  1. Let him write stories about things and topics he enjoys. I started a "Stories When I was A Little Boy" that got my girls interested in writing.
  2. My kids have my "non-math" gene. It is a necessary evil in life to them, except one of my boys.
  3. 6-8 hours depending on the day. Mondays were usually difficult so we cut them short. Use a lot of grace in deciding how long to do school each day.
  4. I agree with lots of the above. Be generous. I know lots of people gave us stuff when we were starting out and we couldn't have made it without gifts!
  5. Have her interact by writing a short summary or her thoughts to see how she's processing what she reads.
  6. I know how you feel. I have over $35,000 worth of boks and I'm starting to purge. It's not a good thing when you have more books than most local libraries.
  7. I would always go out with my kids. It's just not safe anymore. We lived on a Bible college campus when our kids were little. And the children lived in a bubble so that when couples would move away, there children kept the same habits of wondering the neighborhood as they had been used to. That's not safe. besides, you probably need to get out for some fresh air as well.
