  1. Way back before cell phones my grandma failed to pick my brother up from preschool. Her mom died that day and she just forgot about everything else once she got that call. His preschool teacher hung out with him until someone finally got ahold of her a couple hours later. She still feel bad about forgetting him. I thought you were going to tell us about a child left at your house for similar reasons.
  2. My kids really enjoyed SSL 1, I found the DVD helpful, I don't feel like the Monkey Match cards are worth it for the price. We haven't done 2 yet.
  3. I bought a pair of Merrell sandals that have a closed toe and a pair of leather Tevas (a little dressier than normal Tevas) that I walked in several miles a day while in DC. They were both very comfortable. I bought one on Zappos and the other through Sierra Trading Post. Eta: Tevas were Cabrillo style but they have others. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/teva-cabrillo-crossover-sandals-leather-for-women~p~9105p/?filterString=s~teva-sandals-women%2F&colorFamily=04&merch=prod-rec-prod-prod9105P The Merrells were the Azura Wrap: http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/MRW727/womens-merrell-azura-wrap/
  4. I'm sorry too! Even if your child's name wasn't published, I imagine you feel pretty violated right now. I hope the problem has been resolved by now.
  5. If you talked to a board member, they will contact IT, the superintendent, the principal or someone. I'd imagine at least one board member will recognize the gravity of the situation.
  6. I agree. Most likely the person answering the phone didn't realize the seriousness of the issue.
  7. That's not something that should wait until Monday to be handled. Especially if a child's name is published.
  8. I can definitely see it as a fun hobby. Tell us if they actually end up doing it.
  9. Oh the Solar Eclipse guy was so passionate. I loved his enthusiasm although I'm not sure I'll drive 4 hours to witness the eclipse.
  10. Are you talking about online? You can get a free two week trial. I did the Old Testament last night, it took me about 20 minutes. My 6 year old tried a New Testament lesson today, it felt like it took an hour. I wasn't paying attention to the time so I'm not sure how long it actually took but she is a beginning reader so she needed quite a lot of help.
  11. I'm not aware of a forum but there is a podcast, "The Wired Homeschool". They may have a blog that could point you in the right direction.
  12. Which app do you use? I can't find this on Stitcher.
  13. Have you read "For the Children's Sake"? I'm just now reading it and really enjoying it.
  14. My kids listen to Klove in their rooms. I'm not sure if they like it or if that's just the channel they can get. They listen to the Classics for Kids program on Fridays, they all really love classical music. My daughter's favorite song is Fight Song by Rachel Platten. We can play Pandora on our tv. Sometimes they listen to worship music, sometimes my Adele station, sometimes classical guitar. They have a Disney station and a toddler radio too (I thumbs down the songs I find annoying). I like country but I don't play it for my kids.
  15. For what it's worth the most talented musician I know personally just signed a record deal. She is 19 years old and didn't start guitar lessons until she was 12. She was determined and loved it at 12. Her mom said she wouldn't have loved it she had started at 5 or 6. PS I'm jealous your kids can do skating or gymnastics for under $100 per month. Those are pretty expensive sports in my area.
  16. I saw a booth for racing pigeons at my last hs conference. You have to wonder if the non related booths get enough customers to make it worth their time to attend.
  17. I grew up in a conservative but not fundamental church. My dad didn't like dances at all and my mom "snuck" me to one in middle school. He must have later changed his mind because after that I was allowed to go to any dance I wanted to attend. I was (am) much too shy to dance in public though.
  18. My friend did this recently. They took 4 hungry kids with them, they did not get a high pressure sales pitch.
  19. I wouldn't take my child in unless they also had a severe cough preventing sleep or a fever. My pediatrician always says it takes 10-14 days for a cold to pass and kids get 6-10 colds per year. So far my kids don't get quite that many colds but they always last two weeks. If my husband were insisting that I take my child to the doctor and I didn't feel it was necessary, I would compromise. Either call the nurse and ask her opinion or agree to wait a set number of days (1-3) then take the child in. I would hate to be overruled if I felt strongly about taking my kid to the doctor.
  20. When my great grandmother passed away, my great aunt gave me several pictures. I really appreciated it. I didn't really know what to do with the wedding pictures from my parents (they divorced when I was 7), but each of my siblings enjoyed looking at them.
  21. Maybe try searching for boot cut? I know Danskin makes them but I don't know what they are called.
  22. Good tip on the free shipping. My code doesn't expire for a year, but I'm worried if I hang onto it too long I'll forget. I could make a note in July though. I've haven't planned next year at all so I have plenty of time.
