  1. I have made a shower curtain using regular quilting fabric. I think it is ok unless you want it to last more than a few years. They might also be suggesting decorator fabric because it is wider. I just joined two pieces of fabric to create the width I needed using a french seam--there are several tutorials online for french seams--and I reinforced the top hem of the curtain with interfacing and made buttonholes in it for the curtain rings. It lasted quite a long time, and was so easy to wash. Hope this helps. ~Sue
  2. Thanks for the info! I guessed that there were some problems with the text I chose based on the reviews, however, it did have the advantage of having answers in the back which the text we tried to use this year did not! My son is planning to visit Korea with his tae kwon do teachers after he graduates. Sue
  3. Okay--here are some other things I have run across in my research that might be helpful in teaching younger ones especially if you are able to read the Korean yourself. These seem to be more plentiful than the high school stuff I was looking for. http://www.amazon.com/Time-Korean-Book-1-Yoon/dp/1565911881/ref=pd_sim_b_8 http://www.amazon.com/Time-Korean-Book-2-Yoon/dp/156591189X/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b http://www.amazon.com/Step-Korean-Bk/dp/1565911326/ref=pd_sim_b_5 http://www.amazon.com/Step-Korean-Bk/dp/1565911334/ref=pd_sim_b_5 http://www.amazon.com/Yes-You-Can-Speak-Korean/dp/1565912357/ref=pd_sim_b_5 http://www.amazon.com/Yes-You-Can-Speak-Korean/dp/1565912365/ref=pd_sim_b_1 http://www.amazon.com/Tuttle-Korean-Kids-Flash-Cards/dp/0804840091/ref=pd_sim_b_13 http://www.amazon.com/Tuttle-More-Korean-Flash-Cards/dp/0804840105/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b http://www.amazon.com/Milet-Mini-Picture-Dictionary-English-Korean/dp/1840594705/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_c
  4. My youngest son is the one studying Korean--he is 16. I ruled out Rosetta Stone mostly because of price--I wasn't sure if we wouldn't just end up doing Spanish for his high school language as that is where I am most comfortable. Plus, my son is not that interested in studying on the computer which is part of why I added the text and workbooks this year. The Critical Language series computer program is definitely high school level as it was made specifically for schools that couldn't afford to hire a teacher for a language that might only be taken by a few students. The book and workbooks look like high school level also, but I do not have those in my hands yet as I just ordered them this week. I think I would have looked at Rosetta Stone more if a) he was younger, b) he wasn't the last kid I have to teach. :) Sue
  5. We attempted to study Korean last year. I found it very difficult to find materials that wouldn't break the bank, but I did find a few things. :) We will be attempting this again this year. Here are links to what we will be using: http://clp.arizona.edu/cls/ This link gives samples and good info, but I did find it at amazon also. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1929986017/ref=oss_product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/080483976X/ref=oss_product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0804839794/ref=oss_product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/041577487X/ref=oss_product Hope this helps a little. 6. Sorry, I missed that. I should have reread it before I posted. Sue
  7. I ran across this the other day--it looks interesting. http://www.amazon.com/Dare-You-Perennial-Motivational-Classics/dp/1933715820/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276379164&sr=8-1 Sue
  8. Not a text, but we used this photography unit study. http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Photography+Unit+Study/004754/1265121697-760554 and this book as our main text http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Digital-Photography-Lark-Book/dp/1579909477/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265122567&sr=8-1 The unit study was very helpful as it gave me ideas for student assignments. It was more on the art of photography though so it would probably not be helpful if you are looking for something more technical like how to develop film. It also was broken down into daily assignments. Hope this helps a little.
  9. Here's a site you might find interesting. http://www.thepriceofliberty.org/greenslade.htm
  10. We did set up a notebook as suggested. I scheduled it for two days/week (Mondays and Fridays from Aug-April), and I think we did most of the investigations--I don't have the book in front of me just my old schedule so I can't be sure. It looks like I scheduled from 1-2 investigations/day. I think you could easily complete 3-4 investigations in one day depending on the complexity. We used this as a supplement, so they also had other math to complete on those days. Are there two types of investigations--directed and undirected? It seems like we did just the directed investigations, and if I was using it for a high school student I would have made sure that at least one from every set was one of the undirected investigations. My kids really enjoyed this book, and I think it prepared them well for geometry again in high school. Hope this helps a little.
  11. Here's a link to a computer program for learning: Brazilian Portuguese, Cantonese, Chinese, Kazakh, Korean, Kurmanji Kurdish, Turkish, Ukrainian. http://clp.arizona.edu/cls/ "The Critical Languages Program at the University of Arizona has developed a series of multimedia CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs for less commonly taught languages which are the equivalent of a textbook and workbook with audio and video. They can be used either by independent learners or by students in a traditional or self-instructional classroom setting."
  12. You're very welcome. I'm sure someone else on this board recommended it years ago. :) sue
