  1. It seems like the list is of words that people are unsure of how to spell rather than misspelling. It comes from "the most common word preceded in Google searches by the phrase "how to spell." I may have caused the problem in GA. I can never remember which the British spelling and which is the American one ;-)
  2. I went to see Baywatch today. All by myself, as in a 200 person theater all by myself. I like The Rock and was hoping it would be a gem like Central Intelligence. It was not. It has some funny scenes, some self-deprecating humor, and lots of eye candy. It had too much gross humor for me. It might be better if I was a Baywatch fan. Maybe I missed some of the inside jokes. So it might work for you if you were a Baywatch fan or will watch Dwayne Johnson in absolutely anything. Otherwise, if you are craving popcorn and some time alone, it fits the bill. I would say wait for DVD, but then you would have to eat healthy popcorn at home and not get the two hours alone, so I'm not sure what the point would be.
  3. i was going to mention that, but I figured I was probably the only one with that disability.
  4. A bit off topic, but a comment for those that use three ring binders with material they print themselves. You can buy reams of paper with the three holes already punched from most manufacturers. I always printed hand-outs for my students on these in the desperate hope that it would encourage them to use binders ;-) ETA: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/495200/Office-Depot-Brand-Copy-Print-Paper/
  5. 6.3 miles for our zoned high school which is the closest 2.6 miles for our zoned elementary and middle (adjacent). They are also the closest. Neither walk would be very safe, due to curvy two lane roads with no sidewalks, low visibility, and some areas with soft or no shoulders, and a 50 mph speed limit which is regularly ignored. ETA: Reading the replies, I realize why I see so many responses of "They can just walk!" when things like car ownership, tardiness, or other schedule issues are discussed. It would take our kids almost 2 hrs to walk to high school along routes that no one ever walks because it is so dicey.
  6. I finally took ds for OT/PT, when he was 16/17 (because of the SAT essay). It made SUCH a difference to have a professional figure out the problem, prescribe treatment and exercises, and work with him regularly. One of my biggest regrets in homeschooling was that I waited so long and wasted so much time just forcing him to practice or do exercises that didn't help. Years of struggle on my part and she had it figured out and nearly fixed in a couple of months.
  7. If you were given another with the same atoms, you might be able to work it out, since the names are in order. For example, if the table had iodate IO3-, then you could work out that IO- was hypoiodite. Or if you were given bromite BrO2-, then you could see that BrO3- was bromate. But I'm pretty sure that you have to have at least one named polyatomic with the same atoms to work from.
  8. So I have plane tickets, now I just have to figure out where to stay. Any favorite hotels in Newport? Or maybe an AirBnB?
  9. Thank you all! I always find great answers here. I will float the idea of Newport to dh tonight. I don't think we'll have enough time to see Mystic, too, and we did Boston a few years ago. I've never really just grabbed a cheap airfare and gone to a random city before.
  10. He could also e-mail the professor to ask. I would be happy to hear from a student motivated enough to care about getting the book before the first day of class.
  11. ETA: We are back. Update in post #15 Just noticed some cheap(-ish) airfares to Providence and wondered if it might be a cooler short summer getaway for dh and I. It's never been on my radar before, so I don't know what we would see. Questions for those who live there or have visited. 1. What are your favorite things to see there? 2. We love to stay central and walk everywhere (or taxi or Uber). What area would be good to stay? 3. Is it really cooler in summer? (I can see the average temps are better than the ATL, but how does it feel?) 4. Any great restaurants that offer gluten free meals? And I would love any other thoughts!
  12. I'm sure you've tried it, but I have to ask...Have you elevated the head of your bed or tried a giant wedge pillow? It turned out to be a miracle here.
  13. Well, it is for women, but it might be a bit easier for the men.
  14. Nan said most everything that I would. I still help with lots of administrivia. Ds is getting better, but he is very busy with the heavy advanced load at school, so I don't mind helping out. If you are familiar with asynchronous development in gifted kids, I consider this an example...ready for the academics of college, but not quite ready for the bureaucratic details.
  15. I'd recommend Only a Theory by Kenneth Miller, if you are looking for some information for you for the science of evolution. It may be advanced for middle school, though. He co-wrote a Biology text with Levine, that would be a good all-purpose resource. Older versions are available used on amazon very cheap. I enjoyed the film Test of Faith for information on now scientists reconcile religion and science. They seem to have many resources on their website now.
  16. That's great news, Katie. The counseling center at my university provided lots of time management skills in weekly counseling sessions. Many students were there because they were stressed/depressed about the workload. I was in a terrible accident just before my junior year that really messed me up. On top of seeming to lose some of my executive function skills (concussion), I was beginning major classes that I couldn't skate through. I got some CBT but also some real study skills.
  17. Baby Groot is Awesome!!! We enjoyed the movie so much! I'm following this thread for other fun summer movies.
  18. We like the Comfy Cone brand of soft cone. I don't know about waterless shampoo, but I've noticed pet products like wipes and sprays that reduce dander at online at Allergy Control. One of those might help.
  19. Really cool, but I keep looking for Christopher Guest in the video ;-)
  20. If she is doing it for credit, check the college credit. Ds's school gives credit for the science-major chemistry for the AP test but only credit for the survey chemistry for the CLEP test.
  21. Be sure you check out educational discounts for software. Homeschoolers qualify for many with a Letter of Intent or whatever documentation their state or homeschool group uses. I've found it easy to buy from http://www.academicsuperstore.com once you send in the documentation.
  22. Have someone test your cortisol and ACTH levels, just to make sure you don't have a medical condition. I would consider testing thyroid, also. And, in addition to the advice above, consider massage. It has medical benefits, in addition to the chance to fully relax an hour a week. Some chiropractors' offices have someone on staff.
