  2. Thank you! I knew it happened. My sister came home the day before the storm hit and my step mother at the time (not currently) had a strong resemblance to the step mother in Cinderella (at least character wise). She changed when her daughter was born so that storm was the beginning of the end of the marriage to my father and the beginning of the downward spiral my father went in to hit rock bottom of his drug an alcohol addiction. You can see why I would remember that storm so clearly.
  3. Love our Sleep Number bed! We have had it since April 2005. It has moved 3 times and can be packed in our sedan! Nothing I would change about it. I don't adjust it as much as I used to (first few years I was constantly playing with my sleep number). Our remote has lost some of the diodes too. So I am not always sure what number I am on. However no air leaks on either side. I love that I can actually wash it too. After our youngest co slept with us for almost 4 years (yes I spoiled him) I took the top of it to the dry cleaner to see if they could get some stains out. Sadly they couldn't but just try to do that with a normal bed! We have another 6 years roughly of the warranty so I guess I have another 6 years left of our bed. It has been great though. :) Oh and I grew up with water beds. My father used to sell them so I got one as a child. This is FAR more supportive then one of those and they are also FAR warmer! Who remembers laying on one of those without the mattress pad and freezing! ME!! Beth that is an impressive lego set that has taken you this long to take apart! I almost feel like you deserve a reward for doing all that! I was curriculum researching today. I would like to think that this slows down or stops at some point but I feel like I am constantly tweaking! LOL
  4. I have an opposite of this effect. My sister was born right before a HUGE bitterly cold snow storm. VERY unusual for Portland, Oregon area. They were telling people to stay inside and not let children play outside. The whole area was closed for about a week (hey they don't know snow like here in the Northeast!). No one other then my family remembers that storm! I have talked to many people out there (before I moved in 1995, this storm was in 1989) and no one remembers it. If you were in the area my sister was born January 30, 1989 and this storm hit around February 1.
  5. I know there is an accent in that but I am not sure how to do that on my keyboard. I am thinking of having my son use it in the fall for Latin. I never learned it and my DH only had it briefly before he went to public school (was in Catholic school for a bit). I would like him to learn it properly. It costs more then what we pay for his German classes (in person) but I think it might be worth it. Can anyone talk about how they liked it and if they saw the value of it? Would you do it again?
  6. I have a sleep number bed so I can't flip the mattress. There is nothing to flip. clean out my purse/travelers notebook. educate ODS educate YDS. grade papers 30 minutes in the zone 5 minutes in the bathroom 30 minutes me time go and get salad for tonight figure out how to use Berkey water in my water pic and to wash with. This is my abbreviated list. LOL DH and I did figure out what we are doing about dinner. We went back to Emeals (meal planning service). We are going to finish up this week with what we have on hand, then next week start with 4 meals a week (so we will not use 3 meals). I still have Once A Month Meals for a couple more weeks so I am going to print out what I was planning on doing for that and if it looks like we are actually going to get an infant (we have went down that road twice and never got anyone) then we can do that. Infants always make meals challenging. So we have a back up plan. ;) Tomorrow I can still quilt during German time. So I am going to do that. But I am going to go through my yarn and see what I have to make a little girl. I have so many things made (I turned my grief for my daughter into making things) but I could always make something more. Hat or something. I do know I have pink wool.

Friday - Clean out your purse/car and date night! We use each Friday as our De-Clutter your Purse and Car day. This only takes a few minutes and saves us lots of time later. Without the candy wrappers, old receipts, and other trash in your purse, finding your car keys becomes a breeze! Removing all the clutter and trash from your car ensures that you won’t be hit by any UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) in the event of a crash. Set aside a few minutes just for these two tasks each Friday. Here’s a list of things to toss: Old gum and candy wrappers Soda bottles Scraps of paper/old receipts Drive thru bags and cups Jackets/coats/shoes Set your timer and get to it. Friday is also Date Night. Relationships have to be nurtured. If not, you are going to wake up one day when the children are grown and not know the person you chose to spend your life with. It is up to us to make sure we grow together! Now don’t think I am going to leave out you single people! We all have relationships! Some are marital and others are friendship. As for those friendships that you have let fall by the wayside because your home was too messy for people to come over, it is time to pick up the phone and just say hi! Relationships are not just inanimate objects; they are made of people with feelings. When we open up our hearts and let someone else in, we become better people! We can’t just ignore the relationship and expect it to stay the same. People need attention! You need attention! If you give it, it will come back to you! I promise. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today is the day to remake your bed. This may take a little longer than usual but so well worth it. Strip your bed and remake it. Get someone to help you flip the mattress, if you can't then try just to turn it around. If you have some fabric spray spritz your linens orif you have had any colds or flu's in the house lately consider spraying your mattress and pillows with an anti-bacterial spray. Then place those crisp freshly washed sheets and blanket on. Take extra are when making the bed. Really tuck those corners in and fluff the pillows. An extra tip is to toss your pillow in the dryer with a dryer sheet for added freshness and fluff. Use your bedspread or comforter and make up the rest of the bed. Take your time and know how much you will enjoy getting into your bed tonight and how wonderful it will feel. Maybe tonight you will go to bed a little earlier or stay in bed a little longer tomorrow morning just taking some time to enjoy something so simple yet rewarding. Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to play Hide and Seek! We are going to seek out all the stuff that is hiding underneath our beds! Set a timer for 15 minutes and get to it. Pull one thing out at a time, if you love it and need it, put it away where it belongs. If you don't love or need it put it in a give away bag. If it is trash, put it in the trash can! You do not have do all of it today! Just for 15 minutes! If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  8. Oh it is so frustrating when dishes don't line up right and you have either half full dishwasher or too many dishes! I hope it wasn't too bad Beth! Happy Girl that isn't good at all! I hope it was just a 24 hour thing. Good luck for tomorrow! I crochet. I guess I could work on something for that. Maybe something wool for a baby. Hmm... I will have to look in my stash and see what I could do. I can't believe tomorrow is Friday. This week flew by! DH will be working from home tomorrow so that will make me feel like I need to do more. This week that seems like a great thing that I need.
  9. Hubby said the more fish the better. It was a text message so it is hard to say exactly what he wants. Right now though we have a pizza night every Friday. We can have something else one other time a week something special. You have fish twice a week, left over night, and he said something about salad (meal salad) that leaves just one night a week that we would use our frozen once a month meals. We typically make 30 meals right now and freeze them. They have been lasting us about 2 months but 30 meals would last a over half the year if we added fish to the mix! I don't typically go to the store once a week right now so I am not sure how this would work. We used to do Emeals to meal plan. However a full week of that was too much for our family. So maybe I need to do Emeals with 4 out of the 7 meals planned. That might work. I could also use that "order online and pick up at store" service at our grocery store. That might work. Hmmm... Maybe I could download some movies. I think they do that on Amazon right? Lesson planning would be hard as it is all online and I just copy worksheets. Thank you that gives me some ideas.
  10. Ugg! DH just texted me saying he wants to eat more fish. We have been doing once a month meals. You can't do that with fish! Now I feel I need to change everything about our meal planning and go to a Mediterranean diet. We ate like that for a while. We did well on it. I would have done anything to get pregnant and that is what was required. But we stopped for some reason or another (probably me getting pregnant and having to eat everything I could). We can't be completely Mediterranean as our youngest loves pizza night every Friday. Hmm... I guess I need to figure this out. Not what I was planning to do today but we are about to do another round of once a month meals so it is best to find out now rather then after I went shopping for that!
  11. I was in the French Quarter in July when I was 16 (I am 41 so take it for what it is worth). IMHO If you don't want to see that stuff, pick another destination. I love Louisiana. I have family there. But New Orleans isn't a place I would ever take my child to.
  12. Yes! Thank you! I was going through my old computer to see if I may have downloaded it but I couldn't find it. Thank you again!
  13. Does anyone happen to have this PDF still? It used to be available on their website and now it isn't there anymore. I didn't think to download it. :( Does anyone happen to have it that they can send me? My son loves putting stickers on his Pre-reading chart and I would like to continue that when we start level 1 (which I did with his older brother) in a few weeks. Thank you for the help!
  14. I am here. It is sunny today so I want to go and get my street gutter clean but it is 27 degrees out so I doubt I could do that. :( Should have done it earlier in the week. I am out of water restrictions YAY!!! So maybe now my toilets can stop looking dirty. Today I need to focus on the bedroom. My constant battle with keeping the crib clean (horizontal surface no baby in the house yet) and we have a table that hasn't been folded down in about a month. I would also like to make some divinity since it is so cold out. I can't eat peanuts and so I never have candy bars really. Everything has peanuts in it. I would like to say I could make a big batch of it and freeze part of it, but I know that would be a lie. So I will say I will make some now and then try to make another batch before this one is completely out so I can freeze that. Come the summer I will not be able to make any (too humid here) so I want to have a sweet every now and then that isn't just caramel or chocolate bar. Laundry today is just DH's stuff so it should be easy. Need to get YDS educated. Would like to take the stuff to the vets today but I am not sure I want to make a special trip there. I might see if the kids need a walk later and do that though. I need ideas of something I can do that isn't reading when my kids are in German. I have access to electricity so I normally sew, (no internet) but in a couple weeks I will not be able to do that due to a Fasching celebration and a book sale (different days). DH can't even entertain me as he has his youth leadership thing for another month and a half. Right now I am praying for a placement (which seems wrong on so many levels) but that isn't a sure thing either. So what would you do to entertain yourself for about 2 hours that isn't reading?

Thursday - Errand Day! Thursday at FlyLady is Errand Day. We use this day to get out and run whatever errands we need to do for the week. Make a list of wherever you need to go and whatever you need to do during the day today and then get to it. This can include: Grocery shopping Doctor appointments Dentist appointments School shopping Dropping the clothes off at the cleaner And tons of other things. If it needs to be done outside the house, today is the day to do it. Make a list of these things and check them off as you do them. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Yesterday we worked on the nightstands and today we are going after the dressers. Get rid of anything that is not necessary. Instead of a pile up of cosmetics, place them in a ziplock bag and then store them in a drawer when not in use. For perfumes and colognes, toss what you no longer use and place you favorites on a pretty tray, plate or mirror. Keep this space neat and clutter free, you will love to wake up to the flat surfaces in your bedroom decluttered. Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to declutter the tops of our dressers. You know how we can just pile things on our dressers and they start to get cluttered and messy? Today we are going to fix that! Let's set a timer for 10 minutes and see what we can get done! If you have things that need to be put away, put them away, if you have things that need to be thrown away - throw them away! I bet all of you can do this really fast, I think that all of you will be able to do this in less than 10 minutes! If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  16. Happy Girl you are better then me. I leave emails in the box till I have to get another account. LOL Not sure why, perhaps I should work on that. Glad you had a good day! Beth I am sorry you were in pain today. I have to go drop things off at our thrift store. I finally went through the stack of too small clothing that the last placement came with. I pulled what I would use and I am donating the rest. Quite a bit of stuff really. As for me I got my younger son to take a nice nap today. So strangely I feel like I was productive! I also cleaned out part of my closet. 1 shelf actually but it is a start and Rome wasn't built in a day.
  17. I got married in a Nor'Easter. It snowed 27 inches in Boston that day. I got married across the river in Cambridge though. We had the reception at the same hotel where JFK had announced his candidacy for senate. It was in Harvard Square. Neither of us went to Harvard but we were living there at the time. The reception itself was the nicest I have ever been to. It was a brunch buffet with a table service for the cake (cheesecake that was made at the hotel... we had a cheesecake sent from Juniors in NYC for us to cut). Needless to say between the snow and everything, no one that was at our wedding will ever forget it. My wedding was at 10 am and the whole thing was over by 5... which included the snow ironic enough.
  18. Canine flu is on the rise. Maybe this trend will be curbed by that. My dog isn't going to visit any other dog in the near future because of this.
  19. My mother in law was in it. It seemed her group was full of really old people that had one foot in the grave. It got depressing after a while because she was always going to funerals and she isn't that old! I don't know if that is typical or not though. I personally never really looked into it because I am eligible for Daughters of American Revolution and that seemed better... or maybe I just liked Gilmore Girls.
  20. Yay! The site is back up again! I was worried I would be having to fend for myself today. :crying: Today I want to: wash laundry dry laundry put away laundry educate YDS educate ODS 15 minutes in the zone 15 minutes in the zone (not sure I will need both but it is a good idea anyway) 5 minute hot spot (haven't done this in a few days) figure out OAMM shopping list grade papers 15 minutes copying school pages 30 minutes ME time Lunch Snack start dinner That is all for now.

Day 23 - Set your afternoon routine Day 24 - Swish and swipe - http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-24/ This is a very important part to this method. It is AMAZING how well this works and takes no more than 5 minutes, most to of the time for me total for the 2 bathrooms I have! Just wipe down surfaces with a baby wipe, swish the toilet with a toilet brush. I have hard water that has brown deposits in my toilet bowl and slowly those are coming up. So it is GREAT! Morning Routine Get up and make your bed get dressed to lace-up shoes, hair, and face Swish and swipe the bathroom Read your FlyLady emails Recognize the negative voices and change them Put out your Hot Spots for two minutes Five-minute Room Rescue (pick a room). Consider yourself tucked in! Note: I have noticed that it is easier for me to swish and swipe at the end of the day. Put kids to bed, while DH reads a story, I swish and swipe their bathroom. Then I do our bathroom as part of my normal teeth brushing routine at night. Need more inspiration? Wednesday - Anti-procrastination Day! Each and every Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day for FlyLady. This is a day that we take care of things we’ve been putting off. You can use this day to take care of any procrastinating you’ve done. You can do things like: Make doctors appointments Finish that report for work Work on a project with your child Clean the fish tank You can do whatever you need to take care. This is the day to stop putting things off. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): It is anti-procrastination day and we are going to clean off the nightstands! Get the tissues, cups and stuff that has piled up, toss and put away. The grab a feather duster or dust rag and dust the surface. Place a pretty candle or picture there. Something that is new to that spot that you love to see. Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to go into our rooms and pick up any clothes we have laying around on the floor, our desks, dressers or chairs. If they are clean - put them away, if they are dirty put them in the dirty clothes basket or hamper. If there are too many to take care of all of them in 15 minutes, you can do this tomorrow too as a bonus challenge! If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  22. It is not completely impossible to do this with small children... I say as I have yet to get an infant placement... who knows what will happen then. I think you just have to plan a bit better. Happy Girl - Welcome! Do whatever you need to. My sons have a reward system where if they do their chores for 10 days they get a special date with a parent. Perhaps you can do something like that, though if 5 days makes it easier for you then I would do that. Also don't feel like you need to wake at a certain time to make this work. I am not about to get up at 6 am like my DH. Yeah that is really not happening. Do what you feel you need to. I would focus on consistency and small steps. --- I did lesson planning and realized I need more lessons. Doh! I guess a Rainbow Resource order is in my future. At least it will not be $400 or something.
  23. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. I would meet your child wherever they are. I had triplets that were born alive and later died (other end of the spectrum but still a death). This happened before my living children were born. My children have grown up knowing that they have 3 siblings that they can't ever see (we have photos and video but that is it). My 4 year old is dealing with this grief now. He keeps thinking that we are going to go and get Emily (his sister). He knows she died but he isn't quite sure what that means. It has been months like this. My older son never went through any of this. Something tells me it will hit him one day, but I am not sure when that is. My point is I would tell your children that their grandfather will not be around much longer and what that means, but keep it simple depending on your child's age. It may very well be something that you have to come back to several times both before your FIL dies and after. Grief definitely happens in waves so there is no reason to believe children don't experience it like that as well. Don't be afraid to talk about your FIL and make sure your children know that too. Sometimes claming up happens and I think that is the worst. Then again that is just based on my experience. Good luck!
  24. I would love to but I don't have high hopes having already had cancer. Nothing was removed but something tells me we know more then we did. My grandmother is pushing 90 and so active I can't ever find her. So who knows.
