Each and every Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day for FlyLady. This is a day that we take care of things we’ve been putting off. You can use this day to take care of any procrastinating you’ve done. You can do things like: Make doctors appointments Finish that report for work Work on a project with your child Clean the fish tank You can do whatever you need to take care. This is the day to stop putting things off. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today is the last day of the Living Room Zone. Your mission for today is to place something pretty in the room that is just for you. I am thinking of some lovely flowers that you can purchase for just a few dollars. Maybe you have a lovely arrangement or plant somewhere in your home that would be just perfect in your freshly decluttered living room! Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today it is time to dust! Go ask a parent for a feather duster or whatever they like you to use to dust with and dust your dresser, nightstands and desks. Dusting is a lot like petting a cat or dog. You just pet the furniture with a feather duster or dust rag. Move from side to side and from front to back. If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  3. Been there done that. If you are able to do ANY progress you deserve a big :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: . I hope your family is back to normal soon! I am considering myself doing okay today. My youngest fell asleep right after dinner last night so no decluttering of the living room was done. I have high hopes for today. In the meanwhile I am trying to do the other things on my list. :)
  4. Anyone else not using a complete program for Kindergarten? My son turns 5 in July. I am slowly rolling out Kindergarten for him. Reading - AAR 1 (currently about 2/3 through AAR pre-reading) Math - MUS Alpha (currently about 1/2 through MUS Primer) Science - Elemental Science Intro to Science (currently doing Evan Moor Everyday Literacy Science) Handwriting/spelling - Spelling You See (will start this next week) Not sure if I will add to this or not. Might want to add a history overview if I can find one or he might just join older brother in modern history.
  5. We have been getting them at the "Minute Clinic" for years now. They are inside CVS and they are anything but a "minute" clinic. However they now have online check in so it is a bit better then when I waited for 3 hours for a flu vaccine for me and my boys (no I am not joking).
  6. I am here I am dragging today. I put some bad cream in my coffee last night and it bit me. :( However I want to do my chores so here I go. Meal planning, lesson planning, activity planning, holiday planning, or anything else. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Let's have a detailed vacuuming session. This means to vacuum the room, making sure to get up against the baseboards and to get under the furniture. Please be careful that you don't hurt yourself trying to move furniture. If it is too difficult to get under the couch or chairs then just try to get as close to the base of the furniture as you can. Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to go into our rooms and gather up things that don't belong. Things like, water bottles, cups, glasses, snack wrappers (you know all those things that you are not supposed to have in there!) Let's set a timer for 5 minutes and get to it. Throw away what needs to be tossed and return the things to the other rooms in the house where they belong. Have you "borrowed" anything like scissors or glue that needs to be returned? Make today a put away kind of day. Ready? Set? GO! If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  10. I have stayed away from that thread. I feel I have everything I need here so I don't want to go an borrow ideas that will just mess me up. Last night, DH said to me that he feels the house is in a good rhythm. Flylady gave me that. My husband works 1.5 hours away. It would be VERY easy for me to have total chaos here. I think it should be noted that Accountable Kids is also helping me with some of this. I feel like the routines that Flylady talks about and puts into you makes it so it isn't overwhelming. I just think that many people think they need to go cold turkey when they implement something new and that really isn't the way it is, especially with this. I have done most of my list today. :D DH said he would help me with the living room tonight for 15 minutes. I really don't think it will be that bad. The anal part of me would like to get the book shelves alphabetized or at least card cataloged. However I am not sure that is in the cards right now.
  11. My older son is 9. He has never taken a standardized test and we live in New Jersey so he doesn't need to take one. However I am thinking this year might be a good year just to see where he is compared to his peers. What test would be a good one for us to use? DH has a PhD so if we need a higher degree to administer it, it isn't a big deal. Also, we school year round, is there a good time to take a test or is anytime as good as any other?
  12. If you found a math your child loves, stick with it. They will get it in the end. I have had Singapore, Shiller, Miquan, and now Math U See. All brooms sweep clean at first but in the day to day of it, Math U See seems to be a great fit for us. Next year, may be a different story but please don't make the decision I did and go 50 rounds trying to find the "perfect" math program. If you or your DH/SO are strong in math, you will see the holes and fix it when they happen. Otherwise a love of math is far more valuable then a few holes. Slow and steady always wins the race. Good luck!
  13. I just discovered that I can't do some of the things on my zone cleaning list without the family being involved. :( I got 15 minutes done. I will have to get the family involved tonight for 15 minutes. The bookcases in the living room have toys and all sorts of things that don't belong. So it is near impossible to dust. There is also a bunch of stuff on the dining table (we eat in the kitchen). The drawers are filled with kid stuff. This all falls under DH's domain. However other then that I am doing good! :)
  14. 15. My mom graduated from University of Phoenix. She is in the position she is now because of that very expensive piece of paper she got from them (her degree). Now she was working at this company before she got her degree, but she still got promoted. It wasn't always easy either. She got her degree about 10 years ago (maybe less) and she was not fun for the several years she was studying. I know it was hard at times for her and she didn't always like her professors. However I see that as being true for any college.

Weekly home blessing is spending 10 minutes doing each of these: Vacuuming Dusting quick mop polish mirrors and door handles purge magazines and catalogs change all sheets empty trash. Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Let's have a Fire Drill! Go get the hotspots cleared off in your Living Room and or Family Room! You know the piles that I am talking about. The ones that just grow and grow!! Put that fire out! Take 10 minutes and put things away where they belong and toss the rest. Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): We are going to do what is called a Hot Spot Fire Drill! This is when we look around our rooms at the flat surfaces of our furniture. The desk, the dresser and the nightstands. These are the places that we will just pile things on instead of throwing them away or putting them away. These are the Hot Spots. To help us clean these places up we are going to do a Fire Drill. We are going to set a timer for 5 minutes and see how much and can throw away and put away off of those Hot Spots. Ready.. set.... GO! If you are new to Flylady, please join at any time. There is no better time then now to learn to keep your house clean the easy way!
  17. It was raining this morning here in New Jersey. We are suppose to get snow on Tuesday and maybe Friday. Friday was weird, it said that it could do nearly anything. So who knows! I want to go grocery shopping that day but we will have to see. I haven't been really good about setting my timer when it comes to hot spots. That is probably why am not great with them. Need to work on that. I did go through one of my email accounts and got rid of all my digital clutter!! YAY! Now I have one more to do but it will be far harder. :( I will get there though! I might need to put a timer on it as I have a bit of time since I hope not to have to lesson plan for a couple of weeks. Right now I have 3 weeks ready.
  18. http://www.flylady.net/i/pdf/packing_coj.pdf This is the only one I know of. I am not sure if it would work for you or not.
  19. Street gutter = The area between the street and the curb. This is more then likely part of the street, but it is the edge of the street. In areas where there are no curb this might be a ditch or something else of the sort. Which would be much more complicated to clean! I insist that this area be as clean as possible. It drives me nuts to see plants (weeds) growing there and garbage stuck there. I just went out and cleaned the leaves from the area so no dirt will form to attract weeds. I have even been known to ask neighbors to move their car (if it is in front of my house) if I think the street cleaner might come in front of my house. My DH thinks I am nuts. It doesn't bother him that much. So is it just me that hates for the street gutter to be dirty or are there others like me out there?
  20. I am focusing on lesson planning today. ODS is getting his grammar but not as well as I would like. I have looked at alternatives and I don't like any of them so I think I need to think of something on my own and see if I could help him a bit, then we can move forward. So far I have spent 2 hours on it and I think I have a plan. Tomorrow is Monday and that means all plans go out the window! LOL We did make it to church today though. One person asked if we went on vacation. I wish! Still need to do blessing hour but feeling very optimistic (Flylady wise) for this week. :D Last week of Baby Steps! I think I am going to just do the normal daily threads after this for a while. If you think of something we should focus on, let me know. :)

  22. If you don't include the deposit (which is silly to do because you don't get it back) the cost is roughly what we are paying for German. I really don't need my son to have any other classes with them other then Latin. It is something we would have issues teaching him (like German). It sounds like it is a good program and people like it. Thanks for the reviews!
  23. Happy Girl - I use paper and pencil so you can do it any which way. :) I haven't been that busy today but tomorrow is blessing hour after 2 weeks so I am REALLY looking forward to that!
  24. I have been blogging for 12 years. If you want to blog, I suggest you use either Wordpress or Blogger and just have it be self hosted. You can blog for free provided you don't want to do anything fancy. That is how I started out. Then I got complicated and now I have it hosted and my own URL. My blog does not make me money though and it is more or less a family blog. My blog www.OurUnplannedLife.com is a Wordpress blog but I started out on Blogger. So depending on how far you take it, you can switch if needed. Good luck! Let us know where you end up having your blog!
