon who called for new x-rays. The fusion seems to be just as he'd hoped. He called for physical therapy, which helped to improve it in the short-term. Now, months later, we're in the same place. The physical therapist actually sent us back to the surgeon for a pain/anti-inflammatory injection (just to the side of the top of the fusion/rods). It helped for a few days. Sigh. Now we're back working with the physical therapist. Dd has a few foam rolls for sleeping/sitting and a couple of resistance tubes with stability ball to practice muscle strengthening at home. Is this unusual? If you or a family member has had this surgery, was chronic pain an issue? tia
  6. For the next two weeks, I'm blaming everything on DST. :D So, yes. Yes, you may.
  7. :iagree::iagree::iagree: :lol::lol: I like Philip. Or Simon. Or Paul. Whichever goes with your last name.
  8. I have this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Churchill-Blue-Willow-Teapot-/220967818290?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3372b55432 And dd received this for Christmas: http://www.lenox.com/cat/index.cfm?fuseaction=prod&pid=6355&kf=e1432&pagenum=1 I just bought a Victoria magazine and looked at all the lovely tea sets in this month's issue. My mom collected tea pots. :001_smile:
  9. is that a healthy choice for salad dressings? I'm trying to make better choices one at a time. I'm planning to add a fresh salad to every day. (I know my regular menus are lacking in the vegetable department.) The dressings I like are ranch, Italian, and Caesar, but I wonder if oil and vinegar (like I select at restaurants) might be a better choice. I shopped on that aisle yesterday and was overwhelmed with the selection of vinegar! I wonder if I'm on the right track with oil: extra virgin olive oil? I understand darker greens are supposed to be more nutritious. Like spinach? What else? tia
  10. A certain young person in my house is looking at cell phones. Of two choices, one is in the lead because the screen is "prettier." Yes, really. Even though it's more than twice as much money. Can that screen color/background be changed? We're looking at two different LG phones with the Qwerty (sp?) keys. I don't even know how to check the specs on that since I've never bothered before. tia
  11. ME, TOO! If it's available online, could you post a link? Off to google . . .
  12. Our current house is diagonally placed on a corner lot. We've been doing some landscaping (removing overgrown clutter!) in our yard, and now we're planning. :D On our neighborhood walks, I notice that a few neighbors have a semicircle driveway. When I look at our front yard, I think our yard is just begging for one, too! It could enter on the current driveway side (where it ends at the back corner of the house), but curve across the front and exit on the intersecting street. This would provide greater parking area for our 5 dc when they are drivers and/or returning for visits, as well as parking for friends. We've had a few family and friend gatherings and plan to have many more in the years ahead. Besides the expense :glare:, are there any cons I should consider? We'd need to decide before we select some trees and bushes, which I hope to do in the next year.
  13. Last year I bought a shuffle to accompany me on my C25K training. I LOVE the free podcasts that are available on itunes, and the shuffle seemed perfect. Unfortunately, my legs/hip/back didn't cooperate, so I didn't get very far and didn't really use the shuffle. Now I'm trying again. I've updated my itunes (I think) but I can't figure out how to download ONE podcast instead of the whole set. I tried clicking just one (giving it a check mark), but when I told it to sync, it started loading all 20+ workouts. I'll never find what I'm looking for on the shuffle this way. This can't be this hard. There's something I'm missing, right? tia
  14. I don't know what this means (besides needing to get up from my computer more frequently), but I OFTEN have an extremity go to sleep. I dread it. It HURTS when I move it around to wake it up again. Besides preventing it, is there a gentle way to solve this problem? tia
  15. I agree. They aren't asking you to do something beyond your ability. They're trying to keep your baby and all the other newborns safe. I try to cooperate with the people I've entrusted with our medical care. It's not unreasonable to monitor the whereabouts of newborns. I'd feel unsafe if they didn't.
  16. Same here. And our website is a pain to navigate. It's like you need to know some special language to narrow search fields. I shouldn't complain, though, as they are kind to me even as I write my checks for overdue fines . . . .:tongue_smilie: I have a few books I should round up before bed. :D
  17. :iagree::iagree::iagree: She carries herself like royalty. Elegant and feminine. I like Gwyneth's and Natalie's dresses, but Penelope's gets my vote. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4169381376/nm0004851
  18. With our first home, we offered 13% below asking. They countered with a price closer to our offer than their asking price. :D We saw and made our offer on the first day it was on the market. Obviously, they knew what they needed and were willing to make a quick sale. We had done our homework and knew the comparables. It was a fair price. With our second, the house had been vacant for 8 mos. Two previous contracts had fallen through. The price had been lowered twice. We STILL offered less (wanted to get into a desired neighborhood but didn't want to break our budget). We haggled back and forth for a few days and met halfway. :D When we sold our first house, someone offered us a low price after the first open house. We rejected it outright. 2 weeks later, they offered 95% of our asking in CASH. We didn't have to wait for their financing and could close immediately. Do your homework. Check the comparables. Offer what you can afford. You have nothing to lose, right? Good luck!
  19. We had a loving springer spaniel for 15 years. Chaucer. (Yes, I was an English major. :D) I sure miss Chaucer. Congratulations on the soon arrival. :D
  20. :grouphug: to you, Julie. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, and I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I, too, consider you an online friend and appreciate your thoughtful responses so often. You are a dear. I asked my dh, a counselor, how to respond. He typed this: Good news Julie! This is very doable! Just the fact that you are able to articulate your thoughts and feelings in a very clear, logical, and intelligent way is a good sign. I think that it would be a good idea to seek professional help. Everyone needs help from time to time. Do not ever feel that you are alone. You are not. Find a close friend in your town and share with them your desire for help. You need to find someone you truly trust. Allow them to be your advocate. Have this individual make the phone calls and appointments for you and take you to your appointments. You are also correct when you said that God does not make mistakes. God loves you so much. Allow God to work in you at this time. This journey could yield valuable fruit down the road. This might not be an easy journey you find yourself in, but don't ever despair. You will find yourself blooming like a beautiful flower that you are. Though it be difficult, find ways to enjoy the journey. I'll remember you in my prayers. I hope you will find someone who can offer some tangible help SOON. You deserve to feel better! Keep us updated on your progress. :grouphug:
  21. Oh, my! He IS adorable! I couldn't have resisted, either. :D
  22. That was another thought of mine. It could be possible in early spring -- the next month or so -- but our heat is oppressive and our friend's mother cannot tolerate it. Air conditioning may be the reason he was considering a treadmill. I may ask him about that, for now. I wonder if an exercise bike or elliptical might be less risky for her than a treadmill. At their house, I mean. I don't have much experience on those since the ones at the gym bothered my knee. I don't think his mother has mobility issues. I haven't seen evidence of her dementia, but I know he doesn't like to leave her alone.
  23. Just wanted to clarify -- he isn't shirking his responsibility. His mother lives with him full-time. He has to work (most days from home, but still on the clock). He's coordinating her daily care/medical appts/therapy/activities in addition to rearing his ds. He is a single father whose ex lives out of state. He isn't shirking. He's trying to find ways to help his mom while he still holds down his job.
