  1. Wait, you mean without a bra?
  2. It was the style in the late 80s or early 90s and seems to be back.
  3. Very true! Dayton is just across the river from Liberty, as of yesterday they had just shy of 40" of rain from Harvey. For comparison my state averages 45" of rainfall per year.
  4. I agree it was way out of line. I never did get a clear story on why it was so expensive other than they had hired a tour company.
  5. . I'm not sure that's quite right, Liberty is pretty rural. I think I remember it being about 45 minutes to the outskirts of Houston from there.
  6. I know! It was just over a week and they were planning to take busses. When I was asked to make a donation I declined. I just couldn't support spending that much on a trip when most of the site seeing was free. I strongly suggested the parents request the teacher find a different tour operator. I figured out what it would cost for my brother and his family to fly to D.C., stay in a nice hotel, and see everything my nephew would have seen on his trip. It was less than that for their family of 5. My brother did not appreciate me pointing that out and said part of it was the experience of going on vacation with friends. I don't think 8th graders need vacations with friends.
  7. Thanks! I was actually wondering how likely my house is to end up flooded someday.
  8. My nephew's trip to D.C. was almost $5000, it was optional. When I suggested to my brother that they instead spend less and take the entire family it was not taken well.
  9. Continuing to pray for that area. I'm thankful that despite the circumstances, people are making the best of it. It sounds like people are in good spirits!
  10. I don't know that your family memeber is necessarily typical. We tend to hear about the stupid things people do and not about the prepared people. I have a lot of family in that area, 7 different households. They all have plenty of supplies and food to last over a week.
  11. Aggie- my heart is breaking for the Texans. I talked to my grandparents today, they really think they will be fine from the flooding, all the roads out of town are closed so I sure hope they are right. The church my uncle used to pastor is currently waist deep in water. My cousin lives a few blocks away, they are heading north hoping to escape the water. The water was up to their house but not in it yet, the additional 10" expected tomorrow are what have them especially concerned. My aunt and uncle south of Houston should be ok assuming the levies don't break.
  12. Unfortunately I think this is common in retail settings. He will have to set firm boundaries with his boss and probably keep reminding them of his limitations. I know he only wants to work 28 hours, you don't have to answer, but is there a specific reason? Does it affect certain benefits, make him too tired, etc? If he's working 37+ hours a week regularly he needs to start asking for benefits like retirement and paid vacation. If they are working him like a full time employee he should receive the benefits of a full time employee.
  13. Does this help? http://m.chron.com/news/houston-weather/article/NOAA-graphs-Harvey-Houston-flood-bayous-12016047.php
  14. My husband travels to Houston regularly, thankfully not this week. My family in that area is all safe, I haven't heard about his coworkers yet. The pictures are awful, there is just no where for the water to go.
  15. 888 garage spaces, I want to see the car collection that was there.
  16. It's just so much! Reading through the comments I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.
  17. If you want people with expertise, I would pay at least $25 per hour. If you are in a high cost of living area, then I would pay more.
  18. My niece loves to ride the ferry to the island and get ice cream.
  19. My kids sleep like this on occasion for no apparent reason. All I can figure is that they were sleep deprived and it finally caught up with them. Hopefully that is all that is going on with Luna.
  20. We were at 95% and chose not to drive closer for totality. My 9 year old was so disappointed. After seeing the pictures from people online I actually think he would have enjoyed it but I'm not telling him. We will be closer to the 2024 eclipse so if the kids are still interested we will make a point to go. We didn't hear crickets or frogs. The birds didn't get quiet and our dog acted completely normal. It also didn't get very dark. The light changed but it just felt like a big cloud was blocking the sun. ETA there was not a noticeable temperature drop either.
